i can't say I'm a huge fan of the show (or Kelly especially) so I'm not sure why I've been caught up in the drama of the last week. I do think that if its true that they sprung the news on her at the same time it was released to the public, that's pretty uncool.
So so they've just walked out, and Kelly has stepped forward to speak. Going to pay attention now...

Kelly handled it in a very gracious way this morning. I don't watch the show on a regular basis but I happened to be watching this morning.

I can't listen to the video at work, can you tell me what she said? Here is me quickly sort of transcribing as she was talking: honestly thank you for welcoming me back to the show. the show of support is overwhelming. half of you called in sick to be here, so we get each other. i gained perspective. started a greater conversation about communication and respect in the workplace. not just a workplace a second home. a team, devoted. apologizes have been made. parent company has assured me Live is a priority. commitment to the show and viewers. thrilled for micheal. tremendous opportunity. thrilled for you. back to the show. lets get back to the show.

I can't listen to the video at work, can you tell me what she said? They came out together as usual, then she stepped to the side to speak. After an extended period of clapping, she urged everyone to be seated and then quipped, "Our long national nightmare is over". She said that she appreciated everyone giving her a few days to collect her thoughts because she felt that after 26 years with the company, she felt she'd earned the right (she also made a joke about calling in sick). She said the events had created a discussion about communication and consideration and respect in the workplace. She added that she didn't even consider it a workplace so much as a family. Kudos were given to the crew. She said apologies had been made, and best of all, their parent company had assured her that Live was still a priority. She spoke to Michael and said how thrilled she was for him.

I did find her one comment pretty telling when she said something like, "I'm pretty sure there are trained snipers nearby in case I go too far off topic".
So she got her digs in.

I watched. I was so happy that she had previously planned to have Monday off. I had to have my first colonoscopy and I was more bummed that I was going to miss her return after a few days off so today work out much better. As evidence with my posts in the thread when it first happened I like Kelly and I think she had reason to be upset. I have also seen people at my work take "sick days" for a lot less and their job wasn't trying to entertain millions of people live... I think think that she was gracious and meant much of what she said, but I think that her joke about the people with dart guns making sure she didn't vary too far off script was also indication that some of it was just required by upper management. I also think she worked very hard to make it feel natural but there was some quips here and there. I truly think she is very good at talking live and off the cuff. She is much better at it than Michael. Don't get me wrong, for the most part I like him. I think he has gotten better and more comfortable with the show but has also lost much of his original charm. It is almost like he tries too hard. It just seem to come natural to Kelly and not as contrived.

I was always a fan of Regis and would dvr the show while I was at work so I could at least watch the host chat. When Kelly first started I liked her but by the time Regis left I had enough of Kelly. Haven't watched the show since.
But I did come to like Michael on GMA and would watch him on other shows that didn't have Kelly. So I'm not surprised he is going to GMA full time.
When I heard Kelly was MIA after she learned Michael was leaving the show I was not surprised about that either. She may have been blindsided by the news however her actions of stomping her feet and taking her marbles and going home to pout were not professional on any level. And if you want to be taken seriously in your chosen profession then you must appear professional even when blindsided.
She can be as pissed as hell but she should never shown it publicly. She should have made her points with her bosses privately. And her remark about after 20+ years etc.was childish.
What Kelly doesn't understand is what makes the show successful is not her. It's always been her co-hosts that are the key to the success of the show. She was the 2nd banana to Regis and while she may have thought she would step up to 1st banana when he retired it didn't happen because Michael, who may have stumbled at the beginning, has a lot of charm which IMO kept Kelly in her 2nd banana role on the show.
If they replace Michael with another strong host I think the show will continue and Kelly will continue as the 2nd banana host.

