Scary! I hope she has a speedy recovery. My Dad had a similar issue....he said he didn't realize how crappy he felt BEFORE the procedure until he felt much better after.

Im glad she's ok... its crazy scary how "ok" you can be and not be ok. All my life, through all my pregnancies, through breaking my ankle and having to have surgery etc.. I had doctors tell me I had a heart murmur but brush it off as nothing to worry with. no one ever cared.
I at one point wound up with a new doctor who asked if I had ever had it looked at, I told him no that everyone had always brushed it off and he said "well lets take a look at it and be sure" , turns out it sounded a bit 'off' to him. so he sent me for an EKG,which lead to an Echo which lead to a TEE which lead to an heart cath for them to tell me I had 4 things wrong with my heart and would be looking at aortic replacement in 12-15 years..
a year later I have to go get a recheck on stuff with the cardiologist, which leads to an EKG a Echo and another heart cath which was on a friday. The following monday was memorial day and everything closed, I got a call the next morning at 8:10 am from the cardiologist office with an appointment to see a surgeon. When I went to see the surgeon he told me that if I didnt have the surgery I wouldnt see the end of the year(2006),mind you at this point it was already June.. also I felt fine, a bit over weight and would become winded if I ran but I thought that was the weight(and maybe it was) but I had NO symptoms. no high blood pressure. no racing pulse. nothing. Had that doctor not thought it sounded "off", had I blown off going to that 1 year check up.. I wouldn't be here.
so yeah you cant ignore stuff, even if its brushed off

The heart is one thing you should never take for granted (in all aspects). I'm so glad your mom followed her instincts and this was caught. I hope and prayer for continued recovery and health.
My dad ignored the signs because he was fit (exercised daily, great cholesterol, no high blood pressure, no family history of heart problems and in his early 50's.
We were all shocked when we got the call that he'd had a heart attack while working in his garden and was going in for immediate triple bypass surgery. He never took his health for granted again.

I am praying that your Mom will make a full recovery from her heart issues!!!
I did the same thing back in January. I have asthma and being short of breath is nothing new. However in January, it became difficult to draw a deep breath and I felt like I was smothering. It went on for almost a week. I had a dr's apt and was waiting for that. I went and when my Dr. asked how my asthma was doing, I mentioned the shortness of breath and smothering. She sent me for xrays. The xrays showed up fluid in my lungs. The Dr. took some blood and sent me home with some Rx. I got a call a couple hours later from the dr's office. I was told to go straight to the ER as my blood work showed positive for a blood clot.
I went to the ER and they did a CT scan. They did not find a blood clot in my lungs but I did have pneumonia. Thankfully, the blood clot was probably small and dissolved on it's own.
My Dr. was still concerned and sent me for a echocardiogram. It came back with a low ejection fracture. She then sent me to a cardiologist. He did a cardiac cath and found they my heart's ejection fracture was between 15 and 20%. I was very sick and didn't know it. I went home with an external heart difibrilator that I wore 24/7 for 8 weeks. I was told that my heart was so bad that it could stop at any time.
I was put on some very strong heart meds and had another echocardiogram 2 months later. Thankfully, my heart was stronger and the ejection fracture was up to 40%, which is still low.
I will listen to my body from now on. I almost waited to late and would have left my family without a wife, mom and mamaw.

That happened to my mom. She went to a scheduled appointment to her eye doctor who noticed problems with her capillaries. They got her a same day appointment with her cardiologist who put her on a helicopter to get her into surgery. One carotid artery was 100% blocked, and they couldn't operate on it because she'd likely stroke out. But they opened the other one which was only 95% blocked and took out what looked like a piece of spaghetti. And she recovered. And that was something like 20 years ago! Wishing your mom a quick and easy recovery!
