My hat is off to all of you runners. I did C25K last year, ran a 5K event then quit. Of only I didn't hate it so much. . . The only way I've gotten to enjoy it is by running with people. I could not do it alone - I tried. Meeting others and getting together to run has helped me tremendously. I'm in it for the social aspect ;-) Running is mental game and I still have trouble staying with it if I am alone. Yesterday, I mentored a beginning running group. There was a girl struggling with the run intervals, so I joined up with her and we got to talking. When the timer went off for the end of the last interval, she was amazed at how quickly the time seemed to have gone by. Yeah, and I don't like people, so. . .
Welcome liya and Sparki!

I saw a post on another thread and decided to pop over (thanks melissa ). I am new to this thread. I am a newly reformed couch potato who has quite a bit of weight to lose. Gained quite a bit on some medication (that I no longer am on) and now and am stuck with the weight that piled on. I need motivation to do the right things. I am currently in the midst of a Whole 30 eating plan (have done it a few other times in the past year with some success) but I tend to get bored with my meals by the time it is ending. I also recently discovered Barre fitness and have been going consistently for about 6 weeks now. I attend about 5 days out of 7 so that is something I am happy with. I turn 50 in the next few weeks and feel very inspired to create a better me for the future. Need motivation though!!

Welcome FLA SummerBaby!
In terms of cookbooks - I just bought Thug Kitchen (think vegan with oodles of attitude). I loved the recipes I've tried so far and I'm looking forward to exploring more. Then, I serve those vegan dishes with a side of meat so. . .

Crud. That should have read village. If you search for the name of that podcast. "Beginner Runner Village," it will be episode BRV27. Thank you!!! Beginner Runner Village is what got me running. Tank Top has suggested it to me a few months back and I really enjoyed listening to the podcasts. I just started downloading her other series for runners.

Yesterday I sent to buy a new bra for a dress I'm wearing and I am down 2 cup sizes. I honestly wanted to cry I was so happy!
My hips are still hurting from my 5K run last Saturday. I probably shouldn't have ran on Monday but I did - I am going to take today off and see if they feel better tomorrow.
I'm officially bored with my breakfast choices. It's either 1 egg and egg whites with low fat toast, or PBJ on low fat bread. What do you all eat for breakfast? I don't like oatmeal but everything else is good.

Welcome all new folks! Glad to have you :-) FLA SummerBaby I am gearing up to start Whole 30 in about three weeks but I'm trying to incorporate as many whole 30 meals now as I can. I am curious about your experience. My main goal is to see if giving up dairy will help some horrible seasonal allergies that I have had my whole life. I eliminated white breads and added sugars about six months ago & have been eating whole wheat bread or pasta or brown rice a couple times a week. So I have some strategies for dealing with meals with no starch.

mrsp --sounds like you are already off to a good start!! Honestly the thing I miss the most when I do my W30 is my dairy. I love cheese and yogurt and ice cream and most all forms of yummy dairy goodness!! I also miss grains because I like my oatmeal! I get used to the no sugar thing and the positive side effect for me has been that even when I resume sugar, I tend to crave it less and things just inherently taste sweeter to me and are easier for me to say no. My experience overall is good, I did my first round a year ago and actually stayed on it 45 days. I did 2 or 3 other subsequent W30 rounds but they didn't feel as "successful" (mainly because I was looking at weight lost as my hallmark.) I just find it challenging to go out to eat and tend to choose either a steakhouse since I feel like there are several options there or Mexican (if I am feeling strong enough to pass on the chips & queso)!

I had a end of school lunch with faculty/staff today but managed to do well with a taco salad (sans meat) and no dressing. It was drizzled with lime juice and something else, so I really didn't need the dressing. Tonight is my Yoga night. I have new Yoga pants. That's a big deal for me...I hate the way I look in yoga pants. It's all me with the poor self concept. This is a great yoga class with absolutely no judgements.
More hurdles (or as I prefer to think of them, opportunities) in the next couple days as I have lunch plans with two different friends. The key for me is looking at the menu online before I even go, so I can make a smart decision and not be swayed at the table.

Hi everyone, Sounds like so much progress has been made! I am so proud of everyone in this thread!!! I'm chugging along well myself. Still not exercising, but I'm still on track with my eating. I'm choosing to be proud of myself for the good eating habits rather than beat myself up for failing to exercise. I've been thinking about goals for the month of June, has anyone else set any for themselves? Keep up the hard work!! 80-90% of weight loss is what you eat! So you're doing great!! My next mini goal is to be under 200 lbs by the time school is finished (June 14th). I'm currently at 202.6...so definitely attainable. I was there a month ago when we had the dreaded stomach bug but as expected I went right back up a bit and have been slowly working my way back down. My other goal is a summertime goal, which is to stay on plan with eating and exercise. I've had trouble maintaining both during the summer so the summertime goal will be a BIG test.

