The head of my company - large company - can't tell the difference between your and you're. He spells business "bussiness".
He wrote on his white board in his office: "These ARE the good old day's"
I CAN'T TAKE IT!

We know the difference - we just don't always proofread our posts. It's all how your brain's wired. I make phonetic typos all the time. They're glaringly obvious when I read them, but when I'm typing fast....my brain goes into some weird phonetic mode. Yesterday I typed know for no - why in the world would my brain type 3 EXTRA letters. It makes absolutely no sense.

The English language is difficult. It can be understood through tough thorough thought, though.

Maybe it's because I text my DH all the time and he's dyslexic and not very good with grammar and spelling, but these kinds of things don't usually even ping my radar. I usually try to write in a way that is easy to read and I try to use proper grammar and spelling, but I don't even notice much of the time when others don't. One thing that does stand out to me is when people use text speak. I have one friend on facebook from middle school that uses abbreviations and text speak all the time and it's hard to read for me. Just to give you an example, the other day she posted about something and instead of typing trying, she typed tryn. That's hard to figure out sometimes. Especially when it is an entire post written like that.

umm...okay
how about instead of hand slapping people
you skip over the posts of people that misspell words, don't punctuate correctly, and use wrong words
good grief - get over yourself
is it annoying? yep
is it more annoying for someone to scold members of a forum she belongs to? double yep

A former supervisor I had said "supposebly" all the time. Very nice guy, and my boss, so I never corrected him. It only made my ears bleed a little. I could handle it!

Please use capital letters where necessary. It can make all the difference as to whether you help your Uncle Jack off a horse or you help your uncle jack off a horse.

Oh, and plurals do not need an apostrophe. It seems as tho the world has gone apostrophe crazy, just throwing them in everywhere just for fun. There's a local market that has an ad in the paper weekly with prices for "tomatoe's" or "apple's". Nope, I'm not shopping there.

As long as the post is coherent, it doesn't bother me; especially on a message board. If it's for business or a class, yes pay more attention. I frequently default to "their" when "there" should be used when typing responses. I know the difference, but sometimes I mess up. Oh well. p.s. I'm quite certain I have some grammar mistakes in my post.

In proper written correspondence or official emails I promise to use correctly all of these things that seem to offend you so. Here...no guarantee or promise. Between typing on an iPad, annoying autocorrects, usually not a lot of proofreading and with time constraints, I often have glaring errors. Feel free to pass on reading my post, especially if you can't understand what I am saying. I promise I won't be offended.
