umm...okay how about instead of hand slapping people you skip over the posts of people that misspell words, don't punctuate correctly, and use wrong words good grief - get over yourself is it annoying? yep is it more annoying for someone to scold members of a forum she belongs to? double yep gina I cannot spell to save my life but you know what I am a good person... so to the grammar police I am doing the best I can If my post bother just don't read them and ginacivey thank you for your post.

What about "yer"? Can we use "yer"?

I also see it with its and it's and most of the time, it's used in the wrong way. And it's not just in posts - newspapers and other publications that should know better. This is basic grammar that goes back to - what? - middle school?? It amazes me how many people consistently use the terms inaccurately. Typo? Yes, I'm sure that happens at times. It's just that it happens so often and in so many places that you have to wonder.

What about "yer"? Can we use "yer"? As in "Quit yer bellyachin'?" Absolutely! But not in "Yer not from around here, are ya?" The proper usage in that case would be "ye're."

I worked for a woman in a very senior position who said "irregardless" ALL. THE. TIME. Damn near drove me batty. Apparently this is a real word. It hurts me to even type it.

How hard is it to just write you are instead of you're. At one time my husband mixed up your and you're. I just made him stop using you're until he learned to write it properly...and he eventually did, just by writing you are for a while.

so now you've made people feel bad - is it sufficient? gina If it's any consolation, I've given up. The inexorable descent of the English language I love into text speak and chaos feels like the inevitable march of climate change to me. Whenever I see a new offense (which is multiple times daily) I just haughtily sniff and feel self-righteous in my despair. Yesterday, I actually felt a little shock and thrill when I saw a new restaurant in town used the "apostrophe s" correctly.

Don't even get me started on the improper use of I and me. It's really not that difficult.

Oh, and plurals do not need an apostrophe. It seems as tho the world has gone apostrophe crazy, just throwing them in everywhere just for fun. There's a local market that has an ad in the paper weekly with prices for "tomatoe's" or "apple's". Nope, I'm not shopping there. Unless you are talking about A's and +'s and a few various exceptions. I loved getting thank you notes at the end of the school year from kids. Sometimes they would write "Your the best teacher." Clearly not, if I had been, you would be spelling that correctly. It really hurt me when I received thank you notes from seniors who continued to do the same thing. Personally, grammar does bother me (not auto correct at all) because I know we all learned it for years. But I also know that some people just don't care or think it is that important. I think that is their choice.

For some reason the one that makes my eyes and ears bleed is less versus fewer. I am noot sure why it bothers me as much as it does.

In proper written correspondence or official emails I promise to use correctly all of these things that seem to offend you so. Here...no guarantee or promise. Between typing on an iPad, annoying autocorrects, usually not a lot of proofreading and with time constraints, I often have glaring errors. Feel free to pass on reading my post, especially if you can't understand what I am saying. I promise I won't be offended. I couldn't have put it better myself

Sorry, I use my phone to post here. Typos are a fact of life and I don't see most of them until after I post. Most times I can't be bothered to edit. You'll just have to be judgy and I'll judge your judginess.

I understand this completely, however language has not stayed stagnant otherwise we would be conversing with each other quite differently. As with many things change is inevitable. I understand not liking or using the word. I don't understand the negativity towards people who do, especially if it is considered a word, proper or not. And this comment is just a general comment, I know that Keithurbanlovinpea said nothing negative toward anyone.

I'm sure people chose where they shop for all kinds of reasons, this is one of mine and I own it. There are lots of things people do or don't do on here that I think are strange, too!

It won't deter me from shopping some place. But I do recommend getting a second (or more) look by someone else to try and minimize your chance for errors. I learned this early after I sent a mass invitation for an anniversary party at a Knights of Columbus hall. I always thought it was called the KFC hall, but was really K of C hall. Yup and that is how the invites went out KFC. It wasn't until years later that I found out. It is funny but embarrassing. I was going to have someone look it over before I sent it to be printed but was pushed for time and just didn't. Totally wish I did, although none of those who received the invite mention it unless I bring it up.

There's a big difference between typos and incorrect usage of a word. The first might happen occasionally to one person but repeatedly making the same error shows it's not a typo.

Well hell - I just left the r off entirely in my latest post - you instead of your. And someone's already quoted me so I can't fix it. I blame you OP. I'm sure my brain was so worried about potentially offending you - it just decided to skip the whole r versus 're entirely.

There's a big difference between typos and incorrect usage of a word. The first might happen occasionally to one person but repeatedly making the same error shows it's not a typo. I would say maybe if they never used it correctly. But I often type the same things incorrectly time after time. I try to be mindful of them, but sometimes they slip by. It is certainly not because I don't know the proper usage or proper spelling. I have enough incorrect grammar and spelling mistakes that I want to make sure that my typos aren't considered a "strike 3, you're out" situation.

I find many college educated kids from his generation spell them incorrectly. Of course, when we see those videos of college campuses where the students don't know who the VP of the United States is or who fought in the Civil War, that also makes me crazy.

And hell yes we can use "yer". Yer such a bitch is proper form!

We know the difference - we just don't always proofread our posts. It's all how your brain's wired. I make phonetic typos all the time. They're glaringly obvious when I read them, but when I'm typing fast....my brain goes into some weird phonetic mode. Yesterday I typed know for no - why in the world would my brain type 3 EXTRA letters. It makes absolutely no sense. This. As I said the other day I have trouble with brain fog. Sometimes it's difficult to think of my words, grammar, punctuation. Spelling was never my best subject. Math was. I bet I could solve a math problem faster than you. Also if you don't use some things, you lose them. I've been out of the workforce for awhile. Instead of writing report I now kiss booboos and watch Paw Patrol. I'm very rusty. Also as a mother to five kids, I don't have much time. I have to type fast and don't have time to proofread. I've always been self conscious of these things but a few kind posters made me feel better about it. Made me want to come out of lurking and post more. Now I just want to go back to lurking.

Grammar nazis the reason why I don't post more. But they do remind me when I was about 6 or 7, my moms friend used a double negative and I corrected her. My mom got all over me for it. Told me I was rude. I shouldn't do that to adults. I'm not their teacher and it makes people feel bad.

Don't go back to lurking tara We need more math nerds! I do find a severe double standard to math ignorance and grammar/spelling mistakes. I'm not sure why it's so pervasive, but there seems to be a phenomena of almost bragging about one's inability to complete simple math problems, but the judgey pants sure come out over spelling mistakes!

Don't even get me started on the improper use of I and me. It's really not that difficult. I get the feeling that people think it is (it's) classier to use I instead of me, whether it is correct or not. I hear who and whom every time it is used incorrectly. TV and movies are full of that one.
