No, Publix is not giving you $75 off your $80 purchase. Nor is Aldi giving you $60 off of $70. Of Target. Or Lowes, or any of these stupid bait posts to get your info. Gah!!!! How do these (seemingly intelligent) people fall for this? Vent over.

I haven't seen any of these types of posts on FB, but yes, definitely eyeroll-worthy.

I haven't seen any of these types of posts on FB, but yes, definitely eyeroll-worthy. They're making the rounds. I've seen four of the Publix ones just in the last hour or so.

I hate the urban legend posts. One check on Snopes will keep you from looking like an idiot.

And Facebook is going to contribute $5.00 for medical care for a little boy every time you share the post?

Wait, will this happen after Mark Zuckerberg (or however you spell it) gives away 300 million of his fortune to FB posters? I am pretty pessimistic when it comes to stuff like this.

Is it wrong that I get a kick out of posting the snopes hoax link on those when my friends post them? Hahaha

One of my friends will "share" those posts and write that while it is probably a hoax, it doesn't hurt to try anyways.

Clicking on some of those will likely end up doing damage to your computer and/or doing something nefarious. Then those people wonder WHY.

Someone unfriended me after I politely pointed out that the "free $100 Costco card to every person who likes this post" was just a scam. We weren't that close anyways

Oh man yes. And don't get me started on the "type Amen for this sick child" ones. They're just Like-farming, folks!
I had one the other day that was a picture of a young woman in a wheelchair, saying in broken English that nobody will share this photo. When I checked out the page, it was full of bikini shots, barely decent. I PMed the girl who shared it, and a few hours later she posted another photo from the same page, saying "this was the one I meant to share" GAH! It's still Like-farming! Nothing to do with disabled people, OK? smh

i hate the ones that say "if you care about depression/cancer/accessible dental care, re-post this in your status. most people aren't brave enough to post this, i want to see if my friends are".
my old receptionist CONSTANTLY posts every hoax that goes around FB about FB. "we will not PAY for Facebook" or "going into your setting and click this this and this to ensure no one can turn your clothed children's pics into naked pics". crazy!

I liked the first post on this thread, pressed enter, and then nothing happened that "Blew my mind". What a rip off. Maybe God is mad at me because I'm one of the "99% who won't share this prayer", and haven't verified I don't like cancer by sharing a post.

How do these (seemingly intelligent) people fall for this? Vent over. I think it was last year about this time that a Publix 'coupon' for $100 of $120 or more purchase was floating around. Apparently, people were printing it out and trying to use it and getting mad when it didn't work. Publix went on Twitter and Facebook and all the print media to say it was a fake and would not be honored and people still got mad...I love Publix and think they are all kinds of amazing, but even I know they aren't so altruistic as to give away $100 worth of food per coupon. Crazy that people believe this kind of stuff.

I haven't seen that one, but I know most of my friends aren't quite that gullible. I assume they are curious, opened it and it was a virus-like thing that auto posted it.
I have fear it would happen to me if I click the link to see why the woman 75 looks 35.

oh gosh, I hate those Facebook posts for the gullible. It's like the old e-mail scams turned up to 11. When will people use there heads? And everyone tells me it's a bad thing to be cynical. Well at least I'm not suckered every five minutes by a stupid scammer.

My favorite one right now is one with a picture of 4 battle weary soldiers in the jungle. Sweaty, carrying big guns and looking like they just escaped with their lives. Caption reads: Like this and share if you support Vietnam vets". Then some nonsense about if you don't share, you are going to hell. (Ok, I made that part up). Great sentiment but the picture is actually of Ben Stiller and Jack Black from some stupid movie.

On Mother's Day my cousin posted a picture of the gas chamber from the Holocaust. It was awful. I realize the Holocaust was horrific bug do you have to post pictures.
Another cousin posts all the sick kid pics and poor puppy pics to "like" or say "amen".
I'm ready to ignore them. AND don't get me started on political stuff that isn't true.
Glad I'm the sane cousin. Hahahaha

On Mother's Day my cousin posted a picture of the gas chamber from the Holocaust. It was awful. I realize the Holocaust was horrific bug do you have to post pictures. That one was likely because Holocaust Remembrance Day was only a couple of days before Mother's Day. I don't do Facebook, but it was all over my twitter feed-there were more than a few photos that made me want to cry.

Here's the thing ~ most any big store, etc, is going to have a VERIFIED Facebook page. If the page saying they're giving away whatever isn't verified, 99% of the time it's bogus.

Ok, I kind of like that one because it's showing the stupid! People share crap without giving a thought to the veracity or where the pictures came. And often times it's a case of stolen pictures set to a fake story.
I like Walter White cancer one now - that cracks me up to see people share that one. LOL.

I once read a great article explaining these kinds of ads and offers. the people behind them purposely make them outrageously stupid or hard to believe. that's because they want to weed out the logical, rational people who know it is BS or that it's a scam. who they want are the truly gullible or stupid people who will fall for anything. those are the easy marks. they will believe anything and will part with their money easily. that's who those ads are targeted towards.
