If you don't hear back with a satisfactory response by early next week, I would follow up and ask them to refund a specific amount to reimburse you for damage and clean up. Decide before you call how much you expect, then ask for it

But unless you have receipts to prove those amounts, it's difficult to get them to agree with you. I'm going through something similar. The difference being it's AT&T. During the installation of a new alarm system, their incompetent technician drilled through both electrical wires that lead to my dryer which knocked out my electricity for the entire weekend and caused some damage to my house. They paid for the damages to be repaired, but I have been fighting them for almost 3 months now to pay for the full refrigerator worth of food I had to throw out. They want receipts. Who the hell keeps receipts of all their food, along with a running inventory of what's in their fridge at any given time. I'm at the point of suing them if my situation doesn't get resolved very soon. We had a similar situation after we moved into our house. We had invisible fence installed, and the technician unplugged our large upright freezer and never plugged it back in. Our FULL freezer, ugh. We lost about a quarter of a cow, all the venison from several deer and some other stuff. The freezer was in a corner of the garage and we didn't realize it until two weeks had passed. After we cleaned up the mess (and counted/logged all of the packs of meat we had to throw out) and plugged the freezer back in, it no longer worked. We ended up asking them for what it would cost us to replace the meat at retail plus some of the cost to replace the freezer itself because it was working fine when he unplugged it. They ended up giving us some of what we asked for in cash (which covered replacing the meat) plus a credit toward batteries for the collars for the rest and we were happy with that. I agree with what the others have said about coming up with a specific dollar amount that would satisfy you for your time and trouble to clean up the mess plus a percentage of the cost of the items that were damaged.

This is why the company carries insurance. I would expect them to fix and replace any damage.

Thank you all for validating me. I didn't hear back yesterday after the owner asked me to send pictures of the damaged items. I sent an email this morning letting him know that I was disappointed not to hear back, that I felt this was an easily fixable situation with a partial refund and that I didn't appreciate his employees acting like it was no big deal (the woman who answered the phone was super rude to me when I called). I also let him know that if we couldn't reach a mutual agreement today then I would be disputing the charge and leaving bad reviews on Angie's List, Google Review, Facebook, etc. Wouldn't you know he called me about an hour later? Imagine that. I was getting DD on the bus so I missed the call but will call back later today when I have a quiet moment (aka when my DS finally decides to stop making this the day of the never-ending temper tantrum).

I don't think that the cost of the job has any bearing on the remediation for the mistake they made. A house in our neighborhood was having their patio stained and the company doing it left oil based stained rags in a closed container which resulted in a fire and total loss of their home. Obviously their damages weren't just limited because the job itself was small. Y our damages are at the very least an hourly rate to clean up and any repairs or replacement (at least depreciated) for the items that were ruined. You won't speak to them, of course, but their assistant often directs you to a conflict resolution team member who works directly on these special cases received at the upper level. I've done this twice now - once for Comcast and another time for Ally Bank. I was able to get it resolved with Comcast but not the other. It's worth a shot.

I think they should offer to make things right, but do you have any paperwork with their terms and conditions on it. If you do, read that over and see what it says. I agree. I think there's often a line that you've checked the work and it's been completed to your satisfaction and then a line for your signature. I've seen that on contracts for work I've had done in my home. If it's been 48 hours, they might say you can't prove they did it. It's been 2 days, other people could have been down there, etc.

I think that resolution was great!
We had a new roof put on, and for only the 2nd time in 20 years, one of their demo guys put his foot thru the roof and into our living room! We considered, for a short moment, a skylight, but the owner immediately said "don't worry, we'll pay" (well, duh).
We had our ceilings redone about 12 years ago so it has been a bitch for the poor guy to match it. He's been out 3 times so far, but we think this is the last time.
We were happy everyone stood behind their work and took pride in it.
