Really? Unless you lived with him 24/7. You have no idea what he didn't or didn't do. Just because you like someone famous and listen to their music does not mean you have any idea of what they do in their private lives. Take Michael Jackson, prior to his death I would have said that no-one would ever use a diprivan infusion to sleep every night and no doctor would ever administer it...yep now we know differently. He was obviously a very private person for much of his life apart from his musical career you never really heard much about him. Prince more than most famous musicians seems to have been able to keep his private life very private for the most part. Ok. if he did OD in IL, and taken to emergency. WHY was he alone last night? Why was he ALONE in an elevator? and died? I'm answering in general terms...I have no idea either if this is true for Prince or not. A drug overdose doesn't always mean recreational drug use, he may have been on a drug for a legitimate reason and accidentally took too much. It could have been any number of things, heart medication etc, lots of people mix up their pills and take too much of something accidentally and occasionally need treatment as a result. If it was recreational/opiate drug use then lots of addicts/users (again, general terms, not referring to Prince specifically) OD and get a shot of narcan and get up and go about their daily business. If drugs were a part of his life and people close to him were aware, a quick hospital trip for some narcan (naloxone) isn't a huge deal in those sort of circles. We have had some trial injecting rooms here in Aus. and narcan is available if it is needed and it is used quite a lot in those circumstances. Plus in some places police carry narcan and there is also a program where peers can get narcan training and carry a kit so they can give it to their friends when they accidentally OD. If they thought he was deliberately trying to kill himself then they probably would have been more cautious, but if it was an accidental OD then users see this as part of taking drugs and to them it's just par for the course and isn't as significant as it seems to us non drug users.

Just because you like someone famous and listen to their music does not mean you have any idea of what they do in their private lives. Wait really? I had no idea that's how it worked.

I'm bummed. I've always enjoyed his music and remember how excited I was as a child when I bought a Prince tape to listen to.
Several years ago I was flying to Seattle and seemingly had a cursed flight. Multiple delays, mechanical problems, etc. I had a few chances to get off the plane but decided to stick it out. At the last possible moment before take off a band came on board. A man sat down next to me and my jaw just dropped. He looked exactly like Prince! We had some great conversation before departing the plane and part of me always wondered if maybe it actually WAS Prince lol.

So sad, seeing reports now that just days before he died, the emergency stop in Moline/Quad cities was to receive treatment for a drug overdose . What are your sources for this information? Reputable souces or the internet? I got the inital news of this sudden & tragic death from a very reputable source, BellMedia, who is your source? It came across our local news. They have yet to say if it was recreational or an Rx, stated that he was given "a powerful dose of a drug used to counteract opiates". Heck if I were to quote the Internet, there is a group stating/surmising that Prince's death was a satanic ritual/offering because the music industry is run by scary people!

No, I don't remember him being really small. He did have a weird looking white guitar as his carry on though!

Prince was a really small man, 5'2" and obviously very slender. But I think you should forever remember your encounter as really being him because that's a nice memory!

I thought prince had his own plane, why would he be flying commercial and in economy? I'm sure it wasn't him, I have no doubt that Prince wouldn't be flying Alaska. It's always just been a fun little thought that ran through my mind. I do have to lol at your assumption I was in economy. Guess I don't come off as much of a first class person, eh?

What an emotional day! I live very close to Paisley Park and was there where it rained for a bit and then the most beautiful rainbow came out right over Prince's complex. It lifted the spirits of people, really a wonderful sight. So many news trucks from all over, they will close Audobon Road for a few days as the crowds keep coming. So much love for Prince!

Regarding drug use, Prince himself said he did not do drugs. Of course, it is up to the individual to believe or not believe him. I choose to believe he did not do drugs, until we hear otherwise. But I will still be saddened by his death. Prince and drugs

Regarding drug use, Prince himself said he did not do drugs. Didn't Whitney Houston famously say "crack is whack"? I'm am not claiming I know a single thing about his drug use or not - I am claiming that unless you actually live with a person around the clock - you have no idea what they really do or don't do. What someone says publically and what someone does in private can be two totally different things. If/when they release the autopsy results and blood analysis, then we'll know.

My city mourns. It's a sad yet beautiful thing. Life is just a party and parties weren't meant to last.

I feel like my entire childhood is dying this year.I have so many Prince memories. I'm in shock.
You just put into words exactly what I've been feeling since I heard the news. My boss put it perfectly yesterday "Prince just died. We should all go home"

My city mourns. It's a sad yet beautiful thing. Life is just a party and parties weren't meant to last. We go to Minneapolis quite a bit for Emily's dance competitions. I said to my dh last night why can't this be a weekend we are there. I love your Prince reference at the end but that choked me up a little.

Rumors right now are that it was NOT recreational drugs that killed him, but Percocet he took for his cont'd hip problems. Maybe alone with some med's he was taking for the flu? a combo? others are also wondering about some other chronic health problems. He was really really thin. People are the Sat concert here in MN noted his thinness and paleness.

I am a big fan, but I am still surprised at the amount of support and love being shown this man! From cities and even from the President! I wonder how Prince would have reacted to all this, knowing his preference for privacy and quiet. I wonder if he ever knew what a big impact his music had. All the tributes just choke me up.

I also wonder if he had food issues being so thin. May have had a weak heart. Shades of Karen Carpenter. Fifty-seven is so young. He will be greatly missed.

My dad overdosed on prescription pain pills. Very very strong ones. He couldn't recall (they messed with his memory) if he had taken his last dosage or not and took more...he almost died. My sister took over rationing his medications after that and still it was an issue because sometimes he wouldn't want to take one and would hide them in his dresser...which left him with the risk of taking one when he shouldn't. He has since passed from related health issues. A former coworker of mine also nearly died but she was told to take them as needed for a degenerative spinal injury and max dosages weren't helping at all. She ended up completely unable to move from the overdose but was fully conscious of everything going on around her. It is certainly possible that it could have been prescriptions. It could have been accidental or dependency, though.
