I recently accepted a FB friend request from a relative who I don't really know, a girl in her 20's. I think I might have to block her before her FB posts and spelling make my head explode. Some tidbits for you to enjoy: FFS. WTF is it with all the repeated letters? eg "lovee" and "misssss" and "waittt" ? And the random capitalisations? Every single post looks like the examples above. Every.Single. One. I'm not really an old fogey, I actually get a kick out of Millenials - they can be quite entertaining and funny and clever. But some of them....... holy crap.

I feel like a dumbass because I CAN read that. But I'm with you. Web-speak is annoying. It's become this cross between current text language and chat room language from my teen years.

Wow! I think I just had a stroke.
English isn't my native language but even I can write and spell much better than that. As you said what's up with allll the extraaaa lettersss and weird punctuation?!

Yes, I've noticed that kind of web speak is 'the thing' at the moment around things like FB and chat etc., even with older people too. It really aggravates me, it's so silly!

It would take me longer typing out a message in that way, thinking how to abbreviate things, than doing it 'long-hand' ...I guess that shows my age

I've had to hide one of my nieces and one of DH's younger cousins because their posts all look like that. Just no.

I like to type in all caps BECAUSE I AM SHOUTING THIS PART OF MY NEWS!!! And I like exclamation marks. I don't like odd spellings like 'Howzit baybee?'.

It's certainly not my thing. I fully embrace my old-lady-English-major role. I simply add it to my list of annoyances regarding erosion in the way people communicate. 1. poor grammar 2. misspelling 3. filler words (you know, ummm, so, like) 4. cutesy nicknames for everything 5. vocal fry 6. web-speak As I said... I fully embrace my "fuddyduddiness" in this regard.

That would drive me batty. I tend to overlook misspelled words simply because of fat fingers and such. If someone uses threw when they truly meant through, I get it. I have caught myself doing this numerous times. But all the made up crap? Nope, not enough time in my day to figure out the code they are using. It's not just me though, both of my geek sons hate it as well. Then again they both use proper English when the text, post and speak.

NOPE NOPE NOPE! I could not handle even seeing that on my fb feed. I would have to start posting information on English and grammar classes!

I will admit that my DH, sister, BFF and I often use our own made up pronunciations and words when texting each other one on one. Heck, DH and I can have entire conversations using only emojis! But not on social media. Can someone please help me out? I was able to translate all but the above quote. No, my little spunky new friend (did something) in my hand? Is that correct?

I have a 2nd cousin (about the same age) that types like that on FB...it drove me bonkers because I know this girl is educated and I don't know what she thinks she is trying to accomplish by writing that way.
I ended up unfollowing her on FB so I didn't have to see her posts anymore.

That makes me twitchy. I'd hide her. I know that a large number of typos & spelling errors are due to people using their phones, but that stuff in the OP---that's intentional, and it would drive me crazy.

Haha, I have a few 20-something friends and sometimes there are posts like that, not often. I just scroll on past. It's their thing, and I don't have to read it.

Oh that would drive me nuts!!
I'm a member of a cake group on Facebook, and one gal is constantly asking questions and using web-speak like that. I don't bother answering any more, because what I really want to say is "can you please ask this with proper spelling/words so I know what exactly you are asking?"
One funny thing though - DH has relatives in Scotland. We are all friends with them through Facebook. And DD and I laugh all the time, because we have to read their posts a few times occasionally to get the gist of it. They type the way they talk! So just like in person, we'd really have to pay attention to understand the accent, we have to pay attention to understand their posts!

My 18 year old niece tends to write this way - or repost things in this "language". They get hidden because it drives me nuts. Fortunately her posts don't come across my FB feed very often.
