I am a chronological regular 12x12 scrapper. I do have a collection of PL kits. I don't think I will ever use them as they were meant to be used (dedicated PL album). I just finished scrapping a vacation that was several layouts long. I'm feeling a little burned out on vacation stuff right now, but have another one to do. I was thinking about doing this next vacation with PL and putting it in my regular album.
Have you ever done that? I've heard of 12x12s mixed in with PL, but never PL mixed in with primarily 12x12s. What did you think about doing it that way? Did you like it? Wish you hadn't done it? I have the WRMK albums and I'm assuming the page protectors will fit.

I'm planning on doing this in my normal 12x12 album. The pages from PL do fit just fine. I use primarily normal 12x12 page protectors but I want to add in some of the PL ones to mix it up! I think it will add a nice variety to my normal scrapbook.

I do it.
I like the way it looks. Gives variety.
I use WRMK 3 ring albums, and have used WRMK & PL protectors, both have fit.

I'm just getting into the PL style after doing traditional 12x12 scrapping and I like it. However, I have come to the conclusion that I can do whatever I want in whatever format suits me, because I am primarily scrapping for me. Yeah, my son will get my books someday. Not that I plan to, but if I want to use decorative edge scissors, a zillion wacky stickers, cut my photos into shapes (well, as long as I have them backed up on an SD or on my computer) I'm going to do what makes me happy.

I have always scrapped chronologically and put whatever size page protector or layout in order in a 12x12 album. I am starting to think I like 8.5x11 better so may eventually convert to that after I use a lot of my page protectors. I cut them up sometimes to get the configuration I like. I was doing that way before PL with normal divided photo album inserts. I like it because I can put more photos in and then just feature what I want to make a layout on. Yes they will fit, I use WRMK albums with all different types of page protectors.

Hi Scrappea! I'm just starting to do this! I just put up a post on my blog that shows a design A insert I made to go with two traditional layouts about a camping trip. I also show the traditional layouts in this post. I thinks they look great together and I plan to do more. You can see it on my blog: Artful Scrapbooking

I do this too with vacation photos. I usually make a couple of full 12x12 pages with the trip overview/journalling and then pop the photos in the pocket pages. I like lots of photos in my albums, but sometimes creating individual full spreads takes too much time.

As a traditional 12x12 scrapper, I've incorporated various sizes/configurations of page protectors in my albums to hold extra photos &/or memorabilia for years! I regularly use 8.5x11 (e.g. flyers/playbills/report cards), 6x12 (e.g. menus, lists), divided 6x12 (holds 6 horizontal 4x6 photos), & divided 12x12 (displays 12 horizontal &/or vertical 4x6 photos). Inserting a 8.5x11 or 6x12 to hold a two-sided program (for example) between my two-page layout for the event prevents me from having to add another layout just for the sake of including the memorabilia. Similarly, inserting divided 6x12 & 12x12 as a facing page to a single layout or between a two-page layout enables me to add 6-12 extra photos/memorabilia from an event that do not add to the story captured on my page(s), but I want to store in the album. Personally, I like the variety/lack of uniformity the different sizes/configurations add to my albums!

I do a mix of 12x12 and pocket pages since I always have so many photos. I say anything goes! What's important is that the pics and stories are there, not necessarily the format they're in.

I agree - just do it the way you want. I do a mix of PL and 12 x 12 (though primarily PL) and think it adds a lot of interest to have a mixture.

I keep both in the same album. I do one PL layout a week and just mix it in with whatever regular layouts I make. There's 6 months to an album so I make two albums a year. That's it.

