My parents are 80 and they don't have an old people smell. Their house doesn't either, even though it's very damp an humid where they live. I've been to yard sales though where everything has that odor. That list was interesting- my dad now does the laundry b/c my mom can't lift the laundry basket full of clothes, and bending over isn't good for her either.
I'd second the duct cleaning service- DH has done some of that work and it's amazing what a difference that can make!

Our first house was like that. It was a tiny old house that we had purchased from a family that lost their grandpa. He was living alone for many years. He died at home. That didn't bother me. But yes we had the smell for a long time, but we had planned to do remodleing anyway. We didn't get rid of it till we did paint and then we had to tear up the floor in one of the rooms because it was soo old and not sitting well. Maybe that's where the smell is? Good luck!

I would try diffusing some essential oils - the one that I'm familiar with is Purification by Young Living - but I'm sure there are others out there.

my go to answer in these situations is usually bowls/jars of white vinegar sitting around the house. refill as needed. It got the teen boy stank out of his bedroom.
