If you were having a "conversation" and someone told you "I don't know who filled your head full of drivel" would you be offended?
Would it change your answer if you were actually correct in your point?

From the question, I was going to say not offended, as my head could be considered 'full of drivel.' Since I read an inordinate amount, I have a considerable amount of obscure, useless knowledge.
However, I would be offended if my opinions were considered brainwashed drivel.

Yes and no. It's a rare individual who is not offended when made to look like a fool. Even if someone was given erroneous information, it's typically much more effective to correct their misconceptions in a way where they are not made to feel foolish.

Is it political? If it is, walk away.

Probably a little and then I would blow it off.

Since drivel means nonsense and the statement is followed by an exclamation point, then it seems to me that it's meant to be a put down.

If it is a fact that can be proven, prove it to them. If you can't, life is too short.

Ya...that would probably piss me off. It's a pretty straight forward dismissal.

I would be offended. Sounds like a put-down to me. They don't agree with what you said so they're dismissing it.

I would not be pleased. I don't think you can take that comment as a positive.

Offensive isn't really the right word. Rude and dismissive, yes.
Not useful, helpful, or particularly kind. Doesn't promote resolution of a business disagreement, that's for sure.

a statement like that would not cause me to change my point. it would probably strengthen my resolve.

In a lively argument with someone you know, it could be a funny comeback. In a business situation, it is condescending at best.

Ya...that would probably piss me off. It's a pretty straight forward dismissal. I"m pretty sure this is where I'd land. But I'd need more context to be sure. I can't think of many instances where 'drivel' is used in anything other than a dismissive or condescending kind of way.

I'd find it offensive whether I was right or wrong. There is no need to say that to another person.

I would probably ask them if they know how to spell and define the word, but I'm a bitch like that.

I'm less bothered by "drivel" than I am by the implication that I'm not smart enough to rub 2 brain cells together and form my own opinion. NO ONE FILLS MY HEAD BUT ME! freebird, I'm going to assume you're a woman, and when directed to a woman, I find this comment particularly offensive. I'm a feminist like that.

That's the bit that bothered me too, the "filling your head" bit. The whole thing sounds like someone being condescending (unless somehow the context was totally different, like joking between equals). But the sort of scenario I imagine when I hear this is an old man who thinks himself superior talking down to a younger woman who has different opinions. But even if it wasn't like that, yes, I'd be pissed off.

Well, it certainly sounds like an insult to me. If someone is spouting off completely absolutely incorrect facts, there are certainly nicer ways to point that out. And if the person is voicing opinions as opposed to actual concrete facts, then I see it as even more of an insult. Plus, as others have pointed out, the "filling your head" bit sounds like something I would say about a school child, not an adult. So if this was said to an adult, it's one more layer of insulting in my book. And no, even if the person saying was correct (and only if this had to do with concrete facts), it does not make it any better. To me that's just saying "If I'm smarter or better informed than someone, then it's okay for me to insult and belittle them." and that is absolutely not okay to me. SaveSave

Yep, I'd be pissed. Probably more about the suggestion that I let anyone fill my head than the drivel comment, which by itself is negative. Who says something for like that to another adult? Ugh.

Kind of an old fashioned saying but it is pretty condescending. I would be offended but how offended depends on who it was saying it lol

I would definitely be offended and pissed off if someone said that to me, especially if I was right.
If it turned out that my head was in fact full of drivel and I was wrong, I would still be offended at the rudeness of the comment, as well as embarrassed that I was wrong.