I don't do PL like some, but I do use the divided picked protectors to scrap certain events. Right now I'm using them to scrap DS's first year album. At his first bday party, I took at TON of super cute photos. I wanted to scrap them traditionally but all those two pagers... no time for that nor a desire! So I did a traditional 12x12 page on one side of his eating his cake and filled a pocket page with additional photos and coordinating product for the other "half." The one thing I try to keep in mind is what's going to go on the other side of that pocket page, since I don't do those kinds as much. I don't want to flip the page in his book and see the backs of those cake photos, you know? So I planned a page of his present opening in the same way. That referes side pocket will have lots of photos and then I'll traditionally scrap the other side/half. As long as I plan it out like that, it has worked out great to use them in a chronological album!

I use the divided page protectors almost exclusively for all our trips now. The exception was a short fishing trip on Lake of the Woods, but I did throw in a divided page protector LO in with the regular LOs.
I also do this in my family album. I mostly do regular LOs, but if I have a bunch of photos from an event then I will do a LO with a divided page protector. I just put it in chronological order in the album.

I do pocket pages (a layout just in the PL styled page protectors) and I've started doing a pseudo PL type spreads by month for memories I'd like to keep but don't need a full layout. Both go into my regular albums. Although I don't typically scrap chronologically, I do store my spreads that way. I love the way the variety looks, but I've always mixed in 8x8, 8.5x11 and 12x12 layouts. I'm weird that way.

I don't do PL but I do use divided protectors mixed in with my traditional 12x12 layouts. Typically I use these when I have a lot of photos of one event or trip. Sometimes I do a coordinating 12x12 & sometimes I put the entire set of photos in divided protectors. I like the randomness of it in my albums. Like mentioned above, it does take a little coordination to use the other side if the event doesn't cover both sides because I don't do a lot of events that have a lot of photos.

Like most everyone has posted, I do this too. I don't do PL, but do like to mix in the divided pages. And most are different sized pages, depending on how many photos, etc I want to add with out making another page.
One of my favorite divided pages is a 6x12 page (3 4x6 landscape) photos or paper inserts with extra journaling or embellishments. If I don't have any 6x12 pages I have been known to cut a 12x12 (6 horizontal or landscape pockets) divided page protector in half and just toss the extra part.
I have also stuck in 81/2 x 11 pages, especially if it is a document.
I like flipping through the album and seeing the odd sized page here and there. Plus, if anyone else is looking at my albums, it makes them pause, and I think they pay more attention to the album they are looking at overall.

Aren't the PL pages smaller than the 12x12? I'm not sure I'd like it if the page protectors were different sizes.

I do this. I started with WRMK divided pages and cutting paper to fit. I don't even remember PL being around when I first started using the WRMK pages. You don't have to use PL products at all. (I only say that because sometimes people seem to need "permission." ) The way I most often use a divided page is by doing a 4-page LO with a 12x12 bookending the divided page. Less often, I have started another subject on the "back" side, making it the first page of another LO and I have also just put cardstock or printed paper on the "back" side and used it as a divider or a segue to another topic or section in the album. I've seen people who just leave the backs of the photos, sort of an empty page, which I don't do.

OMG, I have been exploring this same issue for the past 2 weeks...it started with a conversation with 2 of my scrappy friends who just don't have the time to scrap like they did before. And then for me for those Los that have so many pictures I set them side because it gives me a headache thinking about how to scrap them. My solution to both problems is to do 12x12 pocket style pages without using pockets. I am loving it and got my third challenging page done last night! Here is an example of my first attempt. My only issues were that I realized that my photos were not true 4x6 and my BH PL 3x4 cards were not true either. I just lived with it and filled the worst gaps with embellishments. I like this approach because I don't have to buy pocket pages and struggle with photo orientation and then dealing with the same issue on the flip side.

Oh what cute pages, camanddanismom! I think autumn pages are my very favorite, you did a great job. I will be trying this technique in my books. TFS

Thank you! It was liberating, actually, to fill in the grid, then embellish. The embellishing took way more time than figuring out the placement!!

I think it sounds like a great idea. I am considering using PL pages to get some pictures into an album finally because I will probably never get the books done if I try to do layouts for all of them. But doesn't PL have pages that are basically 12x12 page protectors?
