I am one who likes to buy classes but am bad about seeing them through. I usually look at part of the lessons but never completely finish or apply them. Anyone with me on this? It also seems hard for me to go back even though I have "lifetime" access. I think I am about to challenge myself to do some..self paced of course.

I don't buy too many classes, but this is totally why. I get half way through and then something happens that I get behind. Or I'll view all of the material but won't make the layouts.

Yes, me too! I watch all the videos and read and save the PDF's
But actually make a LO to follow with the class? Not often. I think I use them more for inspiration.
I looked at 2peas last night and I could still access my classes ? I want to try again tonight and maybe re watch a few more videos if I can.

I am a HUGE collector of classes! I don't have a LSS close by and no IRL scrappy friends. I love downloading the PDF's to read whenever & I can decide to be as chatty as I want on the MB's. I'll join you on your challenge to get through some classes!

Yeah I'm bad that way too. Although, it seems most of the classes I've purchased lately are more mixed media or card technique classes. Some of them are a bit more in depth than what I would use on a layout, but I use them for inspiration on my own projects.
I've taken some of the OnlineCardClasses ones and I liked those a lot. Especially the 2 that Tim taught. I have used those techniques on my cards.

That's why I don't buy many classes! They always seem to come at the wrong time for me - like when I'm super busy at work and just can't keep up with things. I've taken the odd one and found them valuable but I think what suits me more is just one off lessons or videos that I can watch. Seems a lot more manageable!

I've never taken a class. I realized I'm a lazy scrapbooker and I wouldn't use half the techniques or products offered. I would be interested in a journaling class.

Yup, that's me. I stopped buying them because I have yet to finish one class I started. I have an online class for work that I have yet to finish and I've been trying to finish is since last year.

I'll join you on your challenge to get through some classes! Where have you taken classes? Most of mine are at Studio Calico but have taken two at Big Picture and a few at Online Card Classes. I have downloaded the PDF's at work and combined them into one large PDF and added them to my iPad. I am hoping this helps. What does everyone consider "completing a class"? For me, I think it is reading through everything and watching everything and applying some of the lessons to layouts, cards or other projects. I think I may look through some of Bright Ideas at SC (the first one) before I start the second one. |

No. I have found that I rarely enjoy them and almost never learn anything at all. The sum total that I've been able to make myself pay for have been classes at the Scrapbook Expo (taken with friends as a group activity, otherwise I would not have bothered) and a few Shimelle classes. I don't think I learned anything from the ones I took, but I enjoyed just watching her videos. But then it begs the question why did I pay for her class when I could have just watched the many free Glitter Girl videos that preceded it?

It took me a long time to realize that I just wasn't an online class type of person. I've probably bought 10 classes over the past few years and didn't finish one. As tempting as some of these newer classes are, I know better than to buy any.

I have a number of classes but only from the past year. I've finished a few of them but some haven't kept my interest through the whole thing. I like ones that have a message board or a challenge to share layouts made.

I also start out gung ho but life usually gets in the way before I finish any class I buy. I don't buy many and have to feel like I will really gain something from it. I've had a couple where I've managed to finish them - a sketch class that I took to get back into the swing of things after a break from scrapping, the Yesterday and Today class by Ali Edwards which was my first class, and a couple of Shimelle's classes. I keep thinking I should put myself on a schedule to actually go through and finish some of the other classes I have bought over the years.

The second class I liked was Allison Davis's (scrapbook generation) class about how to alter sketches. It gave some very basic principles I could use over and over.

I bought a couple with coupons but not in excess. I did however realize that I never finished Wilna's Art Class when I went to download the videos b4 2 peas closed. I've watched a couple in the last couple of weeks but have many more to go.

I have about 3 pages left over from my 1st collection laying on my table that I need to use. Maybe I will challenge myself to use those this weekend. Thanks for the reminder. |

I absolutely love attending classes in person. But that's no longer an option now that there really aren't any brick & mortar stores around. I've purchased dozens of on-line classes, and only completed one or two of them. I have three 3' ring binders full of printouts from all the classes I've purchased, thinking that eventually I'll do them at my own pace. I have folders with all the digital media on my computer. But no, I've yet to complete any of them…some of them I never even started! There are a few that I bought years ago, and there's no 'lifetime' access on those. And I'm missing most of the information for some reason. And those are the ones I would most like to do now.  |

Another message board recently did this, using the Allison Davis 6x6 Paper Pad class. They took it week by week, which was easy to do since it is a PDF class, and doesn't involve any videos or chats. There was a moderator, and those who were interested purchased the class ($15), then posted photos of the layouts they made from the assignments on threads the moderator posted. There was an incredible amount of positive reinforcement in the form of comments and compliments! That seemed to help keep people motivated to complete the class.

I got roped (gently tugged) into buying two SC classes that I have never even looked at online. I like the classes, and bought the kits, but just never have been able to follow...part of the reason as it includes videos and I find scrapping to the videos tedious. I would rather print the instructions and check things off the list. It is the way I learn I guess.

I've figured out that I can only do a *live* class, and the shorter the better. I've taken two year long classes at BPC, and not finished them. I've also purchased a few digital photography self-paced classes at Jesssica Sprague and not even touched them (how sad!!). My best luck has been with short (4-6 week) classes with multiple challenges and a forum. Without the accountability and drive for competition, I seem to let the class fall by the wayside!
