My son is going to Europe this summer to be with his cousins. He doesn't have any set travel dates; I just want to find the best fare. I think I remember when you used to be able to put a date in and they'd check a few days on either side of that date to see if you could get a better deal. Flights are very expensive and he can fly whenever.
Does anyone know of a site? I tried some of the big ones - Expedia, Vayama, Kayak and I didn't see anything on there. Thanks!

Buying direct from the airline is generally cheaper, in my experience, than going with third party. Not to mention, it's easier to deal with the hassles of changes if you have to do that.
Most sites will give you a range of dates, some even with the option of "my dates are flexible". I recommend flying midweek for the best rates. Also, holidays like Christmas can offer lower rates as well.

I don't know about how to find flexible dates for international flights. However, I do recommend checking daily.
My daughter is flying to Germany this summer for 10 days with her soccer team. We are each responsible for booking our own flights. (My hubby is going as well).
We had been watching flights and they were continually $1700-$1800 round trip. Then one day, they were just over $1000 each round trip. We snapped them up. Next day, back up to original prices.

I like this site. It lets you enter a date, and search 30 days out from there. It checks most major airlines and shows the cheapest fare. You don't buy your tickets here, but go to that airlines site.

kayak lets you do this just indicate your dates are flexible and it will check +/- days (underneath the search button there is a drop down to show flexible dates)

Google flights. And their Explore Destinations option lets you look at all major countries in Europe (or other regions) at one time. So you can see if it's cheaper to fly into Amsterdam vs London for example b
