I love my DH! He works hard,is a loving father and husband, and has overcome a difficult upbringing. Somehow he is never sure if the dishwasher is clean or dirty. Even when he opens the door and looks in, he doesn't see the grimy food remains that are slopped on the floor of the dishwasher or still shmeared on the plates. I don't even rinse the dishes before I put them in the dishwasher. (Magnets don't stick to the outside, so a "clean/dirty" magnet wouldn't work.) When ours has dirty stuff in, we keep the door slightly open. We shut the door to run the cycle, and it stays shut. First person to open the door, empties the washer and puts everything away. If we need to leave the house without emptying it, the door gets left open all the way, right to the floor. That way everything dries properly and it's a reminder to empty it when we get back. It works for us! But we suffer the same problem in our house. When DH can't find something after I've told him where it is, and I have to come and move the mayonnaise or lift a piece of paper, I say "you just did a man search, didn't you?"
