Ok, so this happened... I watched some more YouTube videos, and switched yarn - the one I bought was just too splitty, but I found this remnant in my stash which was definitely easier to work with. I won't say it clicked exactly but it's no longer an impossible dream lol. It will definitely take me quite a bit more practice to figure out the best way to hold everything, and how to keep my tension even, but I'm pretty happy with that for a couple of hours into my crocheting career! lainey - CocoBella's videos were the ones I found my useful, so thanks for sharing those links!

It's been a while since I've crocheted. Just been busy with other things, I guess. I got a book of Japanese sweater patterns that I was excited about (I've done a few of those before), but once it arrived I guess I wasn't as excited as I thought I was. One of these days.

I have one Japanese pattern book, because I too love pineapples, but I just don't want to put the effort into figuring it all out from the diagrams alone. I am in awe of Helena!

Wow. Very nice I love those colors. I really need to relearn how to crochet. I want a ripple afghan. I knit but it is so slow.
I usually just make scarves but it is too warm most of the time here in so cal. We use a lot of blankets though.

Your afghan is going to be gorgeous when you finish it. Right now, I've got three going. A temperature blanket, a giant granny square, and a ripple. I like having multiple projects going at once because it really cuts down on my getting bored with a particular project. I have seen the Attic24 projects linked here and I admit, I want to start one. But I am trying to finish up my current projects first and use up my stash. We moved this summer and I had four Rubbermaid tubs full of yarn in my basement. I'm trying to use it all.
Yea, I was like that once too. Just one tub, I told myself, when it gets full I won't buy anymore until this is used.
I now have an entire shelving unit because 6 tubs just weren't enough anymore.
I told myself the same thing and I don't even knit that much. I scrapbook and decided I wouldn't end up with another stash yeah right. I moved and donated over 200 skeins and I still have 4 large totes. I really need to start knitting or crocheting. It amazes me that if I find a project I never have the right yarn and need to buy something . Now when I buy something I put it in a ziplock along with the pattern so I at least know what my original intention was. I have pretty much stopped buying yarn for the last few years because well I know better. I have a couple of small projects going and am determined to finish them soon. I work a little bit here and there.

It's been a while since I've crocheted. Beautiful work! My circles are now on their first round of squares. I also found some thicker wool on sale to make myself those crocodile stitch boots.

That's a great start to your crocheting career jennyap . My efforts aren't even worth a photograph - I can get the initial chain done but after that is when it all goes for a ball of chalk! Am obviously doing something wrong but I just can't work out what at the moment though I must have watched those videos hundreds of times now. I really needed someone like craftykitten , who enjoys teaching crochet, to actually show me the next step. Giving it a rest now until later and going back to knitting! Have you managed to give the crochet a try yet JoP ?

That's a great start - if you can do those stitches you can definitely do one of those afghans. Are you going to keep going? For sure! I did another practice piece, could probably count as a washcloth, and although I'm still figuring out the tension issues (it got tighter as I went) it was definitely starting to feel more natural. My DH was like, "did you do all that tonight?" I certainly like how quickly it seems to grow (vs knitting...). I thought he might insist I finish a few other projects before starting something new, but he was all for it, and likes the look of the afghans too. Not that I'd jump straight into that until I am a bit more practiced/confident but he might not have a fit if I order a bunch of yarn

Not that I'd jump straight into that until I am a bit more practiced/confident but he might not have a fit if I order a bunch of yarn Luckily most of the afghans are in acrylic yarn which is much cheaper. I wouldn't knit a wearable garment in acrylic I'd always use pure wool, but for blankets it's fine...so if it doesn't get finished it's not a huge waste of money.

My first attempt - I know it's squiffy on the one side - but I'm so pleased I managed this Practice makes perfect eh way to go. At the squiffy end it looks like you're missing the last stitch, it should go in to the chain. It helps to put in a stitch marker (a safety pin will do) just to remind yourself where that stitch goes.

Thanks for the tip lainey Attempts 2 and 3 I think I need a lighter coloured wool though - I'm struggling to see the chain Attachments:

KelleeM, that's such a fun, happy looking wreath! How long did it take you to make it? I worked on it in bits...probably 5 or 6 hours total I'm guessing. The part to cover the foam form took about an hour and a half. The flowers and leaves are quick (sewing on the buttons took an hour I think). The bee took about a half hour and gluing it down was real quick. Oh the hanger bit was pretty fast too. I started it last Sunday and worked on it in the evenings for an hour or so.

Ha ha... I don't have that much patience!! The little flowers really are quick to make. There are 32 of them. I'm happy to say the only yarn I had to buy for this were the two shades of green. I also found enough buttons in my scrapbooking stash!!
