I would love to be able to let go of things, but every once in a while, I'm reminded of why I tend to keep everything, just in case... I'm working on end of the year scrapbooks for my students. My co-teacher and I are dreadfully behind because staffing crises obliterated our prep time this year so I do these at home. I have some real girly girls in class this year and was looking for a way to jazz up their covers when I found some old chipboard letters in my stash. They're Doodlebug Hopscotch letters - big giant things covered with sugar crystal glitter and totally NOT my style. I can't even remember how they came to be in my stash, but they're perfect for my students! If I had streamlined my supplies, these would have been the first things I got rid of. Ever find something unlikely in your stash that ended up being the perfect touch for your project?  |

I struggle with de-stashing my supplies. My son had a science project last year, and we found the best paper in my stash for his presentation board. The paper was at least 8 years old!

I'm lucky enough to be on a DT so I do get sent product on a regular basis but I also still use a lot of old stuff that I got when I first started scrapping. I don't really worry about what's on trend as no-one who looks at my albums and projects will ever know what was trendy at the time. The DT projects obviously have to use the current stuff but the rest of my projects are very much a free for all.

I will de-stash occasionally but usually only duplicates. And I too have often had "just the perfect" supply for some non-scrappy project.

I keep things for the very same reason! Because I have, just enough times to convince me, used an old supply and it was just PERFECT for my page. I can't think of any examples right now....

Constantly! Most recently, old prima flowers on a last minute card for DS's teacher (it was so cute she hung it up in her classroom) and a sheet from a stack used as background paper for hard-to-match photo colors (greige, but it looked awesome!).

I only destash items I don't like/love anymore, so I've never had any regrets.
DH would ask "when did you destash?" I'm sure he can't tell!

Any destashing I do goes right to my kids so I can steal anything back that I regret  The things I tend to purge are gifts from people who don't scrapbook. I'm not sure where a certain relative of mine shops for scrapbook supplies but I get some interesting stuff... like grab bags of clearance stickers. I am currently trying to find a use for a Tim Holtz paper pad my DH bought for me. It's so grungy and dark and vintage looking and it's holiday themed. It's like the trifecta of not my style. Who wants a grungy dark Christmas layout? Maybe if I hated Christmas. I really am trying not to purge that paper since it was from DH but I can't seem to find a use for it. |

Years ago, as in back around 2001 or so, I bought some paper that was meant for a two page layout. Split between the two pages was a large tree. Years went by, and I couldn't figure out what to do with that paper that had looked so cool in the LSS. Then while on a trip to Vicksburg, MS, we went to a restaurant called the Treehouse Cafe. That paper was perfect for the pictures.
Even if I can't find a scrapping use for something, it can often be used for making cards.

Yup! I loved it when I bought it and more often than not still love it when I unearth it eons later. I can't wait for my studio cabinets to get put in so I can unpack all of my precious treasures that have been in storage for over two years. It will be just like Christmas going through all of my boxes of hoarded stuff! It's been killing me that I can't find stuff that I KNOW I bought at one point and can't remember where the heck it is!

It is a very strange layout of mine if it is does not have old products from my stash, I love incorporating the old and the new together and while I do de-stash I could never imagine getting rid of stuff just because it is a few years old. I was given the opportunity a few years ago to go through a friends stash and take whatever I wanted, it was really old stuff and not much my style but I still managed to find a few lovely things including an ancient sheet of mambi heart stickers, well guess what I used one of those on a layout a while back, such a good feeling knowing that all my beloved scrappy goodies have a place in my layouts.

I will admit to relieving myself of a few ugly papers ( what was I thinking papers) to a young girl who started scrapping, but in reality, I keep everything - and use it.
My photos do not discriminate against old and new....

I tried to destash last yr when we moved .... Not much luck. Only managed to throw away yellowed paper, rusty Flairs, stickers that don't stick anymore and rubons that don't rub?!?! Yup that's how old my stash can get Though I have grown to dislike some papers ... I know one fine day I will make a card for someone who likes that style heheh My Prima flowers is another eg. I hardly use them. Have a hoard of them. Used some to make cards for sweet friends. But still have a large enough supply to cover the walls of my room possibly |

Oh, goodness! If I got rid of old stuff what in the world would I be able to share with my dd (4 yo). She doesn't care how out of style the stickers and paper are. She is so happy when mommy shares her stash. I mean old too, I have been hoarding supplies for almost 20 years.

I bought baby food jar printed paper 8 years ago for a layout for one of my friends ...I ended up not using it and as I had a surprise baby this year it's perfect for his " first feeding" pictures pulled it out with several old papers I had leftover and never purged ! Was so happy that I had it!

I only get rid of stuff given to me that I don't like. If I still love it or even like it, I keep it. I've used old stuff plenty of times. A lot of times it's perfect for the page.

Mmm... last weekend I used some Making Memories metal embellishments on a page - a little plaque with a quote and a couple of little metal bars with short phrases. I used one of Kaisercrafts latest range of papers that had a lot of grey in it and I just needed a few little clusters of something and they were perfect! I also used an old shipping tag and wasn't happy with any twine or ribbon I had so I found a lunchbox FULL of Twistel. The mustard one suited my layout colours perfectly. I think I win.
