DD texted me yesterday to tell me she was elected soprano section leader in one of the choirs she is in at her college. She also got nominated for female vice-president (she was surprised by that but wasn't when she didn't get it).

I start my new job on Monday! I am going to be working in the NICU at our local medical university. It's my dream job. I'm scared, there's going to be a steep learning curve; I'm excited to be working in a major hospital with wonderful benefits, also with a significant pay raise!!
I've had this week off and I've been deep cleaning, planting my succulent and tomato and herb gardens, cooking fresh meals every night and just enjoying free time until the hard work starts next week.

I have 2..... A good friend is getting married next month. The newlyweds are going on a Caribbean cruise for their honeymoon. They got an inside cabin (wanted bigger/nicer but no money). My husband and I love to cruise so we know inside cabins are awful. They're literally the size of my shoe closet with no outside view. So I contacted the cruise-line via my travel agent. They're allowing us to pay the difference to upgrade them to an oceanview balcony room!! We're also going to arrange a romance package for them. This will be part of our wedding gift to them. I can't wait to tell them. They're going to be so excited. The other happened today and was totally unexpected. I take nail supplies to the hospital where I get my chemo and do the nails of any of the girls who want it while they get their chemo. So today I was at Rite Aid and came across a super pretty pink/coral shade of polish. I grabbed most of the bottles. When I checked out the cashier commented on the number of bottles. So I told her why I was getting so many. She paused, said hang on a min and left. I was like uumm huh? But I waited, didn't have a choice. lol A few mins later she comes back with the manager. He says there was a problem with their system. He voids all the polish and re-scans them. They come up $1 each! He gives me some story that they were supposed to be on clearance so he gave me that price (eventhough they were brand new).

How sweet of you to think of Brightening someone else's day when you go for chemo and how great of the folks at Rite Aid to do that. I assume at your outpatient facility it's one open room? At ours when we did outpatient each patient had their own curtained off area so there was no opportunity like you're talking about. What an awesome surprise for your friends! They will love it.

I love reading all the positive stories!
As many peas know, I have an older horse that comes up with some random health problems all the time. He's a great horse and his problems are basically just due to age and prior neglect. For a year now I have struggled with the health of his feet. It seems like they are constantly infected with thrush, tender or having other problems. I have been extremely rigid with his foot care and finally this past weekend I have seen an improvement. He has healthy frog growth. I never thought I would see the day! I was so happy seeing actual, healthy frog I thought I might cry.

Where I go for chemo it's a big open room...nurses station, restrooms and then the patient area which is small bays with a curtain you can pull across the front for privacy if you wish. The fronts are all open and the bays are across from one another. We've discovered that there's a core group that has chemo on the same days/same times so we all talk to each other. I did my own nails one day and the lady next to me was new. Her hair had just started falling out and she was really down. She mentioned doing my nails and beauty stuff in general. I told her I wouldn't lie, loosing my hair was one of the hardest parts of chemo for me. I won't sugarcoat it, it sucks. lol But you have to do the things you can to pamper yourself, make yourself look good because then you feel better etc etc Some of the others agreed. I offered to do her nails which she loved. That's how I started doing it. So now I buy multiple bottles. This way anyone who wants can have a "fresh clean" bottle. I do use a disinfectant on the brush between people though. Also if someone really likes the colour I can just give them the bottle. I love it because it takes my mind off my own chemo and I can see how much the girls love it. We all get to forget for a moment the crap we're dealing with; so screw you cancer.

Well, my DH used to work road construction long before he met me. He worked for a company that went out of business so he went back to school to become a nurse and an EMT. He worked as a nurse for the past five years, completed his EMT program and now has worked as an EMT for the past five months or so. Well, out of the blue, someone he used to work with on the road crew who now works for a different employer, called him to ask if he wanted a job. He really did not mind the road work and only retrained himself due to his former company going under. So he took the job. He starts on Monday. He will make twice as much money per hour as he currently makes and that's not even figuring in the overtime he will get. He wasn't happy working in the medical field so this is a good change for him.
My DS who was recently diagnosed as having bipolar disorder is on a new medicine. It seems to be working. His mood is so much improved over the past two weeks. I have not had any trouble getting him up for school in the morning. He is making an effort when he's at school. And his personality seems to be coming back. We even had a few laughs together yesterday. I feel like I am getting my son back.
Please share some good news with me! You win! This is just full of SUNSHINE! Yay for You, Jeremey and DS! That is a lot of good to happen gradually but happily!!!!!

We are PCSing to Hawaii next month and we will have a house almost immediately when we get there! This is a huge relief. Oh, and I finished my last clinical rotation of nursing school today.

When I got to work yesterday I said hi to a new gal in the parking lot. We've spoken previously and she parks near me. She said hi back and then went on to tell me she thinks that I am one of the happiest people who work here. That I always have a smile on my face, that I greet everyone and she wanted to know why I was so happy. I told her that I just try to be happy every day and I've always been a smiler. I thought that was really nice of her.

justkat, the cruise upgrade is really, really generous of you. And I'm so glad that you were able to get the polish for $1 a bottle. That was a sweet deal!

Even though I'm finishing out my unpaid leave of absence from work, I was granted bereavement leave for this week. Which is paid leave.
I am so grateful to my management team. They have been extremely supportive through DB's entire illness.
