Here is my current random stripes blanket. I hope to be done in a month. I did this one all single crochet, so it is taking a bit longer. . View AttachmentBeautiful colors. I need to make a girly baby blanket and these links and greens inspire me.

Is the shawl pictured on the cover of the book the same pattern that you made? I'm sitting here analyzing it row by row because I like yours better. The colors are a bit different, too, did you change colors? I used a different yarn to the one recommended, mine was a cotton instead of wool. I also changed some of the stitches as I could not for the life of me do a decent puff stitch so I just did clusters instead. You can actually get the pattern free here Shawl pattern

Did you weave in the ends on all of the centers before crocheting the next round? I did. initially I crotched over each end with the next row for a few stitches, and then I finished it with the needle...but yes, I did them all as I was going. At the end though I had all the final ends from 144 squares and 22 ends from the joining rows and I had to do them all as the final step. Where did you find the pattern to crochet them together??? TIA. I already posted the link, check back a page or two

I think I'll try your method next time. Thanks!

I'm using the leftover yarn from dd's afghan and making a lap blanket. I'm SO tired of this yarn!! I ordered the yarn for the Cosy Stripe blanket that jennyap is making! This is very pretty. What is the pattern called? TIA. I'll post a link when I'm home. It's 2 double crochet, chain 2, one single crochet... Very easy and mindless.

Wow, pjaye, stunning! What joining method did you use to join your squares? I used the method shown on this page HERE I really like the extra texture it gives.
@dknitter those socks are gorgeous! I wouldn't want to wear them in case I wore them out. They are little works of art and so detailed. Thanks pjaye for the link. Your blanket is gorgeous! I love the colors you used.

Have you all seen the other Crochet-along from Marinke/Wink? Sadly this was the lady who suffered from depression and took her own life last year. They are making a blanket in her honour and if you buy one of the kits, then part of the money is donated to a mental health charity. There's a blog post HERE Kits are available from wool warehouse Here (there's a basic kit in acrylic and a luxury kit in merino) and they come in 3 different colour ways, they are all the same pattern, just different colours. There's also a FB page for the CAL HERE
I love the colours in the last one 'Last Dance in the Rain'...although I'd probably substitute the aqua blues for mauve/lilac shades. I'm so tempted to do this...but there's too many blankets I love and I don't have enough house to accommodate them.
For those who don't know how a CAL works there's no pattern yet, you have to wait until the 20th and it will be released in stages and everyone crochets the first block over a couple of weeks and then the next part is released.

The pattern isn't really my taste, but I'm very tempted to participate and then donate the blanket to the same cause. What a nice gesture.

Well I finished my granny square afghan/blanket (never know what to call it)...and it's now hanging over the back of my sofa and that cat is definitely enjoying it! Amazingly Angelique managed to stay off it while I took these photos:
I'm really happy with how it turned out and it was a good project to get my crochet skills back up. I really like the look of crocheting the squares together rather than sewing then, I think it's a nicer effect...not my idea, I found it while looking for inspiration online and decided to use it.
Now that's finished I've made a start on my Attic 24 ripple afghan - I'll take a photo tomorrow. I've done 7 colours so far and I really like using the Stylecraft yarn. I know lainey mentioned having "squeaking" issues, but it hasn't happened to me so far.
Great to see everyone's work! AMAZING!!!!

And an hour later I've read a good portion of Wink's blog (bless her, she seemed like such a sweet soul), and pjaye I got a big kick out of her "yarnagers" process updates. Made me think of all 144 of your squares. Too cute!

But...I just came across this random stripes generator & thought I'd share. I can't wait to start another blanket! So many possibilities. I spent an hour just putting color combos together. Wow, I love the random stripe generator - I think that I could play with this for hours :-) Thanks for the link. x

It makes you really aware of just how all encompassing depression can be.

craftsbycarolyn ...here's the link to the pattern. It's the first one listed. ETA: sorry the link doesn't work...here's the pattern...I adjust the chain length as needed. Prayer Shawl Crochet Directions Prayer Shawl Ministry Crochet patterns by Kathy Knox. Stitch Guide 1. Crocheted Prayer Shawl Same pattern used for all sizes - it is worked in multiples of 3 + 1 so you can adjust the number of chains to suit your taste and your tension. You will probably need anywhere from 3 to 5 skeins of yarn as crochet uses more yarn per stitch than knitting does. Approximate finished sizes are 24"-36" wide and with fringe are about 6 feet long. Worsted - 24" shawl, chain 61 (use hook size "J" or "K") Worsted - 36" shawl, chain 91 (use hook size "J" or "K") Homespun/Chunky - 24" shawl, chain 46 (use hook size "N") Homespun/Chunky - 36" shawl, chain 61 (use hook size "N") Row 1: (dc, ch 2, sc) in fourth ch from hook, * skip next 2 chs, (2dc, ch 2 sc) in the next ch. Repeat from * across. Row 2: ch 2, turn. (dc, ch 2, sc) in first ch 2 sp. (2 dc, ch 2, sc) in each ch 2 space across. Repeat row 2 until you have about 1/2 a skein of yarn left. Do not finish off. Last row: Ch 2, turn, *sc in first ch 2 sp, ch 2. Repeat from * across & end with a sc. Finish off.

craftygardenmom, I have to laugh. I went to Ravlery to buy Holden after seeing your picture and found that I had already purchased the pattern in 2013! After I finish the two blankets I'm working on, I'll dive into that!

Since I have completed most of Lily Pond and my gauge was the same as Janie Crowfoot's, I assumed that I would be able to use her recommended hooks on Frida's Flowers and didn't do my test swatches - bad me! Evidently the Stylecraft Life DK works up at a very different gauge than the Stylecraft Classic Cotton the pattern was developed with. The first block I made ended up being over an inch too small. So, I went up a hook size and tried again. This time is was 3/4" too small. I then went up another hook size - so a full 1 mm larger for all three hooks - and ended up with a block that was only 1/4" under gauge. Since all the blocks of this blanket are the same size - unlike Lily Pond - I'm going to live with it being a little smaller, as I wouldn't like the fabric any looser. So, here is block 1 - 3 more full blocks and 4 half blocks to go. It should go a little quicker now that I don't have to keep ripping out. I can't wait to see your progress!

OFFICIAL CCC SOCIAL GROUP Seriously, some of the most inspiration I've seen.... besides this thread of course! Thanks for mentioning this - I just joined & looking forward to seeing more crochety goodness!
I just unravelled about 2 hours worth of work on my ripple blanket. I made an error in one row and didn't notice it until the next row, where I was able to correct the count, and was going to leave it as it was no big deal, did another two rows and then noticed I'd made the same error in the next row as well...so now I had two mistakes in 4 rows, was trying to talk myself into leaving it and crocheted another row...but it was still bugging me so I pulled out all 5 rows!
Once I know I've made a mistake I have a hard time leaving it...one I can deal with but two close together is too many. The trouble is I always try to convince myself to "leave it" and I keep going, so by the time I decide to unravel, I have even more to do!. How does everyone else deal with small errors in their work?

I rip too, my mistake would stand out like a neon sign if I left it!! It stands out to me too BUT I keep thinking that this is a blanket for my bed...surely no-one who is in my bed will be looking that closely and saying "Hmmm I see you did a extra tr2tog in that pink row" If they are...then I've got bigger issues to deal with!

I rip too, my mistake would stand out like a neon sign if I left it!! I always frog my mistakes too, they seem to be all I can focus on if I leave them. I figure the time it takes to pull back and redo is worth it to be happy with my work.
