I do exactly what Chinagirl828 said above. If I have to get up and go to the computer to cut shapes, I will then get on FB, or play games or something else and get completely distracted from scrapping. So I also cut lots of shapes at once, or if I need a title cut, I will wait until I have a few that need cut, and do them all at once.

I need to use mine. I've had it for a couple years now. I'm a bit intimidated by it.

I find that it takes a lot of effort to set up my electronic cutter compared to just grabbing sticker alphabets. I use Cricut when I need a specific patterned paper for the letters or a very fancy/specialty font I've downloaded from the Internet to fit the overall design.
I like a varied look to my pages in an album, which is why I have rub-ons, dies, stamps, stencils, stickers of all types (cardboard, foam, fuzzy, glossy, tiny) and Cricut to create words for me. And yep, sometimes I skip the photos altogether and let the photos do the talking.

My Cricuit use is sporadic but it's just a reflection of my scrapbooking time! I use my Cricuit often and even plan some projects around it. My dd also uses it often for school, 4-H and even personal projects. Now if we just had more time to scrapbook

Unfortunately, last time I tried to use my Gypsy, it didn't turn on. That little thing made the Cricut a lot more user-friendly without having to have a computer available. Don't see myself using the Cricut for much in the future. That said, it wasn't something that I used all that often anyway!

I have a Silhouette after previously owning the Cricut. I use the Silhouette more but used the Cricut often as well. The Silhouette sits next to where my laptop sits when it is in my craft room. On some layouts I know I'm going to cut titling with the Silhouette but others I think I'll use Thickers. If I have any trouble at all finding Thickers to do a title, I turn to the Silhouette. I also think of it when I don't have the right purchased embellishment. There are tons more things you can your die cutter for but I think if you focus on some basic things you know you need like letters and embellishments, you'll use it more.

I have the Cricut Expression and use it nearly every day. If I'm doing any crafting at all, I use it. It sits out where it's easily accessible. I have SCAL so I can design my own cut files and cut any font I want. I just love it.

I got mine for Christmas and haven't done a ton of scrapbooking since then, but I probably used it, mostly for titles on about 60% of the pages I've done. I have a good friend who's anxious to try it out, so I'm sure I'll do a ton of stuff with it with her. At least I hope so!

I use my cricut as much as I can on my layouts. I had it for awhile and never really used it until I took it out of the box and left out to where I can easily use it. I do find that even though I have MANY cricut cartridges I always end up using the same ones over and over.

I then realized the cartridge I picked is around the same theme of all my other favorite cartridges.

And I find that I use just a few of them. Which ones do you use @amayalylac ?
Seem to come back to my CTMH cartridges a lot, especially for cards. I like their seasonal images and greetings, and the background grids, etc.
Also, the Dress Up cartridges are a mainstay, because they have all the seasonal images, and because I can dress up their cute little people to match my cute little grandkids!
Used my baby cartridge a lot when I was making baby albums. Can't find it now to get the exact name: must have stored it in one of the artbins of baby pp & extras.

I use Summer in Paris, Art Nouveau, Hello Kitty Greetings, Hello Kitty Font, & Lacy Labels. I just bought Art Deco. Summer in Paris & Art Noveau because I love to make elegant items. Hello Kitty cartridges because I am Kawaii girl. It's such a perfect Kawaii cart. I do own other carts that are very Kawaii from Cricut but I always reach for my HK images first. I do think they are elegant cartridges if you know how to create with it. Lacy Labels- The perfect Nestabilities cart. I was so excited when that cartridge came out. For the price of one set of Nestabilies I got a cartridge full of different beautiful nested shapes. I do own some Nestabilities now. I still use Lacy Labels all the time. I also like Croc's Rule. That cartridge has always made me laugh. I like to make funny things to cheer up my loved ones. The planner craze has made me use Create A Critter more than I used too. All the CAC paper clips going around I had to make some. Funny story- I have been looking for a paper piecing file of a unicorn. I have been looking for six months now. I couldn't find any coloring pages, SVG's, Silhouette Store or any kind of unicorn file that I liked. I was getting so frustrated. Tonight I looked again thinking I need some more frustration. I see this girls blogs she has the perfect unicorn. It was a Cricut cartridge- Once Upon A Princess. A cartridge I have owned since it came out, lol. Lesson learned- Check your cartridge library! I guess I have gotten into some stodgy Cricut habits. I always use to check my cartridges first for an image.

