Good morning ladies!! Happy Wednesday!! It's been a LONG week and it's only halfway through! LOL I'm looking forward to the weekend, for sure. It's my anniversary weekend AND MIL is taking the kids to her house on Saturday after the girls' soccer game! So we're going out for dinner!! Yesterday was a MUCH better eating day. Kept my calories low and put in my workout. Today I'm going to work out but I don't think I'll do the C25K today...I think I'll do some elliptical or just walking on the treadmill. After my workout this morning, I have an appt for a haircut and then tonight is the meeting for the fundraising for ds's trip to DC next year. I haven't been to one of the meetings yet but I'm thinking of going. The girls have tryouts/evaluations for soccer for next fall so I have to drop them off earlier than normal AND they'll be gone later than normal. So that means I'll make dinner early and dh and the girls will eat when they get home (close to 8pm). I hope you ladies have a great day!! Keep up the hard work!

Happy almost Anniversary, Brandy! Sounds like you have a nice time planned.
It's my 51st birthday today. Oooh, did I just say that? Eeek! Anyway, it's also Subway night. Hubby was going to take me anywhere I wanted or bring home whatever I wanted but I have settled for our Wednesday Subway night. I have an Oreo Cheesecake one the way for my birthday dessert so I guess I will keep the dinner to a minimum. So excited for my Oreo Cheesecake. It is to die for! I know we will celebrate tonight when hubby gets home from work. Only one or two of my daughters will be here though so it makes it a bit sad. I like all of my girls with me!

I feel like my first 5K where I attempted running went pretty well. I hadn't trained for it at all. I ran the first 3/4 of a mile and then alternated between power walking and running. I came in at 50 minutes and I'm pleased. (My Dad also didn't train and he did 42 minutes.) There was lots of beer at my company tent, but I said no. I had a part of a turkey sub and a few chips at my tent and then 2 small pieces of grilled chicken at my Dad's company tent. Unfortunately, I ate a giant brownie on the way home. But, I did double my goal steps on my Garmin Vivofit. My planned rest day is usually Sunday...but I slept an hour later this morning and am going to make today rest day. I'll be back on track for eating today. Have a fantastic day everyone!

Good morning everyone. I'm participating in this thread early today, not on my way to bed like last night. lol Happy almost-anniversary Brandy, and happy birthday Patter. Enjoy that cheesecake. I recently bought an electric pressure cooker and apparently it makes fabulous cheesecake. I haven't caved to that yet, but I know I will and I don't want to know the calories in cheesecake! The only good thing about the pressure cooker cheesecake is that it's smaller than a regular one because it has to be made in a pan that fits inside the cooker. Today we FINALLY have lovely cooler weather, lower humidity. I'm getting ready to take my dog out and I'm going to force myself to walk longer than I have been. Also today dd and I are going over to the community center to renew our memberships. And lunch today is a salad, with some chicken or tuna for protein. I have nothing to do today outside of the house, so I'm planning to do some yard work then some house work. I hate both but you know how that goes... it's not going to do itself. Too bad, I could use a Housework Fairy. lol. I guess that's called a "housekeeper" but we can't afford that. So I'm it. Well and dd, of course. She's having surgery on Monday but between now and then she's on the "domestic engineer" list.

Happy anniversary and happy birthday to everyone! So much to celebrate! littlefish Can you suggest some exercises to target the underarm bra fat? Come on, help a sister out. Lol! DS has an hour long basketball camp this morning. It is only in the mid 50's, so I plan to run during his camp. Then I will come home and do my BBM. I plan on working on finishing the painting project I have drug out forever. However, I adore it! I am also getting my hair cut this afternoon. I am thinking of going for a Kelly Rippa style bob. I have been wearing my naturally curly hair straight more often since my showers are more unpredictable. Not that I don't take them, but sometimes it will be after an evening run and then not until after a morning errand and workout. Slept on curly hair is not good. I am ready for a change. DS has baseball practice tonight so I will probably walk during that. Make it a good one my friends.

