This past Tuesday evening, after I ate dinner, I began getting lower abdominal cramps. The pain never went away and became a tad stronger and started to radiate towards the right side more. I felt slightly nauseous and began breaking a slight sweat. I thought perhaps it was the start of a bug, but the abdominal pain was too intense. Seven hours later when there wasn't any improvement, I had my husband take me to the ER. They ran labs, urinalysis and CT with contrast that revealed nothing. My white cell count was a tad high at 11 (I am normally at 4, but the range should be between 4 and 11). I have had a hysterectomy six years ago, but retained my ovaries. Five months after my hysterectomy, I developed ovarian cysts. I actually thought perhaps I had another cyst, but the CT scan did not show that. I was told to follow up with GI, which I did and had an EGD yesterday. It turns out I have three ulcers, but that aren't bleeding. I don't think my symptoms are due to the ulcers. I have no pain from my belly button and up. The pressure I am feeling is horrific and hurts more every time I move. Driving to the my appointment today was torture with every bump I hit. I am walking like an old woman because each step I take causes pain as well.
I saw my PCP today and she prescribed cypro in case I have a UTI, depsite my urine coming back clear. She sent it out for further testing and told me to call her Saturday. She mentioned that it quite possibly be a ruptured ovarian cyst, which the CT would not show. She also said it could be something going on that might require a colonoscopy. I have an appointment with my GYN tomorrow, but this pain, pressure and bloating is so debilitating. I have absolutely NO appetite either.
I hope I shared enough for you to share your opinion and/or experiences. Sorry if you have experience with this!
I thank you all for your input!!! The peas know all!!

Amy initial thought is appendix but with all the tests done I guess they may have ruled that out.
Hoping you get a diagnosis soon and are on the way to feeling better.

Appendix was my thought too, but yes, it was ruled out.
Thank you for the well wishes!

Any history of diverticulitus or another bowel disease? Maybe something manifesting for the first time?

I was going to say diverticulitis. A colonoscopy would show that. Nothing by mouth and IV antibiotics are the usual course of treatment.

Are you 50 yet? If so, your insurance should cover a colonoscopy period. If so, I'd ask to have that scheduled asap.
I hope you get answers and relief SOON!

I would have thought appendix based on symptoms. I would not be taking antibiotics without a bacterial infection diagnosis.

My friend had these exact same symptoms and was diagnosed with divertivculitis. She walked all hunched over and the pain was so intense she was in agony.
She can no longer eat anything with seeds or popcorn. She had eaten a salad with strawberries when hers started. The seeds got stuck in her bowel.

What did you have to eat on Tuesday? (All meals.) Do you remember? Maybe we will notice a likely diverticulitis trigger.

You poor pumpkin!! You're doing everything right and they can't find the solution. I can't imagine it's a UTI and it sounds a lot like diverticulitis, but you'd think your doctor would have brought that up as it's not uncommon.
I hope you can figure this out by tomorrow!!!

I've had similar tummy reactions when I eat too much sweet stuff. Usually within thirty minutes or so I have diarrhea and then I'm fine.

Please do not take an antibiotic without some kind of infection. A slightly elevated WBC doesn't get me too excited - not enough to suggest Cipro anyway.
Sounds more like diverticulitis or even an ectopic pregnancy. I'd lean towards diverticulitis but you never know.

Sounds like appendix, can be missed on CT, I'd see a general surgeon for a work up.

They did a CT and no ultrasound?
If someone in the ER called me with your story (meaning the PA or the MD), I'd make them call me back after the ultrasound. Some of them know not to bother calling me until they have those results.

My mother had what you are experiencing almost exactly a year ago. She has ulcerative colitis, and thought it was due to that. After a few days in the hospital with what seemed more and more like an intestinal blockage, her gastrointerologist was still doing nothing.
We checked her out of that hospital against medical advice, although her family doctor supported it, and rushed her to the emergency room at Cedars Sinai. They had her on the operating table within hours, and found that some scar tissue from a hysterectomy many years ago had wrapped itself around her small bowel. The surgeon said she was within an hour of a rupture. I couldn't help but think about that when Patty Duke recently died from a ruptured bowel. Luckily my mom recovered.
Apparently DM's situation was difficult to diagnose from scans and ultrasounds. A crazy coincidence is that her closest friend had the same thing happen a couple of weeks later.
There are, of course, many things other posters mentioned above that could be wrong. I just wanted to let you know our experience, even though it's a worst case scenario. The first question that all of the doctors at Cedars asked was if she had ever had abdominal surgery, and it was only afterwards that we realized that they were concerned about the scar tissue.

Kidney stone? I've had both that and cysts, and the pain was somewhat similar (my stone was stuck, and I basically thought I would die). Prayers for a quick solution for you!
