Having lost my own mom, I know the pain. And the subsequent aches of not being able to call her with good news, discuss problems, hear her laugh, eat her great cooking and a million other little--but oh, so important--things. I'm so sorry!

Thank you all so much for your kind words and thoughts. She really was a great mom. We had our differences over the years as most mothers & daughters do. We were so very different in many ways, but alike in enough other ways. She was a talented seamstress who sewed all the clothes that we three girls wore, as well as her own. All this while working full time when most mom's didn't work outside the home. Later she turned to quilting and fabric collecting. It is the sewing/quilting/fabric collecting that we had in common. She also instilled the love of travel that has led me to live all over the world. There were very few historical road signs on our travels across the US that weren't met with "we have to stop...it's educational!" I've seen and done so much thanks to her. She was big on proper manners, being kind to others, charity and good posture! And probably most important in her eyes, she was a dyed in the wool Texan - 6th generation! She knew so much about the history of the state and truly loved being from and living in Texas (we also lived in 3 other states while I was growing up). Most kids hear lullabies at night. I heard "Deep in the Heart of Texas" and "Yellow Rose of Texas" as my lullabies! ![](http://stevengale.smugmug.com/Other/Peasmilies/i-v9P6jMF/0/O/laugh.gif) Yellow roses were such a favorite that my wedding bouquet was all yellow roses. It's no wonder I ended up settling in Texas. I was brainwashed from an early age! ![](http://stevengale.smugmug.com/Other/Peasmilies/i-Xj7gwRF/0/O/wink.gif) If you've read this far, thank you for letting me share some of my good memories. This place has come to be such a part of my life and I truly do appreciate all your condolences and well wishes. ![](http://stevengale.smugmug.com/Other/Peasmilies/i-DMBsrcW/0/O/love.gif) Thank you.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's hard. My dad's loss was really hard--he was my "mom".
Thanks for the PSA. My grandfather smoked and had horrible health. My MIL has COPD, but hers is from living in West Virginia in a mining town/father was a miner and had black lung. She now has a TB like disease (not contagious) called MAC.
What I find so hard to believe is all the actors that still smoke in movies--really smoke, not fake cigarettes. I even saw an ad for a Dior lipgloss where the model was holding the thin lipgloss tube--long and black like a cigarette up to her mouth. WHY is this still show as cool?

Hugs to you - I lost my mom to lung cancer just a little over a year ago, It isn't fun and the first year is hard - I would recommend you go to grief counseling. HUGS again
