Today I splurged and bought myself a new handbag. Thank you Aldi!!! (OK...so it was only a little splurge  ). Anyway as I was putting everything from my old one into my new one I realised that it has probably been a while since I have REALLY dug down into the corners and retrieved the old lipsticks,mints and movie tickets from goodness knows when! Sooo..... how often do give yours a good spring clean. P.s. Woo hoo..... I just started my first pea-thread!!!  |

I guess never, really. I only have the essentials in there - my wallet, phone, keys, and a small leather pouch with some makeup basics. Anything else gets immediately removed.

I change purses everyday. My purse needs to match my outfit. So nothing has time to accumulate in there for me to even need to clean it out.

I switch bags every few days or more often, so it gets "cleaned out" then. But in all honesty, switching bags often helps solve the need to clean out. I keep most things in 2 little mesh bags. Then my sunglasses case and Altoids. Phone, wallet and keys (which are together on a very small wristlet) and I'm done. I keep a pen and a small pack of Kleenex in each bag.

I clean mine out when it starts to feel heavy, which means that coins and receipts/other paper are accumulating at the bottom. Yes, I still pay cash sometimes. lol

I cleaned mine out every few weeks, I guess.
I just got a new one (I only use one purse, and I wear them hard!), and it's smaller on purpose. I used to throw anything and everything in my old one - laptop, 3-ring binder, hardcover book, you name it - and I started getting tendinitis in my left hand from the way I picked it up to sling it over my shoulder. I'm hoping my new, more minimalist arrangement will never become the black hole that was my old bag!
I am in awe of people who match their purses to their outfits. I can't imagine switching the stuff out so often, and I can't imagine having that many handbags!

Every few days. I use a purse as my diaper bag so I am always having to dig in it for used bottles and toys so I just clean it out at the same time.

I shoot for once a week - on the day I run my errands. Notice I said 'shoot for'. Doesn't always happen. I'm another one who doesn't have a very big purse, so I can't accumulate very much.

It's funny because when I was doing my purge of unwanted items I found about 5 purses filled with papers and items that just got left in them when I switched purses. I found a whole archive of my life in those purses!
But now I have 2 Coach purses, a winter and a summer. When I put one away I clean it out completely.
Also through the season I get rid of receipts and wrappers and stuff.

I tend to carry handbags seasonally so maybe for two to three months per bag. And I like smaller, more compact bags. I carry minimal items and keep my bag cleaned out from loose change, random scraps of paper, and whatever else works its way in there. I'm fairly obsessive about my handbags being neat and tidy.

Ideally every few days. Receipts are my nemesis. Me too!! I have to get the receipts out and taken care of. I do not clutter at all and my purse is frequently cleaned. I do not carry a lot in it and can change purses within a few minutes when I want to use another one. I have to thank my mom for not having a lot in my purse because she carried everything and rarely cleaned hers out. It was such a mess |

I have a lot of purses and they get switched out fairly frequently. They don't really get messy. I do have about 5000 lipsticks that I have to retrieve from various purses, though. Those tend to accumulate because I wear many different shades, so I'm always throwing a new one in there.

2-3 times a week. My purse is barely large enough to carry my "essentials" and they have to go in a specific way or they don't fit. So out of place items cause issues.

Not often enough. Usually when the pile of receipts, coupons and other papers that gets stuck in there gets so thick I can't find what I'm looking for. I will say that having that pile of papers in my purse has saved me on countless occasions when I buy something and three days later the stupid thing goes on sale. I don't have to hunt around the house for the receipt to go get a price adjustment because I know it's still in my purse. And I'm another person that uses the same purse month after month, usually until it falls apart and I need something different. I *HATE* purse shopping with a passion. I'm not looking for something to make a fashion statement because I honestly couldn't care less about that. I'm looking for something purely functional and most stores don't sell what I need. I want something that will hold all of my stuff plus my iPad without being the size of a wheeled duffle bag. I got my current purse a few years ago from Duluth Trading because it fit those requirements. It's showing no signs of falling apart, but it is getting pretty faded. I was a little distressed to see that they don't sell that style anymore.  |

I found a whole archive of my life in those purses! I recently went through a huge pile of purses in my closet and pulled out all the ones I didn't want anymore. DD said something about needing a new purse, so I told her to look through my reject pile. She went through a few of them, and found old receipts and paycheck stubs in them. I try to clean my purse out every few days - especially when I have shoved a bunch of receipts or other pieces of paper in there and its driving me crazy. |

Thanks for all the replies so far Peas! I haven't learnt how to do the fancy quote thing yet ( i am such a newbie at this ) but I agree with those of you who said you keep the same purse for ages. I do to. I guess that is why I found so many forgotten treasures!!! My new bag is a yummy chocolatey brown with heaps of room... my kids and DH always ask me carry things for them when we are out and about! |

Can you show us a pic of your purse? Lord help me if I can buy purses at Aldi's, I think my DH will lock me up in the basement. lol Quoting is really easy.
