Update 4/25: I am apologizing in advance because I am "that pea" who doesn't listen to the majority opinion on my thread. I feel ok today, shoulder is not as sore as I expected, neck is a little sore, but I am 100% functional. So here's the part where I frustrate all of you wonderful people who care about me. This could not have happened at a worse time for me. This is the week I take my local client live with their new system, and they weren't as prepared as I wanted them to be. It was non-stop crises from the time I arrived at 6:15 until I dragged myself away at 5:30. I didn't eat lunch, and I only got to pee once. For the record, these are issues that affect patient care, so not something I can put on hold. I did call the non-emergency police number last night, but had to leave a message. They called today, but I couldn't answer my phone right then, and they were closed again by the time I was able to call them back. I didn't have time to call my doctor either. I have to be back at the lab at 4:30 tomorrow morning (non-negotiable, they can't start without me), but I'm hoping that means I can get out of there before 5 (ideally 2 or 3). I have two colleagues on site, and they can handle the late afternoon. I didn't tell my customers what happened, and I won't. They need me to project calm and stability right now, and they don't need to worry that I'll be out of commission. My colleagues know and my project manager knows. So, Thank You! to everyone who posted. It really does mean a lot to me. I will keep you all updated to further developments, and I will try again tomorrow. *****OP***** I was reading at the park today under a nice shady tree. Heard a cracking sound, looked up to see a massive branch falling on me. It hit the back of my left shoulder which took some of the force away from my head. I'm reasonably sure I don't have a concussion. Keeping alert for any symptoms just in case. I have more of a small ridge than a bump on my head. My shoulder is going to hurt like an SOB tomorrow, I can already tell. Trying to upload pictures, not sure if they'll work.

ooh that's scary! So glad you are ok. ETA, make sure you tell the city what happened so they can check their trees.

Oh my goodness!! I am glad you aren't hurt. Well, you are hurt and will be hurting tomorrow but it could have been so much worse. Was it a city park or a park in your neighborhood?

Wow... you were so lucky it didn't hit you directly on the head! Hope you're not in too bad of shape once the adrenaline wears off. Maybe a good soak in a warm bath and a couple of aspirin is called for. And I'd be sure to show your photos to park officials.

Oh my gosh! I'm sorry this happened to you. What an awful way to end what seemed like a nice relaxing time at the park.

It looks, to my untrained eye, to be such a healthy looking branch. Have you had any recent storms? I'm imagining it was damaged very recently and that's why it fell.

Yikes, that's scary. I'm glad you're not seriously injured. Be careful tonight, though. Try to file a report with the police or city or whatever, in case you have injuries that are showing up yet.
When we go hiking and I hear the trees squeek I always wonder what I would do if one came down near (or on) us.

Wow, how scary! It looks like you were lucky to get away with relatively minor (although painful) injuries.

Holy crap! Given the size of that branch you got pretty lucky, hopefully you aren't too sore tomorrow.

That is really scary. I'm SO glad you're okay! Something similar happened near here a while back. A big tree limb fell off of a healthy looking tree and hit two women walking on a paved walking path, and one of them died. I'm pretty sure her family sued the city and won. Scary stuff indeed.

Thank goodness your injury is not more serious than what it is. I also believe you should file a police report. Take care and get some rest.

HOLY CRAP!! Today was your lucky day. (Because you're still alive.) Thank goodness.
You did report it to the city and then saw a doctor, right? If not, DO IT. NOW.

melanell I took a picture of the broken end. One side was kind of a weird slightly greenish color, like it had been cut there. Mostly I think it was just top heavy. It was very windy today. Didn't think of a police report. Just called my best friend to come take care of me because I was so shaken. It knocked my glasses off, so I couldn't see at first. I found them before she got there. Will call the city in the morning. Thinking about a call to my doctor just in case.

Thinking back, I was kind of in shock after it happened. I only called my friend because I wanted her to find my glasses for me. By the time she got there I realized I was too shaky to drive.
I talked to a doctor friend and I don't have concussion symptoms. DS will take me to the ER at first sign. He has instructions to wake me up periodically tonight to check.

You really should try to contact someone today. If there's no city numbers to call on the weekend with a live person, try the police non-emergency number and they can either file a report or tell you who you DO need to contact. If it's a city park, there's probably a parks department number somewhere.
And, wow! This could have been SO much worse.

Holy cow! So glad it didn't knock you out, and you seem to be "okay". Take pain meds, and relax.
Big hugs to you!

How scary! Your shoulder is going to ache in the morning Please don't hesitate to be checked for a concussion. BTDT with my son & it's far from an easy recovery. A friend's daughter suffered one when she fell off the chair during her lunch hour. Who would have thought?!
