To sweet for me. Tastes like liquefied cake frosting.

I love boba tea. Especially with lychee jelly instead of tapioca. I always get it half lychee, half boba.

No I have had bubble coffee. Same concept. It was quite delicious. I had it in S. Korea. It was yummy.

In southern california it has been around a long time and is known as boba. I first tried it about 13/14 years ago. The first time I sucked into the giant straw I did almost choke on one of the boba balls. After that I was very careful. I then moved farther inland and there were not many in this area, they are now showing up in different areas around here. Like mentioned, not all boba is the same. Some taste great, while others have no flavor at all! If I see a place, I definitely get one, love it in teas, coffees and smoothies

Don't love it. I get a Thai iced tea, hold the boba. What I don't like is that they give me the giant straw, even with no boba. I find it hard to sip slowly with the super thick straw. Both my kids love the boba.

Pretty common here...I like it but I only get the coconut milk tea with lychee bursts...my ds gets some fruity ones and I don't care for it!

I love them, but nowadays if I merely look at junk food I gain 5 lbs, so I had to stop drinking them. I miss them. Almond milk tea was my favorite!

I've never had it. My niece loves it and gets it all the time at the mall. It's not a cheap treat.

So...I tried one, and, well, I'm not sure what to think, lol.
This certainly didn't look much like the ones I saw online. This was like a slushy. I got watermelon, and it tasted like fresh cut watermelon, not overly sweet at all, so I'd say it was refreshing. I'm really missing the point of the tapioca pearls. Are they just to give some texture?
I think I was expecting a creamy drink, and I think I read upthread there's blended (which I think mine was) and shaken? Maybe this isn't a "real" bubble tea.
Next time I go down to Chinatown I'd look for another place to give it another try.
Thanks!

The tapioca balls are typically sucked up through the big straw you are given. You just chew them up.
Edited to add: Yes, I think the tapioca balls are there for the texture.

The teas are creamy: anything with tea in the name is going to be creamy.

I had it once, I don't mind the fruity balls on frozen yogurt, but, even though I like tapioca, I don't like the tapioca balls. I call them "booger balls" because they are too chewy.

I cannot do it. The texture makes me gag just thinking about it. But I can't eat jello either.

Really, every shop does it differently. Some places if you order watermelon it will be creamy, some slushy. Sometimes it is icy, sometimes only milky, sometimes they put whole ice cubes in it. . Some places put tea in the fruit flavored, some don't. I always ask a lot of questions before I order, because I like it a particular way-no tea, creamy, with blended ice.
It is an experience, for sure!!
I lived in Taiwan for 4 years and I miss all of the amazing fresh fruit drinks they had there. It was truly mind-boggling how many delicious and different drinks and snacks you could buy on the streets. They are the masters!! You could eat and drink something new everyday for the rest of your life....sigh.
ETA-Bravo to you for trying something new!

I really don't care for tapioca. So maybe that's why I don't like boba tea. But I've tried it twice, from two different places.
Gross is about all I can say. Both beverages tasted like liquefied sugar. Yuk, way too sweet. Then you suck up the tapioca. Not to be gross but yeah that was like trying to eat flavoured phlegm.
Not for me.lol Hope if you try another you'll find one that you like. :-)

I love Boba drinks! There are tons of bobs places near me. My favorite is Taro and DH likes melon. All boba places are not created equal. Some are too sweet, some too icy. We have our favorite spots.

Back in the late 90's a family friend opened up a boba shop in Alhambra, Ca because he didn't know if a place called Starbucks would be a good investment. Most of the boba shops that popped up then would serve popcorn chicken too. They served over 40+ flavors of boba drinks. I don't drink them anymore because they're usually flavorless and rubbery. Last one I threw away. I order Thai iced tea-hold the boba now.

Next time I go down to Chinatown I'd look for another place to give it another try. Thanks! I adore bubble tea! Also called pearl tea. I have a friend who is Taiwanese who informed me they invented the idea. My hubby and I often go to a Taiwanese place and just get bubble tea, no actually food! The drinks vary a lot...if you want milky they usually have it. Generally, you order the type of tea (green or red...note red is black tea to us) and whether you want red milk tea or just red tea, then a flavour, I like coconut or mango. And last if you want tapioca and/or jelly. I like to get tapioca pearls and mango jelly (jello) yum, yum. I have made these at home, and it isn't hard but it is a lot of steps and the pearls don't last long, you basically have to eat them that day. Save

I tried it once, don't need to do it again, basically a texture issue. But I can see how it might grow on me.

I live near an asian neighborhood so boba is easy to get. I've had it as a slushy and a fruit flavor like strawberry. I annoy the boba people because I skip the boba, I just want the slushy. They always look at me like I'm nuts.