Your body needs a day or two of rest and recovery, especially while you are a beginner runner. Cross training is good though! It's my 51st birthday today. Happy birthday! Yesterday was the last group run with the beginning running group I am mentoring. Their "graduation" race (a local 5K) is Saturday and I will run with them. I was going to swim last night but I was really, really hungry so went to dinner with DH instead. Blaze Pizza opened recently and we tried it. (It was OK - nothing I'd go out of my way to buy.) Ate half my pizza and saved the rest for today's lunch. Today I have dog agility. Still feeling the rollercoaster of emotions about Sunday's triathlon. Have a great day!!!

STBC , Dog agility sounds so fun! Still walking at least an hour most nights and the weight is slowly going down. I can't believe I sweat so much just walking in 75 degree weather! My walking app said yesterday I walked 12K steps and gave me a calorie adjustment of 469. Does that sound reasonable? It sounds like more calories than I earned. I weigh 176. Mom got me a Fitbit bracelet for my birthday, and I'm trying to figure out how to start it up and use it. I'd like to see comparisons with the Fitbit and my FitnessPal thingy where I've been using my phone to track my steps/miles. Yes, I know Fitbit has had tracking issues/lawsuit? , but I'm getting so much motivation from the data the tracking provides! I did a good job eating healthy yesterday. The giant container of cashews I bought on impulse last week is almost gone, thank God! I've been tracking them, but they're just so tempting! I want to take them to bed with me. I wonder when it will STOP feeling foreign to buy and eat fruits and veggies? Happy Birthday, Patter!

I have noticed that in the past year or two working on my health that restricting calories is about the only thing that works to help me lose weight. I eat mostly clean and mostly plants but do love a home baked treat. I have tried no dairy, soy and sugar on the Arbonne cleanse and it was fine, 100% true clean eating which is fine as well. But my best weight loss comes from plain old counting calories. I allow 1,550 calories. I try not to eat my exercise calories. I consistently lose around a pound a week. I use MFP and I log all my food at the beginning of the day and then edit it out if I don't actually eat it. That way I have a good picture of my day. Consistency is the key. Who would have thought!
I have stayed hyper focused the last couple days on food and exercise since I know this weekend is going to be loosy goosey and I don't want to derail. I did check the menu for the restaurant we are eating at in Des Moines and I can get a portabella mushroom "burger" and probably still stay in my calories tomorrow. I am excited to try this place since it has had so many good reviews!

Happy birthday Patter and Happy Anniversary week brandy327 ! My FIL got out of the hospital yesterday and my in-laws are due here Friday. He has been given the okay to take the short flight to Florida and a list of restrictions-- getting up and moving every hour, no alcohol, no smoking. But I'm not sure if he is going to feel up to the change from my SIL's house to ours. So we'll see. Great weigh in this morning-- it's been two weeks and I had a two-three pound loss. I have an ancient dial scale, so small changes are a little hard for my middle aged eyes to see, lol. I could replace the scale but it keeps me from obsessing over half pounds! The trend is slowly going down and that's the idea. I have been having a lot of leg fatigue - it actually wakes me up. I walk 2 1/2 miles with my dogs (and not at a super fast rate) plus the rower or bike every other day. I suspect my half-hearted stretching may be the culprit-- for some reason I just hate to stretch so I skimp or skip it. I KNOW! I'm just asking for trouble!! So goal: do the stretches and don't be a jerk about it :-)

My run last night was the best yet. I ran 2 miles without walking, walked 3 minutes than ran 1 more mile. I was very happy. Looking back at it I could have ran the whole 3.10 miles but my brain keeps telling me to stop. It's all a mind issue right now, not a running issue. Saturday I run outside and my goal is to do the whole 3 miles running. Yoga and incline treadmill is tonight's agenda.
DS is on day 3 of his summer job. He is taking it so seriously it's rather adorable. He comes home for lunch everyday "like working people do" he tells me. We have seen huge growth in his maturity just in the few days he has been working. I may have to buy the Summer Camp Director a gift at the end of this summer as a thank you for hiring him

I know how you feel; running has become a mental game with me more than anything else. I just got back from walking over to the running store. My triathlon suit arrived and I got to try it on ...this is getting real for me :-O (I had an alternate "suit" to wear in case this one didn't arrive on time, but we are all wearing this one. I'll take it for a test swim tomorrow. Nothing new on race day!!!)