I have a cricut and it just sits in my closet and I probably haven't used in 3 years, don't even know where the plug is. I'm too lazy to pull it out and it just makes a mess. I prefer my cuttlebug to die cutting images. I went cricut crazy years ago when it was really popular and just had to buy all the cartridges, etc, but I stopped doing that and never went back. If I make a card, it is so much easier to just use my cuttlebug.
But if you want to use it more, it's best to keep it plugged up and in an area you'll likely to use it.

When I lived in Florida and had lots of space, my Silhouette was always hooked to my computer and ready to go. While living in California in much smaller space, I have to keep the machine on a shelf and get it out and hook it up to use it. I've found I used it a LOT less since it is less convenient. Luckily, moving back to Florida in June and can spread out again.

nylene let me know about this site in another thread. Used it yesterday to search for specific images, and when I saw some cartridges I own, pulled them off the shelf, and eureka!
Here is the link
BTW, I like Create a Critter, too, especially for kids' bd cards. Maybe should look there when doing kids' pages as well!

I have a scan n cut, space is the issue. I don't have to hook to a computer, but I need space. I would use it more if it had a dedicated space and time to become proficient. As it is, every time I use it I have to figure out all over again what I'm doing.

I have a Cricut Create I use with SCAL. My use is intermittent. I go through weeks without switching it on, but will then get inspired and use it for 10 projects in a row. That's why I'm hesitant to upgrade to a Cameo at the moment.

I have a Cricut with SCAL and rarely use it. I did however pre-plan for a crop and made 20 titles last month. I am not excited about most of my cartridges except the Disney ones or the CTMH ones. Finding a good font using SCAL takes a lot of my time so I opt for stickers or thickers.

I fall into a couple of camps, lol. I have a Cuttlebug, a Slice & a Cameo. Oh, and that deal of the day from HSN's craft day a few months ago. <sigh> I just got my Cameo and am still a little afraid. But I'm getting better. While I do have it out all the time, my laptop is not hooked up to it permanently, so I have to unplug it, carry it (the cord & the mouse) down to my scrappy table and hook it up. So that's an issue. Another big 'issue' is that I already have an abundance of letter stickers & embellishments (and a few Thickers), so I feel compelled to use them up first, before buying a new font or embellishment from Silhouette. And my last issue? I like having Project Runway (season 4, to be exact) on in the background if I'm having a scrapping day. I don't have a TV or DVD player w/in view, so I use my laptop. Can't have that playing and use the Cameo, so I have to alternate. Sad, I know. So, to answer your question, cannmom, I don't use any of them as often as I should. I've probably used the Slice the most, but I've had it the longest, so there's that. I don't die cut or emboss nearly as often as I could and I really need to make more of an effort to do that so I can feel justified in my purchase of the Cuttlebug. I wanted the Cameo for so long that I really hope I use it more and feel that I've gotten my money's worth, because so far I really love it.

tiffanytwisted there are all kinds of free True Type fonts that you can use to cut titles or alphas on your Cameo, you don't have to use only the paid ones from the Silhouette store. You can use any font, that's the beauty of machines like that. I would do that first and only buy a font if you really, REEALLY have to have a certain one. If you register at creativemarket.com they offer at least one cool free font to download every week. There are all kinds of places that offer free cutting files too, you just have to do a little Googling to find them. In fact, I think I remember there being threads on here about the best places to get cutting files online too. Have fun with your new toy!

