I would go so far as to say I never answer my phone. I freaking hate talking on the phone and wish we could all agree, as a society, to disable that feature and just text each other as God clearly intended.

Nope, I have a phone for my convenience, not for other peoples'. And IMO anyone who makes a non-emergency call before 9 AM or after 9 PM is the rude one. 1000 times over!!!

No. I will not be owned by a telephone. I answer when and if I want to talk. Otherwise, no. My family and friends know this. If it's an emergency, they will immediately call back. I know that two calls in a row mean I need to see what's going on. What if you were up, but in the shower? Or in the bathroom, or on a morning walk, or in the middle of a serious conversation with your SO? Family member has no idea what they are interrupting. This. 150%. We also have the if you call twice right in a row, then I'll know it's an emergency thing. This also. I'm not at anyone's beck and call. And anyone who calls that early on my day off would is rude and would be told so.

Yes, and no.
In your case, I would have been unhappy with someone calling for a non-emergency at 7 am. That's just rude unless they KNOW that you are OK with phone calls at that time. I would have answered but I probably would have let them know that it was too early for just chatting.
I do answer the home phone when it rings, but we have a call screening device that won't let automated or sales calls through. So if it does the partial ring AND then rings fully I will answer. We don't have caller ID on our home phone so if it rings through I pick up. I've gotten a lot of the late night, middle of the night, early morning phone calls that mean it's an emergency. And I am sort of the go-to person if someone ends up in an ambulance on the way to the hospital because we live 5 minutes from the hospital and I'm the medical POA for my mother, as my husband was for his mother. Plus, my brother has had some pretty serious health issues (pulmonary embolism, autoimmune kidney disease, on dialysis, etc.) and I am also his go-to person. But we live close enough that it makes sense for us to get the calls.
On my cell phone or classroom phone I will answer even if I don't know the number or it isn't in my contacts - once it was the ER calling to say my dad was there. It was not a number that I would have recognized. That was the day he died. In cases like that I do not want to have to listen to a message and maybe try to call back. And in some cases, even if I have a number for someone in my contacts, they may be using a different phone or it may be someone else calling on their behalf.

I was at a work conference for 7 hours this spring. Most people had their phones out on the table and used them on occasion. There were 18 of us at the conference. I checked mine at lunch and that was it. It was in my purse on vibrate. At the end of the day, my boss said he noticed I was the only one not on my phone at all and he was impressed. He said he's never seen me on it at work. To be fair, I work four hours a day twice a week at the office. We weren't allowed to even have them out when I worked as a teacher, so it isn't hard for me to turn the thing on vibrate. I just feel like if I am working, I should be working. Thankfully my family is all the same way so we don't text each other when we are at work or in a class.

No. I don't always answer the doorbell/door knock, either.

Nope unless it's family. If it's super late or super early, it has to be an emergency so I will answer.

Nope. I'm the boss of my phone, not the other way around.
Your early morning caller was beyond rude with the repeat calls and 'what if' lecture. That kind of behavior usually ensures that I will let that person's calls go to voicemail every single time, and (barring emergency) call back when I damned well feel like it, and not one minute before.
