I've just had a friend visiting me for a week and we've been doing a ton of touristy things. One thing that really grates on my nerves is people who use their iPads to take photos in crowded places. We went to a musical theater show at a really small venue and a woman on the front row held her full size iPad (with case hanging down) up while filming almost the entire show. Fortunately she wasn't in front of me or I would have asked her to lower it. Another time we were at a shrine where a wedding was taking place and I guy with a full sized iPad was standing right in front, so no one else could get a photo. Grrr - bring a regular camera, or use your phone

SO rude! Anyone taking pics at any type of performance is really annoying!
I had someone behind me lean so far forward to the point that her phone was past my line of sight. Are you really getting that much closer than from where you are sitting? I was silently hoping she'd drop her phone and it might get accidentally kicked down the row.

A tourist was taking photos at Sunset Cliffs in San Diego recently, fell off the cliffs and died. Horrible.
Edit : with an iPad

Unfortunately, the camera in the iPad keeps getting better and better, so there is no stopping the iPad photographers! I do notice though that a lot of iPad photographers tend to be older.

No just say no. Or hang a big sign on your back that says I don't understand technology- I don't realize my phone is higher quality.

I wouldn't say "older" many are younger than me. But it does seem to be 40-60 year old women in my area. And I think they believe they're kewl. Very often moms at kids events. Sorry, I am oddly passionate about this as a DON'T.

It is crazy - saw it at the Grand Canyon. However, we just watched a concert on TV and the amount of phones in the air taking photos/videos was stupid. I would be pissed because it would be so distracting.

Taylor Swift concert three years ago. We were in the pit leaning on the railing being squished by people behind us. Some chickie held her camera up what seemed to be the entire time blocking our view. Yes, a regular camera but it was dang annoying.

It's so annoying especially when your trying to get a picture of the same thing and all you get is pictures of tourists with iPads. Happened to be last month in SF for 3 straight days!

Every time I see someone take a pic with an IPad, it reminds me of Moses holding up the tablets in Ten Commandments.

Yes, even with phones, it can get annoying when someone is videotaping a performance. As others have noted on the picture thread, often the quality is poor anyway so are you really watching that video afterwards? Just enjoy the show for what it is and let the people behind you have an unobstructed view.

For most performances isn't that a no-no? But then again, we are all, "so special". I will even put myself in that class. Today, at Trader Joe's. I scooted out in front of someone trying to park.

At my kids band concerts I have noticed this. I have a regular camera and my iPhone I use if I don't bring my camera. But to use my iPad? Nope.

I hardly ever carry an iPad around, and when I do I never think of taking pictures with it.

I recently tried to navigate my way through a very crowded airport behind a family where three people walking abreast had either phones or ipads held up videoing their entire trip down the terminal. Even if you have never traveled before, there's nothing in a video of random people walking/rushing in an airport that is to be treasured. People were getting very frustrated with them. That's the kind of incident that can lead to violence.

This is totally my mother. I apologize on her behalf. I hate it when she uses her iPad to take pictures. She has an iPhone 6+, but she hasn't figured out that it can take pictures too. She also has a decent P&S camera, but for some reason she defaults to the iPad. I think maybe because it's easier for her to see if she's getting the picture she wants.

I fully admit to preferring my iPad for pictures when I'm home. I can't really explain why but it's just a better feel, better quality? Plus the larger screen is nicer too.
But you won't see me out in public using that thing unless I forgot my Phone but have the iPad with. It's never happened but I'm not going to say never.
In the grand scheme of life I don't know why anyone even cares, other than if your big ass camera is blocking someone else's view.
And I'm 38 if anyone is wondering.

Drives me nuts when I see it.
Related funny -- There is a mom at ODS's band concerts that insists on recording the whole concert on her iPad. She gets up, stands right in the middle of the aisle, about 6 rows back from the stage, and stands there to record. She did it last year and nothing was said. The first concert of the year is the marching band concert. They march into the auditorium using the 4 aisles the run along the sides and between the seats, the color card is in the aisles with flags and props, they play all the songs from the field set and march back out. It's a really fun concert. iPad mom must have missed this concert last year or something. She stood up in her preferred place of recording as the drums started up in the hallway and nearly got bowled over by the low brass section as they marched in playing their horns. I don't know why she didn't move until the last possible second -- perfect shot greed, maybe, who knows. They come in fast and she almost made them trip all over her, themselves, and their instruments. Anyhow, the next week a memo was sent out from the music department to all band parents that anyone recording the concert had to do so from the back row of the theater, behind the seats and out of the aisles, as not to disturb the rest of the attendees and for the safety of the band. ODS said that the mom's DD was so relieved that someone told her mom to knock it off, because the mom wouldn't listen to the DD about how rude (and embarrassing) she was being.

Grrr - bring a regular camera, or use your phone I would have gotten a staff member to ask her to stop. That is beyond rude and many theaters prohibit it. I went to a production at a theater and the girl in front of us pulled out her camera 1/2 HR before it started, she was going to snap a photo of the theater with the lights on (stage was special) and the ushers were all over her (rudely too) telling her to put the camera away, no photos were allowed!

Sweet, I just discovered a new way to embarrass my 14 year old dd! No, I would never do it to her but I just might threaten her with the idea!
