If so what kind? And how did you get involved?
I'm trying to be more than a couch potato this year, and going to the gym won't last, so I'm trying to branch out and I'm not sure where to begin. It was a lot easier as a kid, there were clubs everywhere!
I LOVE snowboarding, and go like crazy in the winter, but I don't have a summer activity in the same way that keeps me moving.

I know with our local rec department you can ask to be put on a list if you want to play a team sport like softball, but don't have a team to join. There's usually teams looking for a few players to fill up their roster.

Since my back problems seem to have abated, I'm going to go back to cardio tennis once it moves back outside.

I used to play in a co-ed softball league with some friends. We've all gotten too busy with our kids to do that any more.
I do triathlons now. I was sitting on the computer late one night and got an email from our local Fleet Feet store advertising some upcoming training classes and I thought, "I can do that." I paid the $ and signed up.
It has been GREAT! I even reconnected with an old friend and we just picked up where we left off and I met some amazing people along the way. I hate running but love the group interaction and camaraderie.

Nothing unfortunately. I would desperately love to start playing indoor cricket again, but it's died off since the heydays of the 80's and 90's and there aren't really any women's or mixed competitions. I used to play 4 times a week, I just loved it. A lot of my SAHM friends play basketball or netball but I'm not interested in either of those.

The only organized sports I do are organized races - 10ks and half marathons. I also hike a lot with my family and friends. If I had more time I would take adult ballet classes and yoga classes. In retirement I know I will do a lot of that

I'm part of a dog club that does dog scootering and biking. It's kind of a non traditional sport but really fun and the club has been very welcome to this newbie.

I play tennis. I never picked up a racquet until about 5 years ago when I started taking lessons. I actually went to the Nationals that were held at Indian Wells for my level and came in 3rd. I play several times a week both for fun and competitively, I go to clinics and my husband has even taken it up so it's been great to have that in common.

I play soccer all year round a in a few leagues. I got into them when old teammates ask for players for their teams. This probably doesn't help because we all grew up playing soccer our whole lives. No one really just starts playing later in life too often.
Pickleball is getting popular here. Is there a league you can join. Its easy to pick up on and lots of fun.

In line hockey. Fellas at work put together a coed team and asked me to join. I knew NOTHING about hockey and had no equipment. Lol It was a great team. I was the oldest person on the team but we played in a low league and most everyone (other teams) were awesome to play with.
We haven't played in awhile as my team mates have been having new babies in their families and our work schedules have changed. Hopefully we can start up again soon.
I have also played on code softball teams. So fun. Like others I currently run in various distance races.

I took an adult ballet class last year at the studio where my daughter danced. That kicked my butt. It was HARD. Now I just run, hike, rollerblade, and practice yoga - none of those at an adult club.

Not me right now but dh is part of a co-ed softball team. It was formed by a former co-worker of his. He subbed for them last summer while he was still working for his previous company. Despite changing jobs, his former co worker asked him if he'd want a spot on the team.
I used to bowl as a teenager on a youth league. There are several adult leagues but I don't have any friends that still bowl that'd want to do it.

I run. Started with short distances then signed up to do a half marathon a few years ago so joined a club that offered group coaching. I've met lots of great friends and got fit as well. I go to the group runs on Saturdays but there are runs and classes other days as well. I've now done 2 half marathons and 6 marathons with the group

If I can finally get rid of this darn sinus infection I've had since November 2nd and get cleared from my physical therapist that my shoulder is healed enough I want to start taking yoga classes (I've never even tried it) and once it gets warm enough this summer I'm going to start swimming in the Chesapeake Bay. I much prefer swimming in natural waters vs. a pool and living in Annapolis, MD I have access to the Bay right here in my own neighborhood. But if I drive 10 minutes away there is a State Park that has a nice beach and a lifeguard on duty so I'm going to try that beach out first.
Debbie in MD.

I do Nordic walking with a local group. Energetic, fast paced walking through woods, across fields etc with a few hills thrown in to make it really hurt I got involved by a friend recommending it as her friend ran the group. And I do belly dancing - not a sport but exercise and good fun A local class held at a sports hall.

In the same boat but my work schedule is so whacked I can't do anything organized. I used to ride and race BMX which has age/gender categories. But I can't make it to the track when they are open so that's out and I just skateboard around home or hit the parks since they are open later.
Maybe mountain biking or swimming, depending on your area.

I paid the $ and signed up. Hey - me too! I participate in my local Fleet Feet training programs and have made a lot of new friends that way. My first triathlon will be in June and then I will do the half marathon training program this summer. I started in the 5k training program last year and have been involved ever since. Years ago, we were on a bowling league. My work also offers several types of rec leagues - softball, golf, tennis, etc. I'm also involved with my local dog training club - teaching dog agility classes and training my own dogs.

I played basketball for years, but stopped once I was pregnant (tried to go back to it but had some Achilles problems and put it aside). I played in a league at a local gym. Many of these leagues though are for people who have some experience with the sport.
I would look into classes at a local gym (I love Zumba and the yoga/pilates class) or a local meetup group that goes walking/running/hiking, etc. I've also seen various sports/fitness related classes at the local community college and continuing ed classes at a local high school. Check local FB groups for suggestions/ideas or start up your own.

I dance. Classical ballet 2x a week and a Jazz class. Right now we are in recital season so I have 6hrs of class/rehearsal a week.
DH did coed indoor volleyball for about 10 years at one point he was in 2 leagues. Then he did soccer. Now he does crossfit about 5 days a week.

I was involved in roller derby for a number of years (mostly as a coach but I skated at practices); I just left about a month ago. I got involved because it looked like fun.
I love derby and recommend it to everyone!!

I love derby and recommend it to everyone!! I've been thinking about roller derby recently but I'm not sure how to even get started. Seems like it would be a really great stress reliever! I took up figure skating a little over a year ago. There's a pretty active adult skating community here. I really surprised myself and am now doing waltz jumps and toe loops!

Just find a league local to you and send them a message! Or better yet head to a game and talk to some folks there! Most leagues have recruiting sessions a few times a year-- and if you're not sure about skating there's always a need for NSOs (non-skating officials).

I started line dancing in January but had to stop when I hurt my knee (unrelated). I hope to get back to it. It was at a dedicated country club (even here in Southern CA) so it only did country dancing. Such fun. I checked their dance schedule and then looked on Youtube for practicing. Great exercise and friendly people.

DH grew up surfing and taught me when we started dating. Before we had kids, we'd go at least 5x a week for hours at a time. When our oldest reached school age, we moved to a suburb about 45 minutes from the beach, I started nursing school while bartending at night full time and DH continued working I a restaurant as well, so trips to the beach became few and far between. DH's knee has been injured, it was just replaced a few months ago so we are hoping that his summer we will get back on our boards. The surfing community here is strong and close knit and we hate that circumstances forced us to quit surfing regularly.
