Yes I know, there are crochet threads galore right now. At least the title makes it easy to avoid if you're not interested, right? #sorrynotsorry Seriously though, do we have a monthly crochet thread (I couldn't see one)? If not, perhaps it's time we started doing that! Anyway, to the point of the thread... I finished my cowl! Well kinda. It's still just a flat rectangle, with loose ends, because it turns out I don't own a darning needle. I have some coming to me (along with one of the Attic24 yarn packs from Wool Warehouse) but in the meantime here it is. Any seaming tips I should know about? I didn't love love working the ribbing - either I was doing something wrong at the start/end of the rows, or the instructions were missing something, as I struggled to keep my stitch count right, but I got there in the end. Overall though, super happy. Even my DH was impressed! Today i received this rather lovely yarn bowl (UK girls check out Little Wren Pottery if you're in the market for one) and you might notice I put it straight to use. Sitting in it are the first few rows of a hat to go with my cowl. Working in the round will be my new challenge! I'm using this pattern but using the same yarn as my cowl so it will be striped also. Haven't decided whether to use 2 or 3 colours in the main hat - pom pom would probably use the 3rd either way. Sorry the pics aren't the greatest, all taken after dark.

It looks great and so neat. Love the yarn bowl, I currently keep my working yarn in one of the organza bags from WW but a bowl would be so much prettier. A monthly crochet thread sounds a good idea, we did have one but it fizzled.

Just started teaching myself, so I would be interested in a monthly thread although it will likely be a long time before I will be posting anything.
Any good tutorials?

I finished my cowl! Well kinda. I think it's a fantastic first ever project! Well done. AS for the hat I'd use all three colors, but in random small stripes, perhaps just at the top or just at the bottom and then have a big stripe of whichever is your favourite colour. You don't want it to be too 'matchy' with the cowl. Cute bowl too - I think you've been well and truly sucked into the crochet vortex! Personally, I like that people post things as they do them and as they want to share, I'm not a fan of regular threads where the same person has to start them, and then if they are late or forget everyone else does the "is there a xxxx thread yet??" and waits to post. I vote no to any sort of regular thread, and 'yes' to any thread where someone is excited enough to take photos and want to share. Whenever any sort of hobby becomes popular there's naturally going to be an increase in posts on that topic.

Someone else here mentioned "The Crochet Crowd" & a guy called Mikey they have a website and a YouTube channel with lots of videos, I watched a few of those to refresh my memory and thought they were very helpful and easy to follow. I did watch one random amigurumi video the other day and the girl doing it was talking about the needles, the string and the knots (hook/yarn/crochet stitch)...she needed to watch a few more herself to get the terminology right!

The cowl looks great.
I love the yarn bowl.
I just want to say that Patter (on this board) has a great pattern on her blog.. I've used it for a couple of afghans that I've made, and I really like it a lot. If she shows up on this thread, hopefully she'll link it. (I can't remember how to tag someone).

Great work, you must be chuffed with your first project. The bowl is very cute. Here's a link to joining instructions with lots of clear pictures, the one called the mattress stitch is pretty invisible but sometimes you want to make a feature of your joining. www.cherryheartcrochet.co.uk/p/joining.html

Your project looks great! I wouldn't have guessed you're a beginner! I had trouble with keeping my stitch counts when I worked straight lines...my first project was a 12 star baby afghan that lainey posted. I have an awesome yarn bowl that my dh's friend made for me out of wood. Yours is so pretty!

Here is her Etsy shop link: www.etsy.com/uk/shop/LittleWrenPotteryAlthough she says they will take 3-4 weeks, I ordered on 7th March and received it on the 21st, so for me at least it was much quicker. Obviously that will depend on how busy she is. IMO it was really good value too. I've only had it a few hours of course, but I'm very happy with it.

Maybe means a few more ends to deal with than I planned, but considering I'm probably moving on to a stripey blanket after that it will be good practice! Yeah, I've definitely caught the bug. I blame you Thanks for all the love ladies!

Did someone say vortex??

I've finished all of my granny squares! I ended up doing more because when I had enough to lay them out and see the final size & measurements I decided on 12 x 12 so now I've done 144 of them. I'll be staying at my mother's over Easter, and plan to sew them up there...then I'll post some photos next week.

I finished my (semi) matching hat Probably the first time I've made a pom pom in over 25 years! Here I am modelling them both - the cowl is a bit small but that's ok, just makes it extra snug.

I was just wondering this morning what all of you crocheters were up to and how your projects were going, so I'm glad to see your update. Your hat and cowl look fantastic! I love the colors and the stitch pattern. And the pom-pom is awesome!

You did great! Your hat and pompon are awesome!!!
This is thread being bumped is very timely as I was just looking at yarn for a new project. I'm thinking about ordering from Wool Warehouse but have to figure out colors and how much I need! I really want to make one of the Attic 24 afghans but don't have anyone to give one to...maybe I'll make it and donate it to the cancer center where I received my treatment.

I went looking for a clapping smiley.... found the dancing smiley and then accidentally added it in to your post. I like it there! I'm just gonna leave it right where it's happy to be.
