I never did, before today. I loved it!
I made a "50 for 50" list of things I wanted to do this year when I turned 50, and one of them was "Finally see 'Citizen Kane'" Lo and behold, an old restored movie palace not far from me showed it this afternoon as part of their Summer Classics series.
The theater is beautiful. For the princely sum of $3.00, I first listened to a guy play selections from My Fair Lady on the "Mighty Wurlitzer" pipe organ; and then finally got to see what all the fuss is about this movie! I enjoyed the whole experience very much. There were a LOT of people there, which I wasn't expecting. I would definitely go by myself again - probably not on a Friday or Saturday night, but for a matinee like today.
So do you/have you ever gone to the movies by yourself?

Yes. But I am single. If I only do things when a friend is available I'd stay home a lot. Since a movie is something you watch it seems to be perfect for solo entertainment.

All the time and I love it. But I'm also one of those people who doesn't mind eating alone at a restaurant, too.

I absolutely love it. I used to go a few times a year before I had DS.
I recently had some down time on a work trip and I went and saw Jungle Book. Such a fantastic movie.

Before I went back to full time work out of the house I went to the movies alone every Wednesday. It was $5 for a ticket and you got popcorn and a drink with your ticket. I love going to movies alone!

When I was single I went all the time. Now I only go alone if it's something I truly must see, like the final Harry Potter movie in 3-D. I like it, because I don't like any noise during a movie. I want to be completely focused on the screen.

I have....I had to go see "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Julie & Julia" by myself because DH wasn't interested....funny thing...when they came out on DVD, he watched them and liked them.
We will sometimes split up at the theater....the last time we did that, I went to see some chick flick and DH and DS went to see "Gravity"

I enjoy going by myself. I don't have to fend off talkers, I don't have to share my popcorn (which I have very precisely mixed chocolate covered peanuts in just so) and I get to watch the movie with no distractions. It is nice to go alone. But like has been mentioned before, I also enjoy eating out alone-give me a good book and someone other than me cooking, serving, and cleaning up my dinner is blissful.

Yes - I'm single and I travel alone for work a lot. It was weird the first time, then I realized it's actually the best / easiest thing to do alone. It's not like you should talking to somebody anyway! And it can be hard to synchronize schedules with friends in other towns, with families, etc. So if I really want to see something, I just go.

I actually prefer to go to the movies alone. It's the perfect solitary pursuit. You shouldn't be talking, so not having someone to talk to is irrelevant. Also, I like kind of weird movies, not the big blockbusters, so finding someone to go with wouldn't always be easy.
Also, I'm retired, so I like to go early in the day - sometimes I even get a private showing.

Yes, too rarely.
Last time I went alone was when the boy was in middle school, I believe.

I did once when I was having my oil changed at a place near a movie theater. DH and I go to a movie every Tuesday and we often see people sitting by themselves.

I want to see Love and Friendship. The only way someone in my family would go with me for that one is if I pulled a Weekend at Bernie's with them.

Oh sure, I have no problem going alone if I can't find someone who wants to see a certain movie.
