I suffer from depression. I am having one of those days. You know the ones.
I have my list of things to do when I am in a dark mood, and it includes things like listening to a playlist, watching a favorite movie, walking around the mall, etc.
I'd like to add to it. What are some of the things that you do when you are feeling so blah? TIA

I know this probably sounds stupid but I put on the Grateful Dead and force myself to sing along. I find it nearly impossible to stew in my own depression when I listen to them.

1. Doing something nice for someone else (RAK, or unexpected giving, etc) and 2. exercise....these always make me feel better within a pretty short time.

Volunteer for a cause I believe in and enjoy.
Do real random acts of kindness anywhere I can find them
Spend time with a friend and listen to them
Hold puppies
Hold babies
Write ( once I wrote a crappy 'novel' lol )
Take pictures of things that speak to me, usually drive around until something does 'speak to me'
Draw
Paint

Do something nice for somebody else. Write down three things that I have to be grateful for in that day. Listen to baby laughter.

My favorite song for putting myself in a good mood is Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves. I double dog dare you to listen to that song and not be happy!

I listen to goofy songs by They Might Be Giants or rollicking ones by Great Big Sea.
I chase my dog around the house until he runs around crazily without my prompting and comes to check on me repeatedly with a big smile and his tongue hanging out.
I also try to take my dog for a long walk and find some nice nature to enjoy and breathe fresh air in deeply.

Coffee (fancy, from Starbucks is best!) Meeting a friend there is extra-helpful. Funny movies or sitcoms on DVD. Sitcoms are good because they're short doses, don't take much time. Music--I like classical music from my local public radio station, or else something I know well and can sing along with from my collection. Fresh air--I go out on the porch and breathe deep for a while. Friends--if you can reach out, it helps. Isolation just makes it all so much worse.
Hang in there, I know it's rough. Be sure you're taking your meds right on time, too.

I go to one of my favorite trails with my girls and dogs and walk and talk and take silly pictures. Being outside, exercising - huge help with my mood and reducing stress.

There's a few things I do, it depends on what type of funk I am in. If it's a pissed off bad dreary mood, I watch horror movies back to back. It's kind of like reverse depression. If I'm just kinda bummed, got some sucky news, then a mani pedi and a good drink can help. If I'm getting full on funk depressed, usually for no obvious reason, I wallow in it for about a day then force myself to watch happy feel good mushy movies, look at puppy pics on Instagram. You know all the super cheesy stuff.

I do lots of things but the one thing that works every time? I challenge my God-kids to a silly face contest. They're 8 and soon-to-be 6.

Walking the dogs. Time spent with them calms me down and clears my head. I just can't stay angry or sad when I see how much they enjoy life.

In no particular order, I try one of these things (some times more than one). And some days nothing works. Then I allow myself o go nap or not get out of bed. Lately though when I am in those kind of moods, I text my best friend and she will say/do something to cheer me up and get me out . -Work Out. I am a big fan of fitness blender.com videos (started on them last year). I have different playlists that I made for me. The one thing that works is a strength training video of 30 minutes - Watch Friends - Watch West Wing - season 1 - Sing - Go for a drive with music on loud and singing in the car - Call my girl friend and go out to a nice place for dinner so I will be forced to dress up. - Nordstrom Rack - 2peas refugees NSBR browsing...I swear it works

I go for a drive somewhere, usually to the beach (in any season). If I can't do that then I do internet window shopping (add things to my cart but don't actually buy them). Or if they're around, I try to play with my family or friends' young kids.

I book a SW flight, and go to Disneyland, by myself, for the day. When that's not possible, I scrapbook happy memories. There are days, I just stay in bed and watch Real Housewives shows, and I'm fine with doing it.

Mindfulness.
I associate my depressed moods when I'm missing or regret the past. So when I do things to bring me back to the present I feel better.

If I am upset or hurt by someone, I buy myself flowers and a couple magazines. If I am depressed I either sleep and watch TV which only makes me feel worse or I get in my car and just drive!! I have done this a couple times in the past month and it is so helpful to get out of the house, listen to the radio and look at the beautiful fields and hills and trees and flowers coming to life. If I am anxious and can not go for a drive, I do online jigsaw puzzles. Someone recommended them here and I love them.

I would NEVER have said this a year ago, but -- exercise. I find that it is fantastic for bringing me out of a bad mood, and also for relieving stress.

Turn off all screens -- it's too easy for me to wallow with them on. I have to get up, go outside, play with the dog, get some exercise, do something in the sunshine, laugh at my cats, meet a friend -- something that gets me outside of my own head.

This sounds super trivial, but Cake Wrecks!. Some of them are SO FUNNY! I've never gone to that site without having tears streaming out of my eyes by the time I'm done from laughing so hard. It's almost like exercise LOL!

Walk on the beach, preferably off season when it's fairly empty. Nothing like the sound and smell of the ocean!
