Well, my DH used to work road construction long before he met me. He worked for a company that went out of business so he went back to school to become a nurse and an EMT. He worked as a nurse for the past five years, completed his EMT program and now has worked as an EMT for the past five months or so. Well, out of the blue, someone he used to work with on the road crew who now works for a different employer, called him to ask if he wanted a job. He really did not mind the road work and only retrained himself due to his former company going under. So he took the job. He starts on Monday. He will make twice as much money per hour as he currently makes and that's not even figuring in the overtime he will get. He wasn't happy working in the medical field so this is a good change for him.
My DS who was recently diagnosed as having bipolar disorder is on a new medicine. It seems to be working. His mood is so much improved over the past two weeks. I have not had any trouble getting him up for school in the morning. He is making an effort when he's at school. And his personality seems to be coming back. We even had a few laughs together yesterday. I feel like I am getting my son back.
Please share some good news with me!

I went in for a 6 week post-op follow up appointment and had x-rays today, and my foot is healing nicely. I go back in two more weeks, and will probably be able to wear tennis shoes on BOTH feet at that point! It will be great giving my orthotic shoe THE BOOT!

My scale is being weird. It's fluctuating by about 10 lbs by my estimate. I weighed at the dr office today, and while it seems that the higher number is the correct number I'm down 80 pounds!!!

OMGosh! That is wonderful! I lost 80 pounds five years ago and I know how much blood, sweat, and tears went into it. You should be really proud of yourself!

It's hard because I can see a difference in photos but it's hard to tell by looking in the mirror. I've gone from a size 20 (almost needed a 22) to a 12-14 now. Sort of hovering between a medium and a large. I feel awesome though, no matter how I think I look.

I kept buying clothing that was much too big for me for the longest time. I couldn't "see" it either. I have one photo from my heaviest point and I sometimes look back at that photo just to remind myself of where I've been. Now, five years later, I can't even believe that big girl was me anymore.

I write a newsletter for my kids elementary school PTA and won an award. I don't know what level (bronze, silver, probably not gold) yet since they won't tell me until the state PTA conference in May but I won something!

My son passed the NY bar exam. He took it in August, didn't do so well, and re-took it in February. He woke me up at midnight to let me know he passed! I'm a bit tired, but very relieved - and proud.

I'm delighting in helping my daughter paint her room a bunch of crazy colors. We've lived in beige rental world for far too long, and it makes me happy to see her so thrilled at having color everywhere in HER room. Now she wants to paint the front door, but I told her that would have to wait until after we finish moving in. Sounds like a good summer vacation project for her.

We got an invitation to a reception next week celebrating scholarship recipients. Dd applied but we don't know how much her scholarship amount is. If it will buy her books, then I will be thrilled!

Our 3 adult children took my DH (their Dad) on a charted sail for the weekend to celebrate his 80th birthday. They sailed from Naples, Fl and had a blast. The captain of the boat was female, and said it was her best charter ever!! It was a trip DH's will never forget. Time alone with his children--some things are priceless!

I entered a contest and won a free book. Not huge news but it was a great way to begin my day. Other good news = only 22 more days of school. I can smell summer around the corner.

I worked the ticket booth at the high school track meet last Friday. I took a little break and went over to the honor-stone pavement to rest and hydrate - I began to read the names and inscriptions on the pavers and lo and behold, I found a paver dedicated to me by one of my former students - he's probably 30 now and I had him in 8th grade. It does not surprise me that he kept it secret because he was a quiet, focused child who went into a military academy and then off to Afghanistan, last I heard. After the meet, I came home and immediately wrote a letter to him to thank him. Sent it to his parents' address -I hope they still live there so they can forward it.

Ds11 got 101 on his book report. He really enjoyed the book (from the Narnia series), put in so many details that it was obvious how much info he retained. And for his next (and last!!!) book report for the year he chose another book in this series.

Sure! I think it's a positive story anyway and hope it is! My 19 yo DD is coming home permanently next month from her first year at college. I've missed her and in talking to her, she sounds changed. So mature. I just hope the house remains peaceful as her last two years of high school were very challenging. She plans to work and go to the local JC in the fall which is fine by me. DH took some convincing but eventually saw that we were right (as usual...ha ha)!
She wants to try go vegan so I told her that it's up to her to handle everything related to that but otherwise I support her. DH may do it too.

My son started his senior internship today. For the last 6 weeks of school, instead of going to class they intern with a company or group in the area they want to work in. He's at the Boston Symphony Orchestra's library and loved every minute. He's helping put all the music together for their upcoming trip to Europe. He said they have scores going back to the 1800s that have lists of all the conductors who used it over the last 170 years. He can't wait to go back tomorrow.

They've figured out what's wrong with my dad who I rushed into hospital on Saturday. He's not been right for a few weeks but suddenly had terrible shortness of breath. It's little clots in his lungs, don't know why but they can be treated & further clots prevented. Heaps better than some of the possibilities we were discussing over the weekend (sudden heart failure, lung cancer etc). Phew!
Also, I've lost 7lb in 2 weeks (need to lose about 20) & ds who decided he needed to lose too in readiness for an expedition in the summer lost 6.5lb in his first week (he's bigger than me but also knows that it won't keep up at that rate). Really pleased for him.

I kind of forced my husband to confront an incredibly cruddy situation at work after he got an aggressive text demanding that he drive for 5 hours on Saturday and it made me mad that they were taking to him that way, especially on his day off, and that it frustrated him which was going to impact our day. I didn't sleep all Sunday after he made a comment that I probably got him fired. Getting fired uber the circumstances wouldn't have been a bad thing but I had guilt feeling like I'd forced him into it. He showed up Monday morning expecting drama, and he got it but it was in the form of both of the bosses his issue was with being terminated. Apparently they had been watching for a while and decided to make a move the same morning he (I) had requested a meeting so he ended up in a meeting with the bosses but they were apologising for the recent nonsense and told him how much they appreciated that he called them out and stood up for the company and himself. I'm so relieved. He's had the best week ever and loves his job again this week. Hopefully the new office staff will be better.

I was expecting to be fussed at my by endocrinologist (diabetes dr) today, but instead he was very encouraging. Talked about how I can improve, sure, but also recognized the difficulties and said he really thinks that once I get a new liver, the diabetes will either resolve or be very much improved. At this point, I'd take just a little improved, so that was good to hear.

Dh works for the Feds. He has yearly contracts so they can renew him every year based on their amount of work. He applied for another position in the office, he interviewed yesterday. He didn't get that one as they aren't sure about the position so instead they decided to make his position permanent! It's a hard job for him mentally but it can help him get through school. and in his field of legal work. The other position would not have a allowed him to finish school with hourse etc. So he was a little stressed about that. We just found out today! I haven't told anyone yet! Still waiting for Dh get home! It's a big deal!!