I suspect my half-hearted stretching may be the culprit-- for some reason I just hate to stretch so I skimp or skip it. Me, too! I think it's because I'm tired and just want to plop down on my ass after I finish walking. Lately I've been stretching in bed after my shower. By then I'm not so physically wobbly feeling.

But last week when my hips were hurting so much I had to take 3 days off from running I did yoga and WOW...the stretching made my hips stop hurting. I am a born-again stretcher (if that is such a thing). I now stretch after every run and I it really does make a difference.

Hi Ladies! I've been slacking on posting. It sounds like everyone is doing well. Happy Birthday, Patter! Hope you enjoy that Oreo Cheesecake. Today was Day 16 for me of BBM. That means yesterday was my first weigh and measure day. I haven't lost a lot of weight -- only 2.5 lbs -- but I've lost 9.25 inches. My bust measurement was the biggest difference, but there were small changes everywhere that added up. DH nodded when I told him and said "Yeah, I wasn't going to be the one to tell you that your boobs are smaller when you're wanting a smaller butt." Men. My boobs were getting obscene. I'm fine with it. Hopefully, the next weigh in will see more of a scale drop. I'm feeling good and noticing slight changes in how my clothes fit. It's coming along. Does anyone use one of those foam roller things for stretching? I've never tried one and am curious. We grill a lot during the summer. It's easier for me to eat healthy when it's hot. I'm not craving the warm-me-up comfort foods. Last night was turkey burgers. Tonight ODS (16) is in charge. He found a recipe for Hawaiian Chicken Skewers or something along those lines that he's excited to make. It involves chicken and pineapple according to his grocery list. He sent me a text early this morning to ask where to find orange marmalade, so I know he was up and doing his grocery shopping.

Does anyone use one of those foam roller things for stretching? I've never tried one and am curious. Yes and I love it! Rolling feels great. We have a few (won a couple in a raffle), some are smooth and some have bumps. It's a matter of personal preference. Look on Pinterest for rolling ideas.

Hey girls! Long day winding down here. Today I did some "net-workoutting". I delivered a flash drive with some competition photos to a local box that had expressed interest in them. I stuck around to do a workout and really had an awesome time. Left them with my contact information and my photography IG name (a few of them already follow me) and hopefully they'll contact me down the road to do some photography for them. Here's the thing though. I'm such an introvert. This is SO far out of my comfort zone. I'm fine with dropping in at boxes where I don't know anyone (though I did end up knowing one person there today), because CrossFit is a lot like Catholic church to me--doesn't matter where you are, the principles and the basics are the same. But showing up to workout *and* promote myself? Totally different ballgame. Everyone was really nice, got in a great workout, and they loved the photos, so it was a win all around. End of the year lunch potluck = s'mores pie and Oreo truffles = too much sugar and high heart rate so....no more of those for me. Certain sweets will ramp up my heart rate--it isn't bad, just uncomfortable and triggers anxiety. Working out always helps. I already have leftover salad from the potluck in my fridge at school, and I'll bring some chicken to go with it for my last day of school lunch. Patter, Happy Birthday! TankTop, you can't necessarily "spot tone" specific areas, but you can build up the muscles in that area--things like lat pull downs, pull ups, overhead presses, etc. will all help.

I was good today but I shouldn't have done what I did. I ran 2.35 miles in 101 degrees. Let's just file that under "WTF was I thinking?"
I am running second 5K of the year this Sunday. Let's hope I can do it under 40 minutes.

Well the scale was kind to me and I lost another pound. I also went for a decent walk. I have bad leg pain due to a drug I have to take, but I am glad I went. Now I am sitting in an air conditioned room and am happy as a clam. I am very happy in fact.
The low carb diet is pretty easy to follow seeing how both of us are eating this way. It doesn't get easier than this. I did have an asthma attack on the walk and it was pretty painful getting air in and out, but it cleared and then I did it. I want the good strength I used to have in my legs.
Must remember to take things slowly at first. I didn't get to be this size over night. I won't lose it over night either. Still I am feeling better already. Just an overall feeling of being a bit more healthy. Crazy maybe but true.
