And then I end up throwing away a container full of freezer burned frozen bananas that never get used for anything. Do you freeze them in their skin? I've never noticed a freezer burn issue, and this is what I do. But I don't want to add to a pile-on conversation if you just don't like freezing bananas! I've done it both ways. I tend to forget they're in there for a really long time! Part of me is always tempted to buy one of those YoNanas machines every time we see it at Costco, and then I tell myself, "Naaah. No one would eat that either!" I will say though that whenever I see the 3 lb bags of bananas there, I gratefully think to myself "At least I'm not too old to buy green bananas!"

What a sweet story anxiousmom Melts my heart especially when a curmudgeon/grumpy man knows and does the right thing to care for his girls. sharlag -- I actually feel joy to buy things in bulk and know that I should not ever be caught off guard late at night running out of something essential (regardless of what it is!!)

I gratefully think to myself "At least I'm not too old to buy green bananas!" Ummm... it took me 5 hours to understand this joke.

I only give "thought" to bulk sizing along the lines "will this get used before it expires/goes stale/goes bad". I will buy cough/cold products each fall long before any one hints at a sniffle in this house. Why? Because the stuff expires so lasts year's (or the year before) products may not work as well, but the chances of a cold hitting one or more of us is high. I like having the products in-house so when the inevitable happens, I'm not having to either suffer without or go out to purchase the items when I'm miserable.
The only other "bulk" purchase issue I might consider is storage. How will I store these 50 rolls of paper towels?

Another way to think of it, especially with regards to say Excedrin? What's the cost per tablet vs. buying at your local CVS or Walgreens in a 24 count bottle? You'd be surprised how much difference it could be. Or you might find it's the same or more! That's not as likely but it happens once in a while.
