Can someone please PM me the last 15 minutes of this film?! We went today and everything was fine during that goofy TV stuff you have to sit through, but when the previews for new movies started, the sound went out. So we sat through silent versions of the previews, but then the feature started, and still no sound! They stopped it and rebooted the projector, and said they would restart at the beginning of the feature. Fine. Only thing is, the film cut off at the appointed TIME for that movie to end so they could prepare the theater for the next movie. So we are really enjoying this moving film righ up until the retired Ranger sits down on the chair on the front porch and asks Toby, "So how'd you do it?" Click. Screen goes blank. Wha...!!! The theater staff were apologetic, but said they could not fast forward to that point and let us finish it. They refunded everyone's ticket price and gave us all passes for a future movie. I have no issue with the theater. they made it as right as they could. But this was a really good movie, and we missed the very end of it. I know we could see it again with the free passes, but we don't want to sit through the whole movie again. We just want to know how it ended! PM'd you. Got it -- thank you so much!

I saw 2 movies while on vacation Hell or High Water and Light Between The Oceans.
I loved HOHW and I thought Jeff Bridges was really good as the ranger. I wouldn't be surprised if he got some nominations. I loved how the film said a lot with just the scenery of Texas and the struggle of people there in that part of Texas.
I loved the relationship between the 2 brothers and the soundtrack. I also liked the relationship between Jeff Bridges and the other ranger.
I didn't read the novel for TLBTO. I really enjoyed the story and was crying by the end of it. MF was just yummy to look at and his love for his wife was touching. The baby was so adorable and the little girl who played the toddler was so amazing. I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat thru the last 30 minutes.

I'm probably in the minority but DD and I saw The Light Between The Oceans last night. Neither of us liked it. I almost got up and left half way thru. Very slow, very painful and I'm not really sure I liked any of the characters that much. Oh! Except that sweet little girl!

We saw Morgan yesterday and really enjoyed it. It was a cool story and Kata Mara is a badass.

We just got back from The Light Between Oceans (I don't think there is a *the* before Oceans) and we both liked it. The scenery was breathtaking and it kept our attention the entire time. leannec , DH liked it. Probably not quite as much as I did but happily there were other men in the theater. We discussed it the entire way home. (He thought MF should have aged more by the end of the movie. ~ I thought he looked just fine.) FWIW, I hadn't read the book.

I really enjoyed Hell or High Water. It's the kind of "small" movie I like--very well-written with great character development that is integrated into the movie so seamlessly, the sense of place and attention to detail, little surprises in both events and characterization. I don't usually watch most movies more than once, but this one, I'd gladly sit through again, because I bet I'd catch things I didn't the first time around. I'll just quote you, because this is how I felt about the movie, too. The whole family loved it and I'm sure we will watch it again.

I also saw The Light Between Oceans yesterday. I read the book, which I adored. I actually thought the movie was slightly better because it was a *little happier. Yes, the scenery was gorgeous as well. I definitely think it's a chick flick. Kudos to your DH, Joy.
MF looked like he aged about 10 years - that's it! I remember that stuck out to me as well.

Lisa DH is a trooper. He pretty much indulges me as to what movies I want to go to. Of course, he has his limits so I don't push too hard on some movies.

cadoodlebug - It is great to have a movie partner as a significant other/spouse, isn't it? Our love of movies and popcorn helped bring us together.

Just got back from seeing Sully! Wow, very powerful ~ be sure to stay for the credits where they show the actual passengers.
We went to a welcome home rally for Sully sometime after it happened (he lives in the Bay Area not far from us.) It was awesome. I had tears in my eyes the entire time.

Our love of movies and popcorn helped bring us together. my husband and I are movie buddies too! now that they have reserved, dine-in, fully reclining seats just down the street from us, we are even bigger movie goers than before (if that's even possible).

I thought Tom Hanks did an amazing job as Sully - so much so that I actually forgot it was Tom Hanks! I liked the fact that almost every scene was relevant. There wasn't any added "fluff" or drama just to extend the length of the movie.

I saw Other People over the weekend. It's a new release (starring Molly Shannon and Jesse Plemons) that is playing in some theatres but is also available on iTunes and Time Warner On Demand.
It was fantastic. Wonderful performances in a wonderful film. I highly recommend!

Bridget Jones' Baby was hilarious!!! Haven't laughed that hard in a very long time. We also saw Mr Church with Eddie Murphy. The critics weren't impressed, but we really liked it.

Just got back from seeing Snowden. Oliver Stone was crafty by casting Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Snowdon. Who doesn't love him? He makes for a very sympathetic character. We enjoyed the movie, the acting was top-notch and the cinematography great. I go back and forth between whether he was a traitor or a hero. He made it clear he didn't want stuff leaked that would put people in harm's way but felt the people in the US needed to know they were being spied on. I wish I could talk to my cousin who was in the CIA but she passed away last year.

Just watched The Danish Girl. What incredible but heartbreaking performances by Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander. IMHO he truly deserved to win the Oscar.

Just got home from seeing The Magnificent Seven. Both of us liked it since we grew up with westerns on TV. And with Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt ~ what's not to like?

We finally got out to see some movies lately, it's been awhile. We saw Sully. DH and I both really liked it. Tom Hanks was really good in it. A few weeks ago we saw "Gleason". It's a documentary about Steve Gleason, he's an ex New Orleans Saints player who suffers from ALS. I thought it was very well done.
I want to take DH to "Magnificent Seven" as he loves westerns. My DS invited me to see "Snowden". I haven't been gung-ho to go but when your 18 yo DS invites you, you go:) glad to hear a good review. I am conflicted about his story.

Just got back from seeing Deepwater Horizon about the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. It left us exhausted and ticked all over again about the spill. People should have gone to prison.
ETA: Two thumbs up and I recommend it.

I saw this movie back at Oscar time (every year I make it a mission to watch every movie nominated in the major categories). I loved this movie. It was so beautiful, heartbreaking and lovely at the same time. And the performances of him and his wife were just breathtaking. She won but he should have won as well.

Joy, I really appreciate you taking time to post about the movies. My DH and I very rarely see a movie in the theater but I really enjoy hearing your reviews. You seem to have a great and fun life with your DH, I can only hope my retirement is as half as pleasant.

DH is a realtor so even when we move next year to our retirement home up east of Sacramento, he'll still have his license.

Went and saw Girl on the Train on Saturday. I didn't read the book, I had borrowed it but didn't get a chance to. The gf I went with had read the book. I really enjoyed the movie so did she. I don't know if I would have liked it as much knowing the ending and plot twists. My gf had read the book awhile ago so some of the movie was new to her.

Saw The Magnificent 7 today and oh my gosh I really enjoyed it! I loved Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt in it and loved all the gun battles. I really liked the knife throwing gunslinger. It was quite a long movie but I didn't find it dragging. I wish Matt Bomer had a bigger role damn he is fine!
