I need some new sunglasses. They will be prescription, so I will probably have them for awhile due to the cost. What styles are in right now? If you have gotten new ones recently, what did they look like.

Just like I cling to my classic French manicure no matter what the nail trends are, I stick to classic aviators because they suit me.

And haha... I just noticed I have a completely different style on in my profile pic! Those Costas were a gift, but they are excellent in strong sun. So anyway, what do I know? I'll shut up now. Lol.

Aviators, or the more rounded tortoiseshell 90s-style ones. Ray-Ban Wayfarers are a classic, though - DH has always gotten those for his prescription sunglasses.

I also wear aviators. They are classic and they look good on me. I wouldn't get trendy prescription sunglasses because they will probably be out of style shortly.

I have big calvin klein roundish movie star glasses-they are really dark and provide excellent protection. I LOVE my presciption sunglasses
while I like aviators a lot-they are a little too loose for sports like running and biking

I've ordered from both Zenni and Coastal, and couldn't be happier. The ones from Zenni were lower quality (but still decent), but the ones from Coastal are sturdier than any I've ever bought from an eye doctor. I have a very strong prescription and got the upgraded lenses, and I think my pairs from Zenni were less than $30 each and the ones from Coastal were maybe $70 or $80. They can tint any style they have. I found the "try on" feature very accurate. You need to know your Pupillary Distance - your eye doctor can give that to you, or they do have tools to measure it yourself (but just get it from your eye doctor, it's part of your prescription and they shouldn't withhold it). Also if you have any glasses that already fit you well, they should have the width of the frame on the inside of one of the arms. That width is very helpful so you can narrow down to similarly sized glasses, since you already know that width looks good on your face. Same thing with the height of the glasses. You can measure them as well, if they're a pair of regular sunglasses or the measurement wore off, etc. I'll never pay more than $100 for a pair of glasses again, I've been so happy with my purchases from those sites. Be sure to look for coupon codes or first-time specials, that can bring the price down even further. I don't know of they can do polarized, but that's the other thing I love in sunglasses -- worth every penny!! |

The problem is that I don't think I look good in glasses, especially sunglasses. I would be very hesitant to order online. I have a pair of ray bans that I wear but they don't have the bifocal lenses and it is really hard for me to read with them. I can still wear them when driving but I need a new pair that will work better for summer when I am wearing them a lot of the day or for other activities than just driving.

Huge is in, which isn't so great if you have a smaller face (like me). Then again I don't pay more than $10 for my sunglasses (which my kids will lose, step on, and destroy for me) so I have limited choices.

I was just going to say that it depends on what you need them for. I prefer to have polarized glasses and the Costas are usually the perfect glasses to have on when you are in, on, or around the water. Definitely one of my top choices, but it also means that I am not the most trendy sunglass wearer.  |

I do all the buying for the optometrist I work for. Our frame reps are showing lots of large, round frames right now. Apparently those are hot right now in the celebrity world so the frame companies are pushing them as the latest trend. In our area large, metal aviators in a variety of colors with patterns or rhinestones have been really trendy for the last year or so. Before that everyone wanted big plastic sunglasses.

Yes, I love my polarized lenses. I don't think I am that "trendy". Most of the ones I see celebrities wearing look pretty silly to me and I would never see someone wearing them around here. Maybe I should ask "what is in style for soccer moms in the Midwest" lol.

I see them in all kinds of shapes. |

I wouldn't do anything trendy with prescription sunglasses.
Mine are Maui Jim aviator glasses. They make 2 different sizes so I could get the proper size to fit my face without being too large and they are extremely light weight, which was super important for me. Some of the oversized plastic frames are very heavy. Maui Jim does their own prescriptions - I would recommend their prescription lessons 100 times!

I'm currently wearing these. But...please note, I'm not one for fashion. I was dead.set on getting Raybans. The sales consultant told me to try these on. The lens was way more clear than the Raybans! They looked okay, but I think the style is more of a classic, no frills frame. To me, living in the NW where the sun & clouds can't decide on what to do 90% of the day, so the amber polorized lens was perfect for where I live. Grey lenses are not. On the plus side, Arnette is way cheaper than Rayban! |

I'm also a aviator/wayfarer girl.
My only prescription sunglasses are a pair of Rayban Wayfarers. I think I've worn them once. I'm a contact girl, but got them for long swimming days when my eyes start burning.

My Kate Spade sunglasses are very similar to these. I just went in, told the guy my style which is very casual not trendy and then I just kept trying on frames. We kept narrowing them down until I just picked from two different frames. |
