Yep.. Remember the days when we would be on the phone with a friend for an hour or 2 till our parents made us get off? Our kids will not really know that fun but they do the same thing with FT. The only time I see my kids actually use the house phone is to call a friend and tell them to get their Ipads and get on FT.

As for the OP's question, I'm not sure how FT all the time is any different than being on the phone for hours like most teenagers have been since the dawn of the (cheap) telephone. This is my fourth child and I guess the other three just weren't talkers? Growing up we had a large family and weren't allowed to use the phone for hours though I've certainly heard about or am aware many teens do. I think the reason this feels weird to me is the video aspect of it. We use FaceTime to interact with out of town family, etc but we don't tend to walk around the house for hours at a time. I don't make a habit of showering or going to the bathroom while I'm talking to somebody on the phone. FaceTime isn't the same as a phone call. It feels like I have a guest over constantly. Lol I'm not complaining and I really doubt we'll limit him a whole lot, it's just become apparent to me recently and feels weird.

Yes, my kids do it. It's no different than being on the phone while doing those things. The only difference is you can see the person.

Yes. It's already started here today because no school due to massive snowfall. They are so funny on FaceTime--gone are the days where we wouldn't be caught dead in semi public or to others without hair, makeup done; in our Jammie's, in bed or in the bathroom!!!

Is this an apple only thing? I've heard about it but can't imagine wanting to display my face to other people. My voice is good enough. I'd rather talk on the phone or text and it would be very brief! The older I get the less I want to waste time with random meaningless conversations that lasts for hours. I probably would have loved it as a teen! Yes, it's an Apple thing. I'm not a big talk on the phone person either. But personally, I love being able to SEE my sister, my niece and her kids while we're talking. It's almost like having them here with me since they live so far away and we only see each other in person maybe every 1-2 years. I don't think I would care quite so much if they were local and I could jump in the car and run over to their house or they could come here, but I can't do that so FaceTime is what we've got.

It seems reasonable if you consider when you were a kid (or at least when i was a kid) -we would talk on the phone for hours and had those crazy long phone cords before cordless phones were a thing.
Eta: FaceTime is a big thing among college students. I work at a university and you will see students everywhere facetiming - in the union, on the quad, walking to class, in the library... it's totally weird to me that someone would answer a FaceTime call while walking down the sidewalk.

Yes. My 13 year old does it all the time. We have had to set rules against just walking around the house face timing due to her always wanting to come talk while I'm in the bathroom.

Mine FaceTime sometimes. But usually the conversations are short (like 10 minutes or so). They get bored with it rather easily.
