At both Disney and Universal, the first few days are the most expensive. Once you get past a certain point (I think either 3 or 4 days) the cost per day for a ticket decreases significantly. If you are going to Disney, and just want to spend a day at Universal, you are going to pay through the nose for it.

We first priced it ourselves and then through a Disney/Universal agent because I didn't believe it and it's $749.72 (with tax) for four 2 day park to park tickets. $1028 with one night at Loew's and that is apparently with a small discount they are offering on the hotel. For only one hotel night, it's one third of what we're paying to go to Disney for 7 days, staying at a moderate on property with dining plan.

I just took a look at their site, because we went a year and half ago (just after Easter in 2013). I didn't remember it being so much money and it looks like it's gone up quite a bit. We got a buy 2 days get one free deal. It's super expensive for one day, but The price drops dramatically with more days. I wouldn't pay more for the express pass. Just use the single rider line. I also wouldn't stay at their property for early access. Seems way too overpriced.
My kids love Universal. They are young adults now, but preferred it even at 10. They found the rides at Disney too mild.

I didn't catch that you said 1 night was $1030. Is that one standard room? Just playing around, I put in the date of one of the busiest nights in the year, and the average price for the most expensive Universal hotel was $415/night. Are you doing club level or one of the suites?

I was at Universal last month. DD and her boyfriend had the 2 day park hopper passes. My boyfriend and I had the 1 day park hopper passes. My Mom is about an hour away (so no lodging costs.) it was still super expensive just for tickets, parking, food, etc.
It was DD and my second time at Universal. We love it. Both boyfriends had a great time too. I am not a Harry Potter fan but DBF is and he was very impressed with the train and was glad we got the park hopper passes.

No, the $1028 includes the tickets, that's the total price for one hotel night and 2 days of tickets.

That makes more sense. We ended up doing 4 days last time because the incremental cost for additional days was so low. After you get past day 2, the ticket price gets reasonable. We also stayed off-site, but we went at a time when we didn't really need the express pass and made extensive use of the single rider lines.

I agree that both Disney and Universal stick it to you for one or two days. Disney Hopper or Universal Park-to-Park Comparison from their respective websites (prices are listed per day, per person over 10): 1 Day: Disney $159, Universal $136 2 Day: Disney $124, Universal $88 3 Day: Disney $111.34, Universal $62 4 Day: Disney $88.50 Universal $49 It's not too surprising that Universal needs to drop their prices faster for the longer stays - with only 2 parks, I think a 4 day Universal Stay is pretty rare, while many will do a 4 day Disney stay with 4 parks to choose from. Just comfort yourself with the thought that you'd be over $1,200 just for tix for 2 days at Disney, and you wouldn't even have a hotel to stay in - it makes $1,028 seem cheap

How are you counting the PH on that Disney ticket? Those prices look too high for me. The park hopper is $60 over the whole ticket, whether it is 2 days or 10 days. So, you could calculate like the first day is $159, but the rest of the sequence is $94, $91.34, $73.50 - more expensive, but not quite as bad.

My employer sent out a perks email a month or so ago, and tickets were reasonable. DH found a cheap flight to Jacksonville, a super cheap rental car, and a hotel room mostly on credit card points, and thus was born an idea: We're yanking my Harry Potter-obsessed girls out of school a half day early before their 4-day long weekend for Rosh Hashanna (we're not Jewish, but the district gets two days off) and surprising them with a trip to Universal. We're going to pick them up at lunch time (with them, hopefully, completely unaware), and hand them Platform 9 3/4 tickets. I fully expect them to cry, scream, and generally lose their minds. Cameras will be filming.

I should have prorated the hopper part over the days - I'll try and fix. But since I'm on my phone.... We'll have to keep our fingers crossed!
