saw NERVE today with my 15dd and her friend. Better than I thought it would be and both girls walked out saying how scary the internet can be, which i was not unhappy about.

I went to Lights Out last Friday. If you like scary (not gory) movies, you will probably enjoy it. Thumbs up from me. Even though it is PG 13, IMO it is definitely not for children due to the scare factor!! I just watched the trailer and that looks so good! I love that kind of movie.

I watched The Hundred Foot Journey on cable recently and really did not know what to expect. What a lovely movie! And the main actor...hubba hubba!!! I saw that with my girlfriend in the theater and loved it. I never would have picked it, but it was great. My husband wanted to see it a few weeks ago and I happily sat through it again, it was just that good.

Saw Suicide a Squad last night. I liked it. The cast was great but the villain plot line was kind of weak. Jared Leto was great but not used enough. HE should have been the central villain and not the Witch. That would have made it an even better movie.

Just got back from seeing the movie Hunt for the Wildepeople with Sam Neill. It is a movie about a national manhunt for a rebellious kid and his foster uncle who go missing in the wild New Zealand bush. I thought it was going to be a drama but it was a comedy/drama. Some very funny moments along with some very sad moments. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!

I watched "The Danish Girl" on HBO. LOVED it ! It's a beautiful, touching love story. Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander are wonderful. I found the scene where Gerda asks Lili to go get her husband, she needs him, she wants him, was particularly touching. The scenery and the costumes were superb. Two thumbs way up from me.

Saw "Florence Foster Jenkins" Sunday. What a great movie! Streep was tremendous, and really good at singing badly! The surprise for me was Simon Helberg, who plays Howard in Big Bang. He's a trained jazz pianist, apparently. He was very good as Madame Florence's accompanist, Cosme McMoon!
A compelling true story, that says so much about choosing was brings you joy, rather than dwelling on the negative.
If you go, be sure and sit through all the credits for the "curtain call," which is an interview with Streep, Helberg, and Hugh Grant.

We saw Star Trek and Lights Out last weekend. Loved both of them. Our plan was to see Suicide Squad yesterday, but the weather was yukky and we ended up staying home and watching Lifetime movies all day LOL!

DH and I saw Pete's Dragon yesterday and really enjoyed it! It's a really beautiful movie that brings all kinds of emotions. We also saw Jason Bourne last week. DH liked it... I just liked looking at Matt Damon. He really gets better looking with age.

Saw Florence Foster Jenkins and once more, Meryl Streep proves why she has so many acting awards. She is breathtakingly awesome. But there was no curtain call at our theater and I stayed until the lights went up and there was nothing on the screen.

I'm going to an early release showing of Kubo and The Two Strings tonight. It's from Laika, creators of Coraline, Box Trolls and Paranorman. So I'm expecting it to stay along the same lines as their other movies...epic storytelling of good vs evil with a good bit of twisty dark humor. The witches in the preview alone will hopefully keep little itty bitty kids away. I shall return and update later. But honestly, I'm biased and will like it even if everyone else in the theatre hates it. The artistry of the characters alone is amazing!
UPDATE: Wow! Amazing storyline, the artistry that went into these characters is stunning. It most definitely is too much for very young children. Check common sense media for complete details in deciding if this is a suitable movie for your kid. If you enjoyed Coraline, you'll like this one. I actually got choked up through different parts of the movie. The sensitivity and love really emanates from the characters. And if I haven't said it enough, without giving away too many details, the storyline is true to Japanese storytelling. Tragedy, darkness, magic, loss and love, enduring epic love. I can't wait to own this film. Kubo is a hero for artists, he is not the typical brawny and brave muscle man. Just a young, one eyed boy that tells a most engrossing story.

I LOVE IT!
This is not much of a spoiler....the scene with the dad and the computer is my husband! And we always throw daughter at him to help.
Love this movie!

I absolutely LOVED Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. She was definitely the highlight for me. We stayed around after the movie ended to see if there were any additional scenes. After the main credits there was another scene. I thought there might even be another scene or a trailer after the next lot of credits (as there was in the most recent Avengers movie) but there wasn’t. The only thing that happened was the cleaning staff were annoyed at having to wait for us to leave the cinema!

We got "Rudderless" from Netflix dvds and loved it. Stars the hot Billy Crudup and the sweet, late, Anton Yelchin.
Didn't watch trailer or read much about it which made it more enjoyable. Can't go wrong with Billy and Anton.

Saw Hell or High Water with Jeff Bridges and Chris Pine today. We both really liked it ~ it kept you guessing as to how it would end. My apologies to anyone who lives in west Texas but it was pretty grim.

Just got home from seeing Don't Breathe. It's the one where 3 people decide to rob a blind vet. Big mistake! We both enjoyed it. There was only one *jump-out-my-seat* moments but many Oh Shit moments.

My apologies to anyone who lives in west Texas but it was pretty grim. Can someone please PM me the last 15 minutes of this film?! We went today and everything was fine during that goofy TV stuff you have to sit through, but when the previews for new movies started, the sound went out. So we sat through silent versions of the previews, but then the feature started, and still no sound! They stopped it and rebooted the projector, and said they would restart at the beginning of the feature. Fine. Only thing is, the film cut off at the appointed TIME for that movie to end so they could prepare the theater for the next movie. So we are really enjoying this moving film righ up until the retired Ranger sits down on the chair on the front porch and asks Toby, "So how'd you do it?" Click. Screen goes blank. Wha...!!! The theater staff were apologetic, but said they could not fast forward to that point and let us finish it. They refunded everyone's ticket price and gave us all passes for a future movie. I have no issue with the theater. they made it as right as they could. But this was a really good movie, and we missed the very end of it. I know we could see it again with the free passes, but we don't want to sit through the whole movie again. We just want to know how it ended!

Sounds like Hell or High Water is the one to see, huh?
I took my 90-year-old MIL to see The Light Between Oceans last night. She hasn't been to a movie in years. I was worried how it would go but she claimed to love it. She said "I didn't think they made movies like that anymore." I was so happy. I had read the book so knew what to expect. I felt it stayed true to the book but it seemed like there was more background about the main character, the lighthouse keeper, that they didn't show in the film. I think, if I'm remembering correctly, that information provided insight into his character. The movie, is beautiful, but also grim. Let's put it this way, I regretted that I didn't bring my tissues.
How can you go wrong though with Michael Fassbender and the exquisite Alicia Vikander?

It's the kind of "small" movie I like--very well-written with great character development that is integrated into the movie so seamlessly, the sense of place and attention to detail, little surprises in both events and characterization. I don't usually watch most movies more than once, but this one, I'd gladly sit through again, because I bet I'd catch things I didn't the first time around.
