To change the subject, are you the Pea with a DD named Sydney? If so, how is she? I am! She's doing great. She's 9 years old and in 3rd grade. She's come a long way especially since starting school. We've been very lucky with teachers and support staff that have been a huge help. She also started karate a few years ago and that has helped tremendously with her motor skills. Thank you so much for asking. I'm so glad!! I would love to see pictures of your kids. I'm particularly remember Sydney. Cutie pie.

I picked up DD from her dad once as she was finishing off a strawberry Fanta.
Within 30 minutes her behavior wasn't bad, but she broke out in hives all over. I had to dose her with Benadryl when we got home. Since then I won't let her have anything with large concentrated doses of red dye (Hi C fruit punch, etc). She manages smaller amounts just fine.

My older daughter definitely has a strong digestive reaction to a lot of red dye. Red koolaid or red velvet cake come right up again. She knows to avoid those things. I hadn't really considered whether there might be a behavioral reaction as well. She still eats things with small amounts of red dye (jelly beans where some are red, for example). That would explain ... a lot, actually. Yeah, my husband and his son have a very strong reaction to any amount of red #40. They projectile vomit if they consume any of it. My son has adhd and I had heard of a possible link to behavioral issues, so we just avoid anything with red dyes in our house. Wow, I've never heard of anyone else's child having this issue with red dye until now. My 23 yo dd reacts the same way and boy, did it take a while for me to figure it out. Her doctors and nurses used to look at me like I was crazy, but I knew that's what it was. It leaves out many medicines, too, so that was hard to deal with, especially since she had difficulty swollowing pills for such a long time. She's never had a behavioral problem with it though.

They're a handful, but I adore them. IMG_9039 by magz811, on Flickr
