I plan to paint one side of a metal filing cabinet with chalkboard paint. I wanted to get some chalk markers, but a lot of them say not to use with chalkboard paint, as it will leave a shadow. Others say that they remove easily from "non-porous surfaces" such as metal. Has anyone found markers that work nicely on metal? If the chalkboard paint won't work with the markers, I may just use regular black paint on the cabinet to be sure it will erase easily. These are the pens I'm looking at: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014UZ7PTY/ref=crt_ewc_title_dp_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A23ADOZFIJNPFB

I think it's the paint they leave the shadow on because the markers are wet, and it won't really matter what surface is painted with it. Dry chalk doesn't do that. We used markers like that to write on a menu board when we had our restaurant. We bought some big poster frames with plexiglass in front instead of glass, and painted the back side of the plexiglass with black paint. The chalk markers never actually touched the paint.

It's the paint itself which is porous, so no matter what you paint it on, it may be a problem. We have a chalk wall at the shop that we never use chalk markers on. I have an easel that came with a chalkboard on it and we use the chalk markers on that. If I leave a sign up too long, it does leave a shadow that I have to really scrub to get off. We have some bins labeled with chalkboard vinyl, and while the chalk markers do wipe off that fairly easy, some colors leave a shadow.