My thighs just spasmed in sympathy. I'm actually doing okay so far (although, tomorrow may be a different story). I find it's the squats that kill me.
I just noticed that what I had planned to eat today (other than the 'whatever' for dinner) puts me grossly under calories. And I'm hungry af right now. I think I might have to stop at Chipotle on the way to choir.
My hat is off to all of you runners. I did C25K last year, ran a 5K event then quit. Of only I didn't hate it so much. . .
So far I'm not loving it. I feel satisfaction with every day I complete but thus far, no love. I hope that changes though.

I really need to get sized for new bras but I just dread it. So I keep tighening up the ones I have. For breakfasts I alternate between oatmeal and yogurt. I wasn't a big oatmeal fan until about a year ago. I found BetterOats Cinnamon Roll...and I dice up an apple and sautee it with Pam and cinnamon and add it to the oatmeal. It's the only way I can palette oatmeal. And it's less than 200 calories and filling! For yogurt, I eat the Stonyfield Farms Vanilla Yogurt and add in fresh cut strawberries and top it with my homemade granola. I also eat that for lunch. Occasionally, I'll make egg whites with 2 slices of bacon, a slice of whole grain toast and some fruit. Haven't had that in months though.

So, Day 2 of accidents reeking havoc on the county's interstate. Thank goodness my bil called and told me where the accident was (I was already in bumper to bumper traffic going no where fast) and I was able to get into the local lanes and exit and take the back roads home. Traffic is exhausting to deal with! Ugh!
I have a hellacious headache right now, a stack of tests I NEED to grade and some speaking prompts I need to create. I'm dreading it. Oh, did I mention I bruised the crap out of my foot yesterday while at my kid's speech therapy appointment? I could barely walk on it last night. Thank goodness the swelling went down and I have been able to walk, but I can't put sneakers/closed toe shoes on because it hurts my dang foot! Going to have to keep my eating in check so I can keep this week on a positive path!
Food's been good today. Waiting for dinner to be done, but I'm not in the mood for it. I'll probably make an egg or something. I'm just not really into anything right now.
Ok...gotta get some work done!

I read somewhere, that after a race, you rest for a day of each mile run. Resting means different things for different people, for me it means walking instead of running. That small thing has helped in race recovery, so much.

My breakfasts are either two eggs with anything left over from last night (roasted veg, bits and pieces left over from chopped onions, etc., sausage, anything that isn't going to get eaten for lunch) or spinach, feta, green chiles, etc. usually I eat that with some fruit. I love eggs and would eat them everyday without being sick of eating them, but some days I don't feel like cooking them. Then usually I'll make a smoothie with spinach and fruit, almond milk. My favorite is vanilla protein powder, cocoa powder, a frozen banana. But I try not to have that too much since it seems like dessert. If I am really on the run, I will have carrot sticks and hard boiled eggs. greek yogurt with granola and fruit is good as well but granola can be a calorie bomb for me (I eat too much).

Good afternoon everyone. I am new to this thread but I am going to try to walk at least 10 minutes 3 times a day (hmm I am not sure for how long until I bump it up longer.) Today I will probably only do it twice but my plan is to set my alarm 15 minutes early so I can walk the first time before work. Yeah! Glad you made it over, and sounds like a great start!

I hope you guys don't mind me joining in. Little back story: I never worked out in my life till I had a kid. I was always underweight. Had a kid (lost 20 lbs during pregnancy/gained 10..go figure..lol). But I gained weight after the kid was born. Then thyroid issues happened. Had to get half the thyroid removed. I was eating good and weight was normal. Neither under nor over. I started working out march of last year. I found fitnessblender on youtube and started doing those. It was less about weight and more about mind for me. I have severe PMS issues and exercise seems to keep me in check. I can't talk about it much in real life because i always get, "why are you working out. You are skinny" or "Why are you running, you look like you can add more pounds?" I always smile and don't say anything but it does get a bit discouraging. Back to working out, I never ran in my life. I would always tell my friends, if you see me running, please call 911 because someone is chasing me..lol. On a whim, I signed up for half marathon last year. Not only did I finish that half marathon, i did two more half marathons after that . I haven't signed up for any more yet as it is super hot here. But i signed up for a series of 5Ks. It's called the Arizona Sunrise Series. I did one last Saturday and have 6 more to go . I don't know if I can call myself a runner because I run and i walk. I cannot for the life of me constantly run yet. Now i don't care what people think or say. I work out for me. I used have a bit of tummy. I told myself, work out and get that in shape and you are buying yourself something nice. Three months after, I bought me diamond ear rings to celebrate . For today, I did my fitnessblender work outs. I might run tomorrow. I am good with food choices three weeks in a month. A week before I get my period, I am eating everything and anything in front of my eyes. I am trying hard to control that . Dalai Mama - 150 dead lifts

I measured today and was down at least an inch in all measurements but my bust. I did an hour of cardio today. I moved around a lot. 20 minutes on the treadmill, 10 minutes on the arc trainer, 1p minutes on the bike, and 20 minutes more on the treadmill. It's been awhile since I've been on the arc trainer. Only one gym location has them. It is no joke! I'm going to do the 30 day squat challenge again this month too. I saw a noticeable difference last month. I might add a plank challenge too.
