The school does not provide insurance since it a private Christian school. Also, my physical is not available until August since it is once a year. For the past seven years, we have been able to turn our forms in on our first day back at work. Therefore, most of us are not able to have a physical covered this early. This is why she hounded this doctor to see us since everyone was concerned about the cost. I did not see him. To me, this is being deceitful which does not equate to being a Christain? I guess integrity is something I honor and her email screams anything but. Would last years physical work, since it won't be a year old? |

Ok, this may be a stupid question, but why can't the pediatrician just bill the insurance as a physical? Because a majority of the women are not due to have a physical until August. Therefore, insurance will reject the physical billing code and charge the full amount to the patient. you might want to check with your doc/insurance. ours has the once a year physical too, but they go by calendar year. so it doesn't have to be exactly or more than 1 year since you had your last one, it just has to be a different calendar year. for example I had my last physical last year in august, I am having this year's done today, and it is covered. |

Therefore, insurance will reject the physical billing code and charge the full amount to the patient. Are you sure about this? In my experience, it is one physical per calendar year, so it would be covered. I would check with my own insurance company first. |

I was a regular before and I lost my password. So I started over.
Anyway, I work in a private Christian school too. We are required to have health forms from our Doctor too. We operate under a religious exempt license, not under a school permit, so our licensure also has these requirements.
We have considered hiring someone to do physicals for us. It has not worked for a variety of reasons.
My concerns would be whether a doctor hired like this can do everything required for the forms. We have to have a TB screen - a risk assessment isn't sufficient - and that requires two visits, so this wouldn't work for us. Also, once a year we are audited by the health department. They check our forms and look at the stamps from the doctors. If they see an irregularity they may flag it and if we fail our audit we get shut down. All that is aside from the insurance fraud issue and that is significant as well.
All that is to say that I understand where the idea comes from but I would be concerned about the ethics and logistics of doing this.
My health insurance doesn't cover a work physical and my workplace doesn't cover it. To do so is not standard procedure and is not obligated by law unless the visit is mandated to a provider of the employer's choice. Minute clinic can't sign our specific form as it requires the stamp of an MD and minute clinic uses PAs or NPs, which is fine but they can't sign our specific form. I pay $79 for my work physical at my doctor's walk in clinic; they barely touch me so I am paying for a signature and a TB screen.
I will add that I find the form intrusive but it is not the school's policy. It is a requirement of the license. We too do not receive insurance as none of us works an eligible number of hours and we are below the size threshold to be required to do so. Very few employees of private schools here qualify for medical coverage as most of us are part time.

It sounds like insurance fraud to me. I would try to see my own doctor or go to urgent care. And most insurances have a once a year no copay physical. I agree it sounds like fraud to me too. I know my insurance the physical is once in 12 months. I have often had to pay for a second physical for my daughter for camp or whatever because the first one has been less than a year and more than 6 months. That said. I think they can do them at the minute clinic... the director should be offering to pay for that. |

The school I work at requires a physical form stating we are able to work for our state license every year. The director dropped the ball and forgot to tell us it was needed by July which is a change from the usual end of August deadline. So she hounded a previous client who is a pediatrician to conduct physicals and fill out our forms. He is going to see staff on his day off at his office and bill our insurance for the visit as an allergy, headache, etc. to receive payment. A co-payment would be due at time of service. My director arranged this and sent the email to the staff. I can't believe he is agreeing to this but maybe I am overthinking this. wont insurance companies ask why a grown woman is seeing a pediatrician? And one that they have never seen before? It also seems like it would violate code of ethics? It seems more like both a CYA move by the director and possibly a potential issue. It's supposed to be a wellness visit and it will be coded as an allergy, headache visit? Not right.
