Oh I had to share with the peas. I just picked my daughter up from her last day of middle school. A parent was out front in a LIMO to pick up her daughter. I just couldn't help but laugh. Are they going to park a helicopter on the football field for high school? It's 8th grade people!!! My poor deprived daughter.

My first thought was how fun, I have a group of friends who hire a limo sometimes to go on winery tours and we could drive ourselves but we don't. It's just fun and no one is deprived if we do drive ourselves, I think there's nothing wrong with a little fun and frivolity sometimes in life.

It sounds fun!
Why do peaple feel the need to criticize with posts like this when other parents try to do fun/special things for their kids?

Maybe it was her reward for doing really well, or a major improvement, during the school year? Around here it could have been a party and they were picking up several friends as well to celebrate the end of the year. On the surface it does look over the top, but even if it is that's their choice to be over the top.

Why is it over the top?? I know MANY fundraisers that the top prize is a limo ride.
I think it's adorable. I know someone who did this for a daughters birthday part once. They ride around, had Shirley temples, did nails, and just enjoyed life.

i would just be laughing and rolling my eyes. if the mom was going to spend the money on a limo, why not just take the kid and a few of his/her friends to lunch somewhere? that's money better spent to me.

Maybe the limo drove the child and her friends to lunch that's true. why stop at a limo from home? perhaps they went straight to a spa for pampering. then the limo dropped them off to do some jewelry shopping for some summer bling. after that they went to a fancy dinner over looking the ocean where violinists serenaded them while they discussed what 9th grade will be like. LOL

Actually that's a pretty popular bday for young girls here - limo ride to the spa and lunch. They even have pink limos for the littler girls.

8th grade? Our elementary school always had several lined up for 5th grade graduation/last day of school. Fun for the kids and not judge-worthy, IMO.

A friend of a friend picked up his son and 2 friends in a limo and took them to a baseball game on his 16th birthday. It was a big surprise!

It might not be all that OTT. Our school's PTA holds one major fundraiser annually instead of having the kids sell all of the assorted stuff that no one really wants to buy throughout the year, and this year one of the live auction items at the event was a limo ride for the winning bidder's kid and ten of their friends after school on the last day.
It was a popular item that got many bids! I'm pretty sure the winner was going in with another parent and they were planning to split the cost. The kids would get a 3 hour limo ride around town starting at school when it let out and included pizza and soda for all the kids. The benefit for the parent who won is that their winning bid is tax deductible since all proceeds from the event go to the PTA. I could see where it would be a fun sendoff for a kid in their last year at a school.

So Friday is my last day of school and I am retiring this year. Is it wrong to say I wish a limo would pick me up from school and whisk me away for a massage, manicure and dinner out? I've been in middle school at least part time for the past thirty odd years. If anyone deserves it, I think I do!

Luckily none of my kids are kids that ask for much or want much attention, so they have never even been in a limo yet Apparently it's just not one of our things But neither are spas or school flower/balloon/food deliveries.

I had a friend in elementary school and middle school who came to school in a limo every single day. His dad owned a limo company and was usually out driving most days. The novelty of sitting in the back wore off pretty quickly but the best days were when a bunch of us got to come along.
My mother in law loves to pick us up from the airport in a limo, it makes the hour drive to her house that much more enjoyable.

Actually, you deserve to be picked up in a yacht like at the end of Romancing the Stone!

My son and a bunch if his buddies did that in middle school. They had a forensics competition which they won, and had hired a limo to pick them up after school to celebrate. I was totally clueless, but thought it suited them and the teacher who sponsored the forensics team thought it was prefect. they were a great group of kids.

On my dd's last day of elem. school (5th grade) she an about 8 friends where treated, by us parents, to a limo ride to the beach for lunch and then to an ice cream place. They didnt know about it in advance. They where so excited and had so much fun. I was so grateful that she was able to do that during a very hard time in our lives. My mom was in the hospital in CCU when you bowels ruptured and we didnt know if she would make it.
In the past, I may have felt like you did in seeing the limo, but after a lot of things that have happened to my family over the years, I look at things a bit differently. Maybe there was more to the limo for the girl then what people saw.

This thread makes me sad. We own a limo and really wanted to pick up the youngest granddaughter at school on Friday in it but our schedule wouldn't let us.
Maybe... just maybe.... it was a parent just trying to make a fun memory for their kid and not some parent trying to show off to the other parents.

Wondering if it's one of those limo rentals where you get a special rate for renting a four or eight hour block of time? They probably have the rental for the duration of the graduation ceremony as well.