I have a Cricut Create I use with SCAL. My use is intermittent. I go through weeks without switching it on, but will then get inspired and use it for 10 projects in a row. That's why I'm hesitant to upgrade to a Cameo at the moment. Of all the years I have been die cutting and all the die cutters I have tried using the Cricut Create with SCAL was my favorite setup. It was so simple and it worked. If I needed a quick cut of something just put in my cartridge and it was done. I was thinking about my cutters today and my biggest cutter regret was getting talked into buying an Expressions. I have never cut anything from any of my die cutters over 5 inches. Seriously! I have been die cutting for over a decade now. Small die cutters are the best. I bet that is a lot of reason why scrapbookers and crafters don't utilize their machines because the machines are so big, take up a lot of room and it's just a hassle. Tonight I have a few Cricut projects I want to make. I had a big day of house things to do and remodeling projects. I just don't feel like running in with my computer or iPad to cut things out on my Explore. I am playing Regency Solitaire instead, lol. TiffanyTwisted- It's not sad about your setup. I have a portable DVD player in my room so I can play movies because my computer is always doing something for crafting- using my printers, die cutting. I didn't like to alternate either. It was annoying. I have an iPad but I am usually reading on it. It's become my e-reader. I do have to take my laptop and mouse in my room too. I have a large gaming notebook. Even though my room is only a few feet away my animals think it's stampede time when they see me to go to my room so you can imagine the melee of balancing my notebook while being tripped by the critter patrol looks like, lol. I use free fonts too. I have never bought an alpha from the Silhouette store. I miss the Slice. My little portable punch machine. I was the unlucky lot that had the wonky Slice.

^^^Most definitely! One of my favourite fonts to cut is "Pacifica". Also love "Lobster". I have too many to choose from and it's one of reasons I don't use my cameo as much as I should: too many choices!
I did want to report in to say that my cameo got used last night! Just to create a title for my DDs history-fair project - but boy were we happy to have it available.

I was at a crop this past weekend and observed those who use their Cricut for every single element on their pages to just backgrounds or titles. I used mine more this weekend because there were several other ladies who walked me through sizing, etc. because that is what intimidates me and I hate wasting paper trying to find the right size!
Luckily I can leave mine sitting out in my scrap room but do need to use it more often!

I get it that it's easy, but I can just as easily find free fonts that's similar to the styles I want, cut exactly the letters I need from exactly the right color paper (or patterned paper, should I want that) and even weld it all together into one piece if I want--and make a shadow mat too! All for the price of a piece of cardstock. Once my computer is turned on it only takes a few minutes to do. I must just be really cheap, because the thought of spending $2-5 on one pack of letters I would only partially use when I can basically get the same thing for less than 50¢ (and still have paper left over) seems like such a waste. Something I've seen a lot lately but haven't tried myself is using the same diecut stacked and glued 2-3 together to make it thick like chipboard. It looks like custom Thicker words.

Not often enough! Add me to the list of lazy scrapbookers who would rather slap a pre-made embellishment down and some thickers then making my own with my silhouette!! ^^ this is me, too... I finally made a space on my table for my Cameo to sit out all the time, thinking that would make it easier, but I usually have my laptop downstairs so I can surf the internet, so there's still a process of having to hook it up, design the element, choose the paper, etc. I should really pre-cut some shapes, and use them like other pre-made embellishments, but for some reason I have this idea that I *should* custom-make every embellishment exactly for the layout as I'm working on it. (and THAT certainly hasn't worked out so far, lol) Oddly enough, I reach for my border punches a lot more often than using my Cameo even though I have NEVER gotten the hang out of aligning the punch correctly to make a punched border perfect. I usually mess up the punch at least once during the process of punching a 12-inch border, and one of the things I bought a LOT of for my Cameo was borders. My next BIG project is a Hawaii vacation album I'm going to work on at a 3-Day NSD crop. I bought a TON of tropical and beach themed Silhouette cuts *just* for that purpose; I really should mass-produce embellishments BEFORE the 3-day crop so I can actually *scrapbook* at the crop, lol!!

Do you use sketches? If you do, that will make it even easier because you'll know in advance from the sketch you're using what type of embellishments and title will work for the layout and how big you can go with them (layered palm tree, pair of flip flops, a crab, fancy drink glass, sunglasses, etc.), just like making your own custom Jolee's. My problem is that I'm disorganized in general and usually don't even have my photos printed until right before I go so I never know what layouts I'm going to be working on. I need to get better at having some stuff planned ahead of time so I know what I'm doing!
