We are currently renovating our 2 bathrooms (it's been a long drawn out process!). We decided on subway tiles in the showers. En suite: one shower wall in green and the other 2 shower walls in white Main bathroom: all 3 shower walls in charcoal The rest of the bathrooms walls are tiled in big white tiles In the en suite we used white grout and we love it - it really makes the tiles pop (for want of a better word!). We were going to do the grout in the main bathroom (charcoal tiles) in white as well, but the tiler has suggested a charcoal grout. I'm 90% certain that I want to stick with our original idea of white grout but I thought I'd Ask the Peas. FYI, I am not concerned about how much easier it will be to clean the white grout Vs the charcoal grout so that is not going to sway me one way or the other. Here are some photos of the completed en suite shower and the tiled-but-not-yet-grouted main bathroom shower - you'll have to imagine charcoal grout. What do you think would look better - white or charcoal grout? I need to decide tonight because the grouting will be done tomorrow. Oh, and nothing to do with tiles, but because DSO thinks he's hilarious : (I'd like to point out that we have not yet finished tiling or plastering or painting the in en suite, and the fly screen on the window is filthy with plaster dust. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!)

I just found a photo I took at the bathroom showroom that has the exact same charcoal tiles. They've used a white grout too:

I think white. The gray will make the space too dark.

I vote white! It really is a nice complement to the grey. Also, with such a small enclosure, I would think a solid grey wall would only make the shower stall appear and feel smaller.

<<<Totally biased against light colored tile because the gene that is required to know how to clean the stuff skipped me and I am always standing in my bathroom screaming that I can't get the grout clean on the bathroom floor. But, I do like the look of the light grout with the dark tile in the photo you posted. I would adore it in someone else's house where I wasn't the one responsible for keeping it clean. (I bet you and your husband laugh a lot... )

White or a ver light gray. Light as in white with a hint of grey.

OK good, it's unanimous - white grout it is! I agree with those who said it will make the shower stall look/feel smaller if it's all dark. I mean, it's small anyway! Thanks for the feedback.

Of course I disagree!
I would go darker. I wanted to go with the dark grout on my light/mid grey tiles but I failed to notice when I bought my tiles that the actual tile already had a lighter edge, therefore the tiler convinced me it would look bad to have the light edge and then a dark grout in the middle. I really like dark grout through, and yes, I totally take cleaning into account, especially after I spilled red wine on my white grout and had to scrub it with Milton's and a nail brush.
The look bigger/smaller thing never sways me...no matter what colour it is it will still actually be the *same* size, it's a shower there's no real point in pretending it is any size other than what it is.

I just did the tub in my master bath (well, it's still going on...... ) I have grey/white marbled tile, some are darker than others - and went with a light gray grout color - it looks white next to the tile - the pop factor - but not so white that it will drive me nuts to clean it. Seal. Seal. Seal.

Love the look in the example photo you posted. The grout there looks like it matches the floor grout. What color floor grout will you be using?

We have white grout in our bathroom. I don't find it difficult to keep the shower walls clean. It's white grout on the floors that drive me batty.
I vote white.

I would use 1/8" spacers rather than the 1/4" spacers. A tighter fit between the titles doesn't show as much grout.

I vote for white grout - especially after seeing the white tile on the surrounding walls.

White or light grey. It's going to look beautiful. I love the green tile in the other shower.

I was totally going to say white, especially with the showroom example but also like the darker grout pjaye posted, I was thinking it would be the same colour but the darker gives contrast. I think whatever you go with will look fab, I love the subway tiles.

Of course you do LOL! Actually, I like the look of the grout in the photo you posted. I was picturing grout the same colour - or slightly lighter - than the tile. The darker grout looks great. However.... too late, it's white! I have grey/white marbled tile, some are darker than others - and went with a light gray grout color - it looks white next to the tile - the pop factor - but not so white that it will drive me nuts to clean it. Seal. Seal. Seal. Yes we have bought a really good sealer. I hope it works well! Love the look in the example photo you posted. The grout there looks like it matches the floor grout. What color floor grout will you be using? White for the floor as well. Probably should have gone a light grey but too late now! I would use 1/8" spacers rather than the 1/4" spacers. A tighter fit between the titles doesn't show as much grout. DSO did the tiling in the en suite and he used bigger spacers than the tiler did in the main bathroom. I like the look of the bigger grout lines against the green but I'm glad the tiler used smaller spacers for the charcoal tiles. Anyway, whatever colour we use it's going to be a MASSIVE improvement on the ugly 30yo bathroom that we had! Off white floral tiles with peach sinks and bath.

White or a very pale grey if the white of that brand of grout is a stark white... Definitely contrast though...

Also, more narrow grout lines need unsanded grout which doesn't hold up as well in showers so the larger gap and sanded grout is a more durable choice... It's the 'norm' for showers too, so it's not like it will see off...
