I'm reading this, prone, in bed. We have it all wrong. We should make bat wings a new trend, love calling them kimono arms! If stretching earlobes to the size of mason jar lids is cool...who knows? *gar I've just set-up my Aero Pilates Reformer again as I recover from a broken foot. My arms will definitely benefit! I had put it away because I enjoyed treadmill walking more. Have you thought about swimming? That's good for arms too. It should be an obvious choice for me, but it's not my thing.

I will not buy any more home exercise equipment although the Reformer does look good. I hope you get great results! Swimming - yes, I am a decent swimmer and did swim a lot but it's the time and pfaff factor - drive 20 to pool, change, swim, change, deal with hair, drive home versus do exercises in front room while watching whatever on tv

You just summed up my feelings about swimming. I've been driving to pools for other people for too long, doing it a third time a day so I can get in cold water is not appealing!
I'll be happier when I get beyond learning curve of this machine. There's nothing contemplative about it at the moment, and I can't be distracted by tv.

I'm always suggesting fitness blender when someone asks about starting out with fitness. I think they are fantastic and have tons of programs from beginner to experienced, and they have videos of various lengths (from 5 min to 90+ min.). I really think there is something there for everyone, and I think Kelly and Daniel are awesome and really believe in health and physical strength rather than just 'getting skinny'. Here are some upper body videos for toning/strength training.

I hear people talk about "lifting heavy" but am not sure exactly what that means. Obviously it means lifting with heavy weights, but how do you know what you should be lifting? From what I understand it should be a weight heavy enough that you can just manage 10-12 repetitions. If you can easily do more its not heavy enough. I would argue that 'lifting heavy' should be less than 10 reps, IMO 8 would be max. My program is 5 sets of 5 reps, and by the 5th rep you should be as close to failure as possible if not actually failing, otherwise you need more weight.

I have flabby arms/triceps - not terribly fat really, I don't think (I'm 140 pounds/5"6') but they have zero tone and I hate the feeling of them swinging...ughhh, I can barely even type that! I have that horrible indent where the muscle seems to hang down, away from the bone. My eldest DD is getting married next spring and I'm thinking about my outfit and would like to be able to consider sleeveless dresses which I'm not particularly comfortable with really at the moment although I have worn sleeveless things in this lovely heat we're having. So, without going to a gym (because I know I won't keep that up) can I make a significant difference to the tone of my arms myself at home? How much exercise would I have to do with hand weights, press-ups etc to see a difference. I'm not aiming to have super-toned arms, just toned enough to look reasonable. Is it do-able? I'm 54 if that makes a difference. It took me to the bottom of page 1 but I finally got "Bingo Arms". Too funny!!! I call it armflap.
I'm very interested in this thread. I catch sight of mine in my peripheral vision and it makes me queasy every time lol.
