I like the DC music. I don't spend money on concerts, and rarely personal music. I don't care about their political beliefs or if they draw on a picture of Trump. I don't think showing that picture while singing Goodbye Earl (a song about killing a man) is a smart choice if their beliefs about Trump include his inciting of violence. Yuk, yuk, yuk, bad men get what they deserve, right? 45 million each?! Dirty 1%ers!!!

Are you saying that you advocate censorship, or are you just reveling in being offended? If it's the former, do you want all musicians censored, or just the ones you disagree with? Is it only musicians you want censored? If it's the latter, then revel on. I'm not for censoring anyone. Far from it. Some things are just immature, and that picture was immature.

I don't really pay attention to lyrics and try to figure out the meanings of songs, LOL. I don't understand how people can listen to music, much less say they *like* it without understanding it. It's easy, you just hum along...

Re: the slideshow at the concert-- It can be your opinion, that it's immature TO YOU, however it isn't for millions of people. They have every right to display that photo as they see fit. Of course they do, and I'd fight for their right to be immature, LOL.So then, what's the problem?

I just can't even see how it's possible. Why would you want to hum along with something you don't understand? I think it's a huge part of your problem though. You're surprised/offended by this, but no one who actually understands their music would be surprised by that at their concert.

I think the very idea that an artists' work should not be a reflection of them - including their beliefs goofy. Sure there are some shallow artists out there who are more interested in commercial success and fear offending their audience - that's their choice. But whatever the medium - art is a reflection of imagination and creativity designed to elicit emotion. Great artists connect with their audience - usually by sharing part of themselves with the audience. Love them or hate them - I would never tell them to shut up.
And for the record, I think celebrities have an over inflated view of their own opinions and am rarely interested in them purely espousing their political views. To me that's different than someone incorporating a political view into their performance or art.
Having said all that, I don't find this particular act compelling - but hey it's a reflection of them, not me.

I'm surprised you said on page 1 "anyone with brains would know that", but then spend the rest of the thread admitting you don't know or understand their lyrics. Wouldn't anyone with brains know and understand an artist's lyrics before buying a concert ticket?

You cannot tell me the things that he says and does are not childish! It's not just different political views than me – he makes fun of people, he calls people names, he eggs people on to commit violence. I am a liberal Democrat. I am diametrically opposed to the views of most republican candidates. But none of them compare to Donald Trump – NONE of them! It's not about his policies or political ideology – it is about the way he expresses them. He says that other people are not "presidential". That is hilarious coming from him. Sometimes when I listen to him, I feel like I'm listening to a 15-year-old give a speech. A really, really bad speech that would probably get him a C- in high school speech class. How can you be so upset at the Dixie chicks – who are merely performers in a band – and not give the same censure to your presidential candidate? I would take you a lot more seriously if you did...

I don't really pay attention to lyrics and try to figure out the meanings of songs, LOL. I don't understand how people can listen to music, much less say they *like* it without understanding it. Because they like the actual melody not the lyrics. Just as people like to listen to classical music. There are many songs that I can sing, but probably not correctly, and that I've never really analyzed, yet loved the song because of the music/melody. Then there are other songs/artist that I have analyzed and do understand. I do understand that.

I don't mind when musicians or celebrities express their political opinions. We all have the same rights. I'm sure they are aware some people won't come to their shows/movies/plays because of it, and I applaud their commitment to risk potential income to express their freedom of speech.
Hey, if celebrities have to be subject to the BS of every uninformed opinion about each little thing they do, the least I can do is stand behind their right to express their own.

Of course I support their RIGHT, I just rarely am interested in hearing their opinion. I think too often the bubble of fame skews their reality and they don't even realize their experience is much narrower than they'd like to believe. I also very rarely choose to boycott their movies/music etc because of their opinion. If you are extremely offensive, it's a whole different situation. Now your ACTIONS, I'll boycott you in a hot minute if you're an abuser, particularly if there is a child involved. I'm disgusted that people give a pass to the Roman Polanski's of the world and want to boycott a celebrity for endorsing a political candidate.

I am another that gets turned off when performers start spouting political stuff from the stage...I get that they do it and it is a free country and all that, but *for me*, I just get really irritated about it. That's just me and a reason I won't support certain bands or artists. I also get that they are artists and much of their work is based on deeply held beliefs. Thats cool...I just don't want to hear it when I have paid good $$$ for a concert.
What I find bothersome is the context in which DT's picture was displayed. We are discussing violence at Trump rallies and how unacceptable it is yet here are the DC showing a (stupid) picture of DT while singing a song about killing a man and how it is justified that he was killed. Does it seem hypocritical to anyone else or am I just being overly sensitive about it?

If you're so worried about people in the spotlight being "immature" then why aren't you expressing the same sentiment about Trump himself? He's completely childish and immature himself.
Watch him mock a reporter who has a disability:
or calling reporters he doesn't like "a sleaze"
If it's a battle of immaturity - Trump wins that hands down already.
My thoughts exactly!!!!!