So basically she had her temper tantrum and got away with it. Nice to know the diva is strong in her. All I heard in her little message was "me me me me me me, I don't really mean what I'm saying, I was the one that was wronged, me me me me me me, everyone must bow to me, me me me me, how dare he leave for another gig what can be better than being with me me me me me, I'm just going to stamp my feet and make my opinion known, me me me me me, give me what I want dammit and now that I got it, I'm going to go back to my nice girl persona and make everyone think I really am a team player when it's obvious I'm not. Look at me me me me. I'm the most important person on the show and MY show has to be a priority to the network. It's inconceivable that anyone would think I'm anything less than the most important person on the network. Now where's my broom to rugsweep all this."
Yeah, not buying it. She's a diva and she realised that her temper tantrum didn't get what she wanted. Now she's back with her tail between her legs. Cancel the diva and the show. They can do better.

you can call it taking her marbles and going home, but I think her tantrum probably earned her some consideration by her bosses going forward.
that said, she also has a target on her back if the ratings start slipping.

I think she is a spoiled brat, and most people in the real world would be fired for throwing a temper tantrum like she did. She's paid millions to be professional.

I have watched Live since before it was Live - it was a NY area morning show hosted by Regis and Kathy Lee - he used to refer to it affectionately as a "little piece of slime show"- then it went syndicated 30 years ago. I love Regis, and for a long time loved Kathy Lee. When she left, I almost stopped watching, but after Kelly got her footing, I loved it again. His experience, wisdom and charm with her energy, enthusiasm and sparkle really worked for me. When Michael started, I had doubts - and still do; he is really good, but sometimes seems less spontaneous.
Having said that, after working 25+ years with one employer, when there is a major change in your job and your partner in doing that job, the responsible thing to do is give that employee adequate notice that change is coming. Especially in this format - live television - a bit of common courtesy and respect is expected. Because this past weekend she already had vacation plans, I'm sure this timing really sucked. She is beginning (to me) to get a bit full of herself, but I do think she has genuine affection for Michael and wishes him well.

As soon as she can break her contract, she is out of there. She makes $15 million a year and has spent a lot on her homes. I'm not sure where she would go where she could make so much money for a few hours a day. I think she will stick it out.

She's a diva and she realised that her temper tantrum didn't get what she wanted. Now she's back with her tail between her legs. Cancel the diva and the show. They can do better. I have watched the show for years and did not see it this way at all. She took a day off and then went on her 20th anniversary weekend with her husband. She was hurt that she was told minutes before the public. I would have been too. She has taken one sick day in 16 years. I think she earned that day off to regroup. She said she was happy to have had the time to think through it. Her name is on the show and she does carry the show. I do love Michael and am sad to see him go, but Kelly is professional and upbeat and covers for Michael a lot. I thought it was interesting though that on today's show, the guest was talking about how long it took to put on the tattoos and Michael asked the question that the guest just answered. It happens at least once a week and Kelly covers for him. Today she did not. I think that people that don't like her feel she threw a tantrum and the people that do like her understand why she took a day off. She is in the public eye and it was important that she not throw a tantrum. I do hope the next cohost fills Michaels shoes and I wish them both well.

I can see that some people think this way, but if a man acted like her, would we think the same way? I just wonder if she is getting hit harder for this because she is female. I think we both feel the same way about the show and co hosts, but can't help but wonder if women's behaviors' get hit harder than when a man does something similar.

Don't they usually do reruns during the summer anyway? I'm not surprised he's leaving sooner. Get the shock over with (but it's okay, I'll be around for a while longer), then speed up the departure date (well, I was going to be leaving anyway).

I would feel exactly the same if it were a man, but it's probably a moot point b/c I don't think many men would pout and take a couple of extra days (I understand she had vacation plans for Friday-Monday) out of work when given disappointing and hurtful news. That's not reality in corporate America, and it certainly doesn't help women. As far as your previous comment, I don't dislike her or like him. I've probably seen their show 5 or less times ever. I'm looking at it from a business/corporate standpoint, which the network that made this decision certainly is!

I am not normally home when their show is on but I was this morning and watched the first 5 minutes to see what she would say. I thought her voice was a little shaky (like she could cry if she allowed herself) but she was so professional and classy. She handled it so well and I was proud of her. She made good points about the "professional courtesy and respect".
I'm glad she faced it and can move on now and hopefully get a new co-host that she really loves.
