We changed to Allstate in January. In the past, whatever company we used automatically sent the new cards upon renewal or shortly before the old card expired. In May my husband went to get inspection and he had no proof of insurance, the card we had had ended after 3 months. They mailed us new cards. Today, I had to take my car in, and bingo--same thing. Card expired at end of June. I went online and it would not let me print my new card "printing is not allowed in all states"
Anyway, I am VERY annoyed with Allstate. #1. WHY won't you write the policy for 12 months? (good drivers, no tickets or accidents) #2. Why is it my job to remember to ask for new cards every 6 months? When it renew, why not an automatic "send me a new card" set up?
In the past we have had Amica, Liberty and Geico and I didn't have this trouble/"bookkeeping" problem.
How does your company handle things?

We use State Farm and we get new cards every three months in the mail. This. They send the cards with your renewal, before you even pay.

We can either have an app to show our insurance from our phone or we print our own cards. I have not had any sent to me in years.

I have Allstate and every six months, about a month before my policy expires, I get a renewal notice with cards in the mail. It's been this way for the 29 years we've used them. Not sure why you're having problems. You should call your agent.

Allstate sends ours to us. I had allstate for a gazillion years-on autopay. Every six months they sent me a 'renewal' and new cards. I never had to ask for them. I was in an accident one time and had an old card but the police man took it anyway saying that as long as the number hadn't changed, I was okay. I have State Farm now and so far they have done the same thing.

We have met life and we can print and reprint our current cards to our hearts delight. We do however have to remember to do it every 6 months. We ALSO have to reapply every 6 months for the good student discount even thought they only use the end of the past years grades??? Like If I am using the SAME proof in 6 months why do I have to reapply?? I could see if we had to provide current grades but we do not, until end of next school year which will be a year later, you know annually.

Told her I never had to watch the calendar to know when I needed cards and I was mightily angry that two times in the recent months I have had to go through this. Perhaps it is how this agent has written things up.

why can't you just log on and down load a copy? ours still sends us cards but I could just as easily download copies. I was even able to get card for the next 6 months so I would already have them.

Progressive sends us an email letting us know our new cards were available to print. We can also show our proof on our phones now. I prefer a hard copy and will print them out when we get that email.

we use State Farm, and they mail the cards automatically right after the payment clears (we pay ours every 6 months).
eta: or maybe the new cards come with the bill, beforehand?? I'm not sure. Either way, we always have the cards well in advance of the previous one expiring.

1) Some insurance companies only offer semi-annual policies. It gives the company the ability to review the policy twice a year. They start charging for any at fault claims ASAP and/or set up a policy non-renewal, if the situation calls for that. When a policy renews once a year, it may take 10-11 months to start charging for an at fault loss if you have a claim shortly after the policy renews.
2) The company I work for mails a renewal packet 35 days before the current policy period expires. Your invoice, policy declarations and insurance cards are in the packet. My company makes us crazy by putting the cards on page 7-8 of the packet. Clients always miss them in the mess of papers. We want to see it changed to letter, cards, invoice, declarations and required stuffers. I'd call your agent and see if you somehow got signed up for electronic delivery of documents and they are being sent to an incorrect email or something.

Before going to get car inspected or renew tabs, we check the folder in glove compartment to be sure all needed documents are in it and they are current.

Ditto here too - also USAA I put a recurring task in my task manager app to print new cards a week before the renewal dates. That way I always know I have the current one in the cars. We can show the app, but DH prefers to have the paper proof of insurance.

is a downloaded card on your phone acceptable in your state? it is in missouri
i download the new cards once a year when they renew
I am also able to print them out to keep in the car (but i like having them in the phone as well)
Shelter, Geico, and Progressive have all had these options

Usaa sends us new cars every 6 months along with our policy renewal. ^^^ Dang, I knew USAA was some good coverage, but to actually send you new CARS every 6 months that you have your insurance with them?? No wonder so many people will stay with them for life!! (LOL!! )

We've had Allstate for 17 years. I've always gotten my cards in the mail, but these days I just use the app and always have a current card to show that way. Those are accepted in my state.

We have USAA. When we had our paperwork mailed to us, the cards were included. Now that all of our paperwork is electronic, they send an email with the link to print off our cards.

We've had Allstate for over 20 years, and within the last year they've stopped mailing cards. It took quite some time for me to realize this. I've set a reminder on my phone for me to print out the ID cards for each of our cars. I have the app, too, but I don't think dh and dd do, at least not at this point.
I'd rather just have the cards mailed like they used to be.
