I think a skin reaction to strawberries isn't necessarily an allergy. Also, I think a mouth reaction to pineapple can be normal. I get it and often stay away because the acid hurts my mouth. You could try buying low acid pineapples and tell dd to limit his intake.
The banana reaction you described sounds like a real allergy. My DH became allergic to bananas in his early 30s and realized that he was allergic to the related foods in his late 30s. Banana, kiwi, avocado and latex share a common protein and DH is allergic. At least he now knew why he couldn't eat Mexican or Japanese food (and now he can, he just avoids avocado!).
In his 49s, DH developed an allergy to the toxins on quinoa. He had it unrinsed in a restaurant and now he's fully allergic. Gross gastric reaction. Blech. Too bad, because we used to eat it once or twice a week. and he's a vegetarian and so many veggie burgers are made with quinoa.
Paige.

I developed a weird allergy/sensitivity/reaction to salmon two years ago. I used to eat it at least once a week, sometimes more. I liked it raw, smoked, baked, any way. Then once night I got horrible pains that felt like gas but weren't. With trial and error, I figured out it was salmon. If I have a seafood dish with even a little bit of salmon, I feel it. This is really timely, because I had those same horrible pains last night. All I had yesterday was fried eggs for breakfast, a baked sweet potato for lunch, and a Stouffer's lasagna for dinner. All things I eat regularly. Now I'm afraid to eat anything. The fat in salmon can cause this. My husband can not eat reheated salmon because of this. (Or leftover cooked salmon) DH gets that way after sweet potato but he still eats it. Small amounts are ok.

I'm pretty sure younger DD has developed a shellfish allergy at the age of 13 - she got itchy and was very ill after eating a small amount of lobster that the rest of us are without incident. We're in vacation in Maine, but no more lobster for her. Fortunately she doesn't really care for seafood anyway!

My friend gets nasty gas when she eats bananas. She takes GasX with them to counteract it, because she loves bananas. I thought it was gas and had eaten Tums but it didn't do anything. The only thing that solved the pain was time. And like an idiot I went and ate them two or three times again later, convinced it was a one time thing, or that I would try to eat more tums or have something else to eat with it so it wasn't on an empty stomach or other convoluted theories of trying to eat the damned banana. Have stayed away from them now though it makes me sad. Tums are for acid, gas X is for gas. If it's gas pain tums won't help.

My dh has a shellfish allergy, they always ask him if he has been diagnosed and want to argue (he has been). But iodine is a problem for him ,so just a heads up if she ever needs contrast for a CT scan or MRI.

It may not only be an allergy to the fruit but an oral allergy. It occurs when you consume a fruit (usually one without a skin) during certain times of the year when certain environmental allergens are out and about. The two illicit a response in your system, thus the reaction.
Either get tested or wait for another season to try the foods again.
Both of my kids have it and I had it as a teenager. I outgrew it. The bananas wouldn't be subjected to that but my son developed an allergy when he was about 10. He stayed away from them and ate one a couple months ago and didn't have a reaction.

I was eating canteloupe for lunch evary dsy one summer and began to have hives if I ate them. I stayed away for about 3 years, and then began to eat the in small amounts. I can eat them now, but I don't eat them on in large amounts.

I developed the same banana intolerance when pregnant with my first. It was the only food that would actually make me vomit versus feeling queasy. I had an aversion to anything raw, so no raw fruits or veggies. As soon as I gave birth I ate a sandwich and it was amazing, just one of those triangle hospital sandwiches, but it had been so long!
After having my second I got sick from avocado, same stabbing pain and kiwi. I decided it was a latex issue and every time I get the stabbing pain it's a latex related fruit. It's getting so I can't even eat celery.
My only solution is to not eat these foods which is a shame because I love bananas, avocado and kiwi.
