if you ladies want some true amazement.... you should join this group on Facebook. Every single day Im sucked into the amazing crochet projects. OFFICIAL CCC SOCIAL GROUP Seriously, some of the most inspiration I've seen.... besides this thread of course! Thanks for mentioning this - I just joined & looking forward to seeing more crochety goodness!
I just unravelled about 2 hours worth of work on my ripple blanket. I made an error in one row and didn't notice it until the next row, where I was able to correct the count, and was going to leave it as it was no big deal, did another two rows and then noticed I'd made the same error in the next row as well...so now I had two mistakes in 4 rows, was trying to talk myself into leaving it and crocheted another row...but it was still bugging me so I pulled out all 5 rows!
Once I know I've made a mistake I have a hard time leaving it...one I can deal with but two close together is too many. The trouble is I always try to convince myself to "leave it" and I keep going, so by the time I decide to unravel, I have even more to do!. How does everyone else deal with small errors in their work?
I'm the wrong person to ask, because if I discover an error, 99 out of 100 times I will frog it and re-crochet or knit that section. Although, with knitting, sometimes you can just drop the one column of stitches over the error, fix it, and then re-knit the column with a crochet hook. I have had lots of practice, because if I know there is an error, that is ALWAYS where my eye is drawn on a piece. That said, when I do manage to force myself to leave an error, I like to tell myself the story of Greek weavers who always would purposefully make an error in their work, because Aphrodite would get angry at anyone who wove better than she, and the weavers didn't want to invite the wrath of the Gods. If they could live with tapestries with purposefully made errors, I can live with a small one in my measly work.

I am NOT an equal opportunity frogger. More often than not, if I can disguise it, it stays.

So, Block 1 of Frida's Flowers is done. It would have been done yesterday or Wednesday if I didn't have to change hook sizes twice and redo all the little center flowers each time I went up a size. Not that it would have really made a noticeable difference in the overall size, but I would know that I crocheted them using the wrong hook and that would have annoyed me to no end. I crochet and knit for the pleasure of it, and I'm usually not trying to meet a deadline, so I'd rather frog, redo, and be happy with it.

This is my current project. Baby blanket for a friend. Going great until last night. Did all this work only to realize I had messed up on the first row of the night. My upstairs project is my temperature afghan. I'm on January 3.

Started the mandala madness crochet along... this is week one... Thank for posting your gorgeousness! I had to go check out that CAL and ended up spending an hour last night putting together a kit in Stylecraft Special DK that matches the Scheepjes Rainbow kit as closely as I could -because I can't spend $200 on a blanket. I will start that when I finish at least one of the three blankets that are in progress right now.LOL! i do love the intricate work and that I'll learn some new stitches with that one. Your week 1 is beautiful!

Right, I tried posting these this morning and then my laptop died. lainey , your gorgeous shawl reminded me that I have made the Sunday Shawl in a similar colour way, but I don't think I posted it here? Here it is, anyway. Quite a simple pattern really but basic counting seemed to elude me to start with.

lainey I love everything about your wrap. Now I'm wondering if I need to buy the book you linked! Thank you and go on you know you want to Seriously though, it is a really nice book and one I can see myself dipping in to a lot. I might be just about to sit down with a cup of tea and a certain crochet book.......

jeremysgirl, I love it when a blanket is big enough to snuggle under! Those colours are lovely.

I have to say thank you for the pea recommendation on the Addi crochet hooks. I bought one and I love it so much I just ordered a second one. Anyone who hasn't tried them really should.

Your week 1 is beautiful! Yea I bit on that one, too. But since I just bought the lily pond yarn, I couldn't justify another purchase so between my friend & I we were able to come up with enough "close-enough" super saver to get away with it. We were going out of town for the weekend so stopped at her house on the way and I had half a yarn store in my lap trying to figure out colors. My van looks like a yarn shop threw up in it lol.
THEN I read the instructions for week 1. I'm still going to try it, but am awfully glad I didn't spend any money.

There was a thread last week (don't think it's this one) that mentioned a guy youtuber who teaches crochet. Can anyone tell me his name or the name of his channel? Is it Kevin something? I searched NSBR and can't find it. A youtube search brought up "ah crochet" is that it?

How does everyone else deal with small errors in their work?
If it isn't much to rip out, I do it. If it would involve a lot of time to redo and I can easily fix it with just adding an extra stitch or omitting one, that's what I do.

I bought an Addi swing hook but I'm finding the shape of it really hard to get used to. Prior to that I'd bought the Clover hook (the one in gold) and it has one small problem for me in that the handle is too short and it sits right in the crease of my palm near my little finger...I think I'm going to get a callus there! Apart from that I'm finding the Clover hook the best to actually crochet with. Now I'm thinking about how to make the end of the handle longer...but haven't come up with a solution as yet.
I think the mandalas look intriguing and I'm tempted to try one, but then what to do with it? I don't want to end up looking like I live in granny's crafty cottage so there's only so much crocheting one can do and have around the house. Once I've finished my next afghan, I'll be making doggie coats to donate.

Does the Mandala Madness turn out to be a blanket in the end? It looks really beautiful but a little tricky.

I was at JoAnn's the other day buying yarn and while I was waiting in line I was looking at magazines. I really want to make this cardigan but I have never made anything other than blankets. I think I'm going to order the yarn for this one and give it a try.

Does the Mandala Madness turn out to be a blanket in the end? It looks really beautiful but a little tricky. Yes, it is a circular blanket between 60-75" in diameter depending on the yarn you use and your gauge. Each week builds on the previous week's work, so it grows as the weeks go by, unlike typical CAL which have you do one type of block each week and then you stitch/crochet them all together at the end.

Here is the link to the Mandala Madness CAL
If you look closely, you'll notice that week 2 just adds on to week 1's shape, and then week 3 adds on to week 2's round, and then week 4 adds on to week 3's. Each week just builds onto the week before. I think what may be confusing is that there are three different yarn packs which use different color schemes. They alternate between yarn packs for the different samples, so it may look like different blocks, but it is really just building on the previous yarn of the yarn pack you are using. if you look at the samples, you can see that week 1 is the actual center of week 4's sample.

Thanks elaine, that looks wonderful. I can't wait to see your progress on this. It would be hard to decide on a yarn pack as each gives a nicely different look.

I just started the Cosy Blanket for a friend's daughter that is due in July. The one I was working on is for a girl, and we found out she is having a boy. So, had to change things up. The only thing is her nursery color is a very difficult dark teal/green. Almost an evergreen but with a hint of teal. So hard to match so I am doing the entire blanket in off white then will find a "sort of suitable match" to the teal to do the border. I sure hope it will look okay. Sad I can't use a bunch of different colors.

I would go ahead and make a multicolored blanket, being sure to use an evergreen and a teal as two of the stripes. I've found that most of the baby blankets I've crocheted spend a lot of time out of the bedroom and in the stroller/car seat with the baby. Something bright that won't show dirt and stains too much would probably work great!

I have a HUGE stash at home and wanted to be able to use it but nothing seems like it will work right. I may have to look again more closely today. I am only about 7 rows in so not to late to add colors.

Okay, found the PERFECT colors at Hobby Lobby (their I Love This Yarn). So excited. I will keep what I have done and just start adding colors now with a bit of the off white.
