Before last week it had been two years since I went to the movies. I went to see Rogue One on Christmas Eve and saw La La Land yesterday.
I had high hopes for both and neither disappointed. Rogue One was darker than the last Star Wars movie but both my husband and I liked it better. La La Land was great. Beautifully filmed and I loved the choreography.

I saw LaLa Land yesterday and Jackie today. Both were excellent, but VERY different.
I thought LaLa Land was charming and original and sentimental. Adorably written, and just a delight.
Jackie was SAD, but very well done. Great portrayal by Natalie Portman. She's gonna be hard to beat for an Oscar.

Glad you both liked La La Land. I adored it and want to see it again. Couldn't get the music out of the head for days.

I've seen:
Rogue One - what I expected, enjoyed it
La La Land - lovely movie, more melancholy that I expected, but it fit with the movie and I really enjoyed it
Manchester by the Sea - as bleak as I thought it would be and thought the movie was fantastic. Loved "You Can Count on Me" and was happy to see another movie written/directed by Kenneth Lonergan. Cast was excellent. Although I was disappointed to find out afterwards about the sexual assault charges against Casey Affleck. Blech. This movie is character driven and could be characterized as "quiet" or "slow", so if you don't like those kinds of movies - avoid!
Moonlight - I could say a lot of the same things as I did about Manchester by the Sea - excellent cast and fantastic, character driven movie. This was adapted from a play and I think it shows in the powerful scenes and complex characters. So good.
Seeing Fences later today - expecting another great movie!

I have zero interest in anything to do with Jackie or the Kennedy's, but everything I've read said Natalie Portman is terrific. Still haven't decided if I will see it or not.

Just got back from seeing Passengers with Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. It was enjoyable ~ would have been more so if we hadn't seen previews about 10 times! Not Oscar worthy but fine for a cold, rainy day.

we saw Hacksaw Ridge yesterday.
VERY gripping story, VERY bloody (I didn't quite expect that much realistic gore, for some reason- although I should have, since it was Mel Gibson), and VERY moving. I was bawling by the very end and had to collect myself before I could leave the theater.
I know so little about WWII; it made me want to learn much more about it. (our issues today seem so insignificant, in comparison!)
--it was really intense, though- I joked that we maybe should have seen Sing, instead, lol!

We don't often go to a movie but saw Fences last week. Denzel was awesome as was all of the acting. The story was great but it was a slow movie. Dh and I both cried at the end.

I have only heard wonderful things about Hidden Figures. Alas, I chose to see La La Land. The ending was the best part of the movie, but the rest of the movie - well, it was so-so. Way, WAY too long. I just did not love it. I couldn't get into the characters at all. The clothing was great, though!

We saw Live By Night, the new Ben Affleck movie. It was good not amazing but good. Would have been just as good as a rental. I love that era, so I enjoyed it.

What we loved about it was that we had not seen previews. We knew nothing about the movie and that made it so much more enjoyable. I would like to read the book too.

I just checked out the book that "Lion" is based on from the library. I don't think the movie is showing anywhere around here any more . So I will have to watch it later.
I adored "Hidden Figures." So powerful!
I also want to see "Live by Night." I loved the book!

Saw La La Land last Tuesday for my birthday and I enjoyed it. I am not huge fan of musicals but it was good. I love the chemistry between Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone and I loved the clothing! It was a sweet story!
Saw Hidden Figures over the weekend and loved it!
Had not heard about Lion until I watched the Golden Globes and now it is on my list to see!

There are very few movies I love, but when I love them, I LOVE them. I have to say that in the theater, most people loved La La Land. I just compare it to something like Brooklyn, which is a similar type of love story of two people seeking their dreams, and I don't think there's a comparison. I could watch Brooklyn over and over. Still, nothing compares to how bad the next to last movie I saw was - Hail, Caesar. I would compare that to La La Land. At least La La Land had a point, but both of those movies seem that Hollywood is having a love story with itself.

We watched this over the weekend. We were on sort of a double date and the majority vote was for Passengers. I wanted to see Hidden Figures and you can bet, I'll be dragging DH to see it this coming weekend.
Passengers was very good and worth watching. It's a bit slow though and we made the mistake of catching the late show starting at 10 pm after eating a big dinner out. There was a few areas I think we all dozed off in. The fact we were the only 4 in the theater didn't help any.

No way can you compare that with La La Land.

Last night, I took DS2 and his sweet girlfriend - again! - to see a sneak preview of A Dog's Purpose. I was soooo happy to go to the screening for this! It's beyond adorable! You laugh, you cry, you say "awwwwww" a lot. And the dogs. They are simply the best.
Perfect for the family!
The teens with me freely admitted that they loved it to pieces!

We just got home from seeing The Founder, a drama that tells the true story of how Ray Kroc, a salesman from Illinois, met Mac and Dick McDonald, who were running a burger operation in 1950s Southern California. Very enlightening ~ you'll never look at McDonald's the same way again!
